Hard to pay FA WRs when you've spent so much of your cap on the oline. And no matter how much you spend on offense or how many picks, its not going to fix the fumbling issue or the footwork fundamentals that haven't improved at all in the slightest and those have nothing to do with anyone except Bryce.

The Dowdle Mirage - Play Calling Problems
SmokinwithWilly replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Quality of win matters. An example of absurdity. Would the team be more improved winning an entire season facing off against high school teams or losing against NFL teams. The answer is obvious. NFL teams would require more innovation, more ingenuity, more preparation, more work. That's why losing but improving your quality is more important than just winning without necessarily improving. -
The Dowdle Mirage - Play Calling Problems

I hope the culture is changing. I seriously hope it does. But after 3 decades, I need more than a win. I need more than a season. I need seasons. I need to see the culture shift. We've had wins here and there, but ultimately, they haven't led to winning. As a fan, after this long. I want more. So if for you as a fan, getting a win is a cause to celebrate in the moment, more power to you. I'm past the moment now. I've moved on to big picture. -
The Dowdle Mirage - Play Calling Problems

Its not about being salty after a 17 point comeback and a 200 yard rusher. Those things are great and aren't to be overlooked. Its looking at the overall picture and asking yourself, where those a great individual effort on Rico's part? Yes. Did DC have an amazing game plan that created those opportunities? Meh. Rico broke a lot of tackles and did some hard nose running and there was some piss poor tackling as well. Did Bryce put it a herculean effort and really put this team on his back and carry them to victory? I dont think so. He had 2 turnovers and played OK for the 2nd half. Nothing that makes me say thats the guy thats gonna lead our team for the next decade. Looking at our defense. Adjustments were made, Evero did well shutting down Achane who is a good RB. We had a good defensive game with a few mistakes here and there. Im 3 decades into being a Panther fan. Wins like this don't do much for me. We beat a bad team. We haven't had back to back winning seasons ever. We haven't had a winning season in 8 years. Our FO and coaching staff has a lot to prove. So no, Im not going to get exited about a win over a team thats likely going to end up with a top 3 pick or a QB that imploded. Ill get excited about a winning season or clear visible progress even if we lose every game. Things that show this team is actually moving in the right direction and implementing the things that will produce a winning product year in and year out. Until then. Who cares about beating a division rival on our way to another top 10 draft pick and a 5-12 season. Yay. We still suck balls. But we got a moral victory. That poo is for losers. Im tired of the Panthers and their fans being perennial losers. -
Sometimes players see things from the field coaches cant see from above. When I was an OL I would often come out after a series and talk to coach about small shifts the defense was making to cheat one way or another and how to adjust plays to take advantage. I suspect many players do the same. Different perspectives allow for different calls.

Bryce Young Is a Symptom, Not the Disease

Not so much the franchise as the owner. I realize its his franchise and all, but the majority of the fan base realized at the time that bringing him in would definitely send the wrong message especially considering why JR was forced to sell, and two, it would literally cripple the franchise for 4 years in salary cap and picks for a guy who was going to be suspended for who knew how long. It was epic stupidity on grand display and Big Daddy Dave was leading the charge. -

I remember a previous 1st round Jags player we took that didn’t work out too well for us. -
Ferguson is going to cause us some problems, especially if Lamb is back. Don't see how we can cover Lamb, Pickens and Ferguson, especially in the middle of the field. Our LB deficiencies will show up big time.

Did the Panthers get Mike McDaniel fired now?

Sounds eerily familiar. -
Because Darth Tepper is the root of all evil in Panther land and must be purged from the galaxy.

I would love to enjoy the win but I can't. The problem is we have the largest collection of incompetence in our front office and ownership in the NFL and wins like this will likely result in reassuring Big Daddy Dave that Bryce was the right choice and we need to lock him down with a 6 year 320m deal fully guaranteed. Bryce either needs to be superstar or half a star. This middle of the road crap being bailed out by others spectacular incompetence ie. Penix or a career day for Rico and the defense cant keep happening.

