First off, I needed a break from the Watson trade talks. I still think we end up with more DW threads than days until trade deadline, but I digress. So without further ado, I'm a big proponent of trading down and trying to pick up extra picks if all 4 top QBs are gone by 8 and we don't make a move up to get one or end up with DW or MS, and Sewell is gone also. I've been thinking about trade partners and who could move and why and Jacksonville is a team I could see possibly wanting to trade back up and why. We would give our 1st (8) and 4th(103) for Jax 1st (25) and 2nds (33 and 45). Now of course you have to ask who would Jax move up to get. Surtain, Smith, Chase, Slater, Parsons all possible to be available. But the player I could see them moving up for is Pitts. Everyone has seen how much a TE can exploit a defense and Pitts presents a mismatch nightmare and a great safety net for a rookie QB. He could be considered an elite talent. Now if we moved down it would open up a plethora of options having 4 picks in the top 45. We could add a QB like Newman, Trask or Jones if we wanted and still have extra picks to grab 2 guys that fall out of the first and bolster some positions where we are thin. The trade is skewed in our favor naturally, an elite talent level pick for 3 very talented picks. Jax might want a 3rd instead of a 4th but it would still calculate in our favor. Given how many holes we have, with the top 4 being gone, and a chance to have 3 instant contributors vs 1, would you make that move?

Cant we just bring back Clausen if we wanna go that route. -
Panthers let go of a couple of front office guys

Sounds like he was just around the Hurndog too much. -
There's more to the NFL than playing the game. Theres a business side to this too and most of these guys arent to good at that judging by the 75% of them that are broke 5 years after retirement. JR always wanted this to be a family organization and at some point you cant do that anymore. Break ups are ugly. People arent happy. poo gets blown out of proportion. This is part of the business.

Because Bill O’Brian thought Tunsil and Stills was worth 2 1sts and Andre Hopkins was only worth a 4th and a bloated RB contract. He is one of the few GMs I would take Hurney over.

Most Disappointing Moves of the 2020 Offseason

I think Tepper underestimated the level of Hurney’s stupidity. He wasn’t here for the first run so he hadn’t seen how so many of these deals had actually ended up.- 35 replies

I think it's too steep because Houston has no leverage here. They can ask whatever they want but Watson is driving this train. We need Watson to say the Panthers is where he wants to be. Use that to get the asking price down. I think 3 1sts and our 2nd this year plus TB and we get Watson and their 2nds in 22 and 23.

Deshaun WATSON Officially Requests Trade from Texans
SmokinwithWilly replied to ncstatekwi's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm sure they would want him out of the AFC too, but if you're setting up your franchise, you may not get your QB at 3. Miami is a great landing spot too, I guess it all depends on if they want a QB in the draft and if they think the Jets will take him. -

Sadly that's the case. The Jets actually would be the ideal trade partner. With the 2 pick and the extras, the Texans could draft their future QB or request Darnold as part of the trade or both. Saleh has his QB and is good and has the foundation of a good oline. Those 2 are a perfect trade match. Sadly, here we are with 2 contracts we never should have signed with TB and CMC and are sitting I cap strapped hell when an opportunity really presents itself. Thanks Marty, you're the best. -
Who would be poor mans Jimmy Clausen? Brian St. Pierre or Chris Weinke?

Bieniemy apparently out of the running in Houston
SmokinwithWilly replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'll say this is purely speculation on my part, but I wonder if he isnt a good test taker. Which is essentially what a job interview is. I know I interview poorly, but put me in my environment in the job and I can walk you through every aspect of what needs to be done. -

To be fair to him though, it hard to have a plan when you dont know if you're going to have a QB and the previous coach/GM traded away your 1st. What's he supposed to say? I could build you a winner in 3 years but you've been a fuggin idiot of an owner. -
They do, except QB is the most hard to fill position on the field. If you think that the future of your franchise is there at 4, whether or not he sits 2 years, you take him because you dont know when you will have another opportunity. QB is the only position I do that for. Again all of this based off whether or not they think one of those QBs is the guy. Most recent to do it was KC. They moved up and took their guy, sat him a year, and he's the face of the franchise.

It depends on the strategy involved. If you are trying to make a SB run in the next 2 years, then you go defense. If you recognize that 2 drafts isnt enough to turn this team around before Ryan is done, then looking at a QB makes sense. Atlanta is not 1 key defensive piece away from fielding a championship caliber team. They need pieces all over so they would need to absolutely nail the next 2 drafts, which is statistically unlikely, to get there. All the while, Ryan is aging. His milage is limited. Go for it all now and hope that a new coach, relying on key rookie pieces, can get you there in the next 2 years and you swing for the fences, or take your future QB now, set yourself up for the next 10-15 years if he's "the guy" and use all your remaining picks to go for the championship. Its 50/50 which way they go but to consider the future of your franchise is never dumb. It's the one thing Hurney could never do and look at how many winning seasons that got him .
-
It's not a dumb pick if you think your future QB is there. They know that Ryan is there at least one more year. New coach takes his QB, let's him sit behind Ryan for a year which is not a bad thing, jettison that contract in 2022 and start off with "your" guy.
-
Better question is, IF the first 4 QBs are gone by 8, who are teams going to trade up for? It's easy to say trade up, but is there someone there that is going to demand the capital required to move up into 8.

I told my wife before we got married the only thing changing was her last name. Marriage is a legal construct, commitment is personal.
