Part of it is with replay getting better and better, you can see the mistakes. But the majority of it really is there is no consistency from one game to the next on what "insert penalty here" really is. DJ gets an unsportsmanlike for taking his helmet off outside the field of play. Countless other players take theirs off in the middle of the field to celebrate and crickets. What defines a catch? What is PI? Holding? WTF is considered a sack vs roughing the passer? You can't expect coaches, players, and fans not to constantly call bullshit when there is zero continuity on how a game is called.

When I knew the game was "influenced" was SB50. Aqib Talib grabs Philly Brown by the facemask and throws him out of bounds. This was only given a 15 yard facemask penalty at the time. Fast forward to after the Super Bowl and Talib comes out and says he was intentionally trying to injure Brown. He could have severely injured or killed him. The punishment. A 25k fine. He openly admitted and laughed about what Sean Payton was suspended a year for doing. And the league did nothing. The league got what they wanted and Manning went out a winner.

If we offered to swap 1sts and 2nds, add Burns (possibly valued at 2 future 1sts and a 2nd this year) since he is a proven edge rusher, and add the 9ers 2nd, would that be a move we should/could consider to get to 1 if necessary. That would be 3 1sts, 2 2nds in value to move up 8 spots.

Part of the reason I thought the Burns trade actually made some sense. More 1st round picks to give up if we needed to move. Obviously you want to keep an edge rusher, but without a QB, edge rusher isn't going to lead you to the playoffs, much less a SB. Before we start getting serious about trades, I want to see who we get as an OC. That's going to be very telling about the type of QB we try to acquire.
