Detroit Fans "Ben Johnson is Terrible, Stay Away"
SmokinwithWilly replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
We could have, but we were dealing with an owner that hired Hurney. Twice. -
I don't think we have any intentions of trading up. If we did, we would have pulled the trigger on the Burns trade. I know you need an edge rusher, but 5 1sts and 5 2nds over 3 years is a lot of necessary ammo to work with if you have intentions of moving up to get into one of the top 2 spots to get the most valuable position on the field.

Giants player jogging off the field after 4th down with his helmet off. There really needs to be a serious review of rules this off-season and their enforcement.
-
At this point just put flags on the QBs.

Theres a reason everyone was talking about Cam taking the number of hits he was and the RB at 30 wall. You cant take that kind of pounding constantly without it having an effect. Luck retired because he was tired of always being dinged up. All those hits are gonna add up and it will only take 1 TJ type hit to end any of their careers.

Difference being Lamar is the ravens offense. Saquon is the focus of the Giants. The Ravens are doing the same thing and designing their offense around Lamar running a lot. Thats why its not sustainable if it keeps up.

Payton, Herbert, Ekeler, Williams, Allen, Palmer, Everett. That offense could be very scary.
-
And Jets fans didn't think they could despise Sam Darnold more.
-
Does Herbert take the torch from Ryan yet?

What a difference a coach makes
-
He may have been trying to pin them in since coverage team was much closer

Zay Jones got mauled on that 2pt

That's the prize for moral victories. Jets and Lawrence would have been interesting to see.
-
That and the NFL wasn't going to let a corporate icon like Manning go 1-3 in SBs and go out on a loss.

We got a first hand look watching Cam's career and body get obliterated from the punishment he took playing his style of QB and the NFL letting it happen. Lamar is a smaller version of Cam. It's not hate. It's reality concerning the way he plays QB. Plus it's likely a fully guaranteed contract. 5 year 250 mil contract let's say, his career ends on some fluke injury 3 weeks into his first season, that's 50m a year on the books you can't get around. That's a franchise breaker for the next 5 years.

If you look back at the Cowboys offensive line when they were turning out fantasy RB juggernauts every year, they were always investing in their OL. When they stopped making it a priority, it started faltering. OL is the position I think you have to constantly address every year. 5 starters, 4 backups are the usual roster makeup. You have to always keep investing if you want to keep the line strong. Injuries are going to happen, sometimes multiples. Young, talented depth growing behind experienced starters is a very good thing.

That's why I'm always a fan of taking a promising guard late in the draft. It's one of the easier positions to transition to the NFL and you can never have enough interior line depth.

CMC wanted out of Carolina. He was done here. This team has been led by incompetence for years, starting with the owner(s). We got more for him than we would have this offseason. Nobody is really happy about how things played out with CMC from his usage to the contract, to Matt Rhule's limp dick offense over the past 3 years. I can only hope the trade benefits us by showing Tepper what can be done with an offensive minded HC and some creative playcalling.

Wilks / Fitterer Season Ending Presser
SmokinwithWilly replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Depth is a hard thing to have in the NFL given the 53 man roster. Our OL held together better than any other in the league or close to it for the majority of the season. We need some pieces for sure, but some of those may actually be here. Rhule was so bad at evaluating talent, it's hard to know exactly what we have until we get into this offseason. -
Tepper clearly wants to change the Panthers identity
SmokinwithWilly replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
He did with a 7-9 record. If you don't have a winning record, I wouldn't consider it really "winning" the division. -
He's could be more focused on pointy elbows than coaching at this point. Not that I would blame him.

Lose when it matters, win when it doesn’t
SmokinwithWilly replied to mcsmoak's topic in Carolina Panthers
It doesn't matter if they're top 5 pick QBs or not. It's about being in the best position available to bring the right players to your team. You think Texans fans are cheering their heads off because they won today, or are they lamenting the fact that they now have the 2nd choice of QBs? The win matters only in the fact that it can hurt you overall. Realizing that moral victories don't help the franchise doesn't make you less of a fan. It just means you recognize that a single win is can be the difference between drafting Peyton Manning vs Ryan Leaf. -

Bet the Jets are glad Darnold won that 2nd game and they ended up with Wilson instead of Lawrence. Moral victories hurt the team in the long run. -

Winning when it matters always matters.