Material makes more of a difference. I work outside in dark colors and light when its 90 plus. That and you have to stay on top of your electrolytes. Dehydration will kick your butt fast. I use supplements in capsule form that work great. -

Bersin wasnt much in the receiving department but he could catch anything that hit his hands and could take a hit. Put his drive in XLs body and you'd have something -
Bryce Young Is a Symptom, Not the Disease
SmokinwithWilly replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Im not a Morgan fan either, but Im still not 100% convinced that BY and the lack of competition isn't a Tepper thing vs a Dan thing which means it's still a Dan problem. We need to upgrade our backup. Dalton was re-signed to keep Bryce comfortable, not compete for a starting job. Bryce was Tepper's draft choice through yes man Fittershits, not Reich's. I could very well be wrong, but it would appear that there' pressure coming from above Dan to give as much leash to Bryce as possible and not challenge him at all. Either he rises or he falls. Good in theory, terrible for an NFL team on an 8 year poo the bed streak. -

Regardless of the trade and where he was picked, Bryce actively created deception. He wore a hoodie to the combine and was 15 lbs heavier because he packed on water weight because he didnt weigh near 200 lbs. He didn't participate in drills in a wide open 4 way, really 3, QB bid. Then there was all this hype over the S2 test that he had been practicing that we've never heard about in the draft process since. Does anyone think it was an accident Stroud's score on the S2 was released? Stroud said forget the score, watch his tape. Wonder why. There was a whole bunch of shady poo going on surrounding Bryce pre draft, and I for one, find it all a little too convenient. Just my opinion, but he was a used car salesman that used some armor all and a wash n wax and maybe a set of white walls then schmoozed his way at dinner with Dave and Nicole and sold them that he was a super savant. There was a whole lot of BS swirling around the BY hype train and he was a full fledged participant. Frank didn't want Bryce, he wanted Stroud. A new head coach does not pick a QB he has to go design a brand new offense around unless that guy is a generationaltalent, which Bryce was most definitely not. He picks the guy that best fits what he does and that was Stroud. This was Dave and Nicole's pick and they fuged this team like they've done over and over again since they've been here. They fell for use car salesman Rhule, then used car salesman Bryce and company. And the fans got stuck with the 4 years of payments on a car less reliable than Al Bundy's Dodge. -
Pass catching TEs really seem to help these young QBs. Wonder why we never thought of that. Ian Thomas was always good at cashing that paycheck though.

You know what's worse about the QB situation?
SmokinwithWilly replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think we need to stop worrying so much about finding another immediate starter. Whoever we draft we need to do this the right way. 1st year, clipboard unless an injury dictates otherwise. We've seen time and time again how much better these guys do just having a year to get acclimated to the NFL game and climate. My thought for next year. Find a FA QB to run DC'S system because I think you have to give him year 3 for any possible future hires to even remotely consider Carolina. Then if DC shows serious improvement as a HC, let him draft a QB that meets his criteria, use the bridge while his carries the clipboard, and in the meantime, spend some capitol on defense, and get rolling. If DC doesnt work in year 3, show him and Morgan the door, clean the whole damn house out of rats, and build this place the right way from the top, starting by locking Dave and Nicole in a luxury resort in Luxembourg, the French Riviera, or in some Buddhist monastery. Just keep them away from daily operations and leave me the checkbook. -

I don't want him drafting a QB either. Id rather find a FA QB that sort of fits that mold to see if he can do anything with his system. Thats partially why I'd like to get a Howell or Winston type now so they'd have longer to get acclimated to the system for next year, even if we finish the year with Bryce. -

Hate to say it but we can't fire DC right now. He was basically forced to work with BY as part of his conditions for being hired and hasn't really had the opportunity to get a QB of his own. That's not a good look when you're interviewing new candidates. A coach has to be given the chance to do his job with players that fit what he does and DC hasn't been given that chance. Fire him and you're putting another box on the list to keep coaches from coming here. Plus, Morgan needs to be given another year as well so he can either show he's can have a successful draft or he's a bust as well so the whole damn show can be flipped and started over with a president of football operations and build from there. No more hold overs. Empty the damn building and start with a brand new staff. -

Yep. When he had the chance to run for a SB victory, he passed on the opportunity.

Canales in his press conferences

He might get another shot somewhere. All he has to do is put he worked for Dave Tepper on his resume and got 8 figures for a year and a half worth of "work". They'll probably consider him a genius.
