I want an OT because I think that the talent level is higher there than at QB and LT is one of our key positions of need. That's not to say that QB isn't or couldn't be the pick, I am just saying that for me, I haven't seen the QB tape that makes me look at one of them and say "that's our future." If we had the 2nd and 3rd round picks to pursue some of our other needs, I'd be more open to QB at 6, buy we don't have those picks. I will say it really bothers me that we brought in Campen to evaluate our line talent but Rhule has the ultimate say in who starts. Why hire these guys if you aren't going to listen to them.

You insulted yourself. A QB is the engine, the oline is the oil. If you put garbage oil in a high end engine you have a blown engine. I get it, you want a QB this year. I don't see more than an average QB. I do see the opportunity to acquire elite protection for that engine that isn't always available.

There is a such thing as a franchise LT. You just don't hear about them because they aren't throwing for 400 yards and 3 TDs a game. If they're doing their job, you rarely hear their name at all. You have to protect your QB, period. Good LTs rarely become available in their prime for a reason. This year is a bit challenging for this team in the draft. With no day 2 picks, there's no chance to get a QB that may slide into round 2. So we can either take a QB, and wait 3 years for him to develop unless he's just horrid like Rosen, or we get a LT that can keep our QB (whoever that may be) on his feet. We had a franchise QB, we didn't protect him and he was physically beaten and battered trying to carry the team because we couldn't block for him and now he's virtually out of the NFL. This year's QB crop has flaws, as does every class. Is there one of those QBs that you see as a franchise QB? Is there one of those guys you would be willing to put your job on the line for, because that's the reality for Fitts, Rhule and McAdoo. I don't the that guy this year. I see potential, but I don't see one that's head and shoulders above the rest. I do see some elite level talent at OT and that's where I would lean if I were picking.

Having him as WR1 and DJ as WR1a would be filthy if we can find a QB. I'm over RA and don't know what to make of TMJ. Still want a LT, if the right one is available.

I'm not disagreeing with you about Fitt and McAdoo being the primary evaluators. What I'm worried about is that regardless of evaluation, this is Rhule's decision because he's the HC. He thinks he knows more than everyone else and his ego despite back to back 5 win seasons is baffling, hence the Jay-Z comments and his system working 1000% but we just can't see it. Rhule is going to choose his guy if we take a QB at 6, regardless of the evaluations, because he's the coach and this is possibly his only chance to save his job in Carolina. He's desperate (unless he seriously thinks he can't be fired), and the rest of the NFL knows it. I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit calls and makes some noise about taking a QB just to get Rhule to give up 6 and next years first to move up. For now, I trust McAdoo and Fitts. I don't trust Rhule not to completely screw it up because he's knows better than everyone else in the NFL.

It would be highly unlikely that Rhule has zero input in the QB selection process. This is going to be the QB installed in his offense. I detest Rhule, that's no secret, but this isn't about my dislike for him as a coach. His decision making regarding NFL caliber talent is questionable at best. If Tepper and Fitts are going to select a QB and tell Rhule to make him work, then they should have already fired him. This is about the big picture. The big picture is you either have 100% faith in your coach or you don't. With 1 pick in the first 2 days, we have to get this right at one of the 2 biggest positions of need we have. Rhule has already demonstrated with his QB choices and his decision at LT (starting Irving, calling Slater a guard after being announced all pro, and keeping BC on the bench) that he lacks the ability to make that decision.

It doesn't matter if you stay put or trade down if that talent doesn't see the field. We're in the position we're in right now debating whether or not we need a LT because Rhule refused to start BC until he had no choice. TMJ and Brown should have gotten playing time once we were out but Rhule didn't do that either. We have a coach that has selected as his guys, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, and PJ Walker. There's no way I'm letting Rhule anywhere near selecting a QB at 6, especially when he's desperate. It's just a bad idea all the way around.

Finding a college QB to run a college offense is relatively easy with NFL talent. Granted we have a new NFL level OC but we still have a college coach, so no.

Even if Baker was performing at an Alex Smith level in KC, if a talent like Watson comes available, you go after him. Watson can likely get you to a SB repeatedly, and that's what the ultimate goal is.

Draft Thibs at 6, trade Burns to Philly for 16 and next year's NO 1st. Draft Penning or whoever slides out of our top 10.

If we do roll with Darnold and he drastically improves, it's not going to be a one year wonder. In order to improve, we're going to actually be able to see on film Pre snap reading of defenses will improve Calm footwork after the snap Quick progression through his receivers Willingness to hang in the pocket instead of quick routes Ability to dissect changes in defense week to week Those are things we don't see right now. If he improves to the point he's asking for a $30 million a year contract, those improvements are going to be crystal clear. If they aren't, let someone else pay the price and enjoy our 3rd round comp, unless we screw that up in FA.

And therein lies the problem. Rhule can't be the expert at every single position. You have to trust your position coaches. If Campen says BC should start at LT, he should start. Otherwise why bring these guys in to begin with. Let them do their jobs and stop micromanaging everything.

In his 1st year, Chinn looked like the DROY. Hell, he would have been if Young hadn't been such a big name pre-draft. He had that much of an impact on games. He may not have always made the play but he definitely impacted how opposing offenses were run. Last year, it wasn't that he was invisible, he just didn't have that kind of impact on the field. He was an average FS making lots of tackles behind a bad front 7. That was a bad move by coaching staff. He has never been a FS. He should be at SS where his skills are better suited.

From what you've heard, do they have him rated higher than Zion Johnson? I've seen Johnson's value climbing into the late 1st round, and he's the top ranked hybrid I've seen on a lot of rankings.

Very true. Unfortunately we just don't have the draft capitol to gamble this year, especially at 6. Not playing a lot of our draft picks from last year has really hurt us because we have no idea what we do or don't have. Last year's failure was much larger than the record reflects.

That's just as worrisome as a LT with sloppy footwork. Some things you can just look at and say stay the hell away from this guy.

We got lucky Daniel Snyder wanted Haskins so badly. He forced them to take him ahead of us then Sweat with their 2nd first round pick. I remember wondering what the hell Washington was thinking when they took Haskins knowing they needed a DE.

With Rhule as HC, I don't think there is. This team is extremely dysfunctional right now and it starts with our HC. Who (other than Tepper) can look at the way our team has been running the last 2 years and honestly say that Matt Rhule is going to turn this franchise around and build a winner?

Finding any offensive linemen who is serviceable as a backup in the 6th is ok in my book. It's about what I would expect in that round. A warm body that can play a game here and there but not a guy you expect to start week to week.

If we hadn't already invested so heavily in Darnold and given up our 3rd this year for Henderson, I wouldn't be so against taking a chance on one of these guys. But we really can't afford to do that now with all the holes that we need to fill. Unless we get one of the top 3 tackles, the move needs to be a trade back and recoup some picks just to recover from the debacle that is that trade and 5th year option.

The fact that if Burns hadn't been available the pick would have been Little is a relief and makes you want to throw up at the same time. We had so much opportunity in that draft and blew it on Greg Little and Will Grier.
