ESPN 1st Round Pick Preseason Reviews(LT only Edition)
SmokinwithWilly replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would have. I prefer a mean streak that you just can't teach and Ikky definitely has that. -
I'd have been happy with 2015 if we had a ring
-
I've never had a problem handing someone the reigns and telling them, if you want to keep it, work for it. To the guy under him, if you want it, take it. It does away with the bullshit and they still drive each other to be better. The ultimate goal is Super Bowl trophy. So 1st or 2nd string, it's all important. Hoisting the Lombardi takes 53 players bringing it all together. Sam pushing Baker is just as important as Baker pushing Sam. We all saw what happened when Wentz went down and Foles led the Eagles to the Super Bowl. Every position is important but the primary focus should always be a ring.

See here’s the thing. If you go back and look at posts from the last 2 years, you’ll find plenty of know it all people who repeatedly knew it before our HC. I’m not saying we could do it all better ourselves, but giving the man a pass on numerous instances of incompetence isn’t being a good fan. It’s merely ignoring the obvious fact that Rhule has made multiple decisions that have hurt this team and eroded faith from the fan base. -

1. Letting Cam walk with 1 year remaining following an injury year. While not necessarily an elite starter, he was a better option than... 2. Teddy 2 gloves. Burned a 3rd rd comp pick and paid 60m only to trade him away and eat salary. 3. Bringing in Sam Darnold for a 2nd, 4th and 6th after admitting to watching very little tape 4. PJ. Nuff said 5. SD not playing in preseason last year. He needed the reps. 6. Elfein 7. Irving 8. Crap guards 9. Drafting TMJ instead of a center when we had Paradis 10. Hiring a staff with almost zero nfl experience 11. BC all over the line when we couldn't field a JAG LT. 12. Chinn to FS neutralizing the should be DROY 13. No 3rd qtr adjustments 14. Bullshit camp competition that isn't fooling anyone. 15. Saying he graded all pro LT Slater as a guard not a LT 16. System working 1000% while getting your ass kicked 17. Bringing Cam in mid season and getting some fan passion only to nuke it for Mr. Turnover. That's a start. -
We fired an OC that was never qualified to be OC to begin with. See the problem there. But I'm sure there's someone from Baylor or Temple we could have hired no problem.
-
So he had to be told to go out and give a qualified candidate for OC. Well damn. I bet every other NFL coach has to be told to hire someone who is actually qualified instead of all your buddies from college. This is common fuging sense and should have to be told to a coach entering his 3rd year in the NFL.
-
Since it was widely reported by multiple sources, I'd say a lot of people believe it.
-
He went and signed these coaches because he was told he had to or he was getting fired. That's not growth. That's saving your own ass.
-
Sorry. Matt Rhule has shown absolutely nothing to prove he is a capable NFL head coach.
-
I don't disagree with playing with pain, just saying that if it's uncomfortable, I get it. How will that end up for him, likely not well.
-
Soft tissue injuries are so iffy. It's just hard to trust it unless it feels new. I pulled a hammy that took 3 months to recover from, and about 95% healed I pulled it again. Not saying that's the case but I understand wanting it to feel perfect.
-
The job was always Baker's to lose, not win. You don't pursue 2 FA QBs if the answer is possibly on your roster. Does Baker have problems, sure. But he doesn't have Sam problems. If he has maturity or health issues that are problems before he steps foot on the field, well that's an issue for the FO that they should have handled before the trade, not after.
-
My thought pretty much. It's like he's searching through the playbook on Madden trying to find just the right play only to hit ask Madden anyway.
-
Everyone one this message board knew it when we were trying to trade for Watson and we damn sure knew it when we traded for Baker.
-
I'm out on the west coast and that isn't even remotely close to what they're saying. They're hoping Rhule continues as head coach because it's pretty much a gimme win. Carolina and Rhule are a laughing stock out here.
-
Hey it worked for the My Pillow guy really well didn't it. Any publicity is good for business.
-
There's good marketing and bad marketing. Making yourself look like a clown show is bad marketing.
-
This all really isn't about Corral and his ability at QB. It's about mismanagement of the QB position this year. When we traded for Baker, he became our number 1. Corral is our 3rd round pick so he's automatically #3. That leaves our 2 between SD and PJ. It really doesn't matter which because they are both the same QB and we are eating their salaries regardless. Pick one, cut the other, move on already. There's no reason for all these competition shenanigans. It's not fooling anyone. Developing your 3rd rd qb pick is more important than possible trading SD or PJ for a future 7th rd pick that's likely to never make the roster anyway.
-
Not at all. Guys melting down because the handling of the roster has been a clown show. Again.
-
It should have happened at the end of last season and I can't see it happening until at least 10 games are played OR we are being thoroughly embarrassed in our effort to become the first 0-17 franchise in NFL history. For now, Rhule is our HC until such time as he isn't.
-
We're not rooting for failure. Failure only accomplishes one thing hopefully, the firing of Matt Rhule. The way he's handled the team the past 2 years and now in TC this year leave anyone who pays attention scratching their heads wondering who the hell does Rhule think he's fooling. I'm not writing off the season because i believe we can still win games, but I've long since written off Rhule as a competent head coach.
-
When he does something worth getting excited over, I'll get excited. As long as he keeps making boneheaded moves, I'll keep saying he's not an NFL caliber coach and never has been. And there has been no shortage of them because I even when so far as to list 15 of them in another thread that the Huddle called moronic when they happened, and were right. I could have listed more, but it really didn't feel necessary to just keep piling on.
-
Actually I didn't have any delusions of grandeur for Corral. It wouldnt matter if you inserted Pickett, Howell, Zappe, Willis or any other QB that we traded up into the 3rd to acquire. My issue has always been how Matt Rhule has been incompetent, and that's being very generous, with regard to the QB position of this franchise since his arrival. Teddy was never a franchise QB. But we signed him to a ridiculous contract based on backup level performance only to eat his contract and trade him a year later. Then we bring in THE Sam Darnold barely watching any game tape on him. Trade a 2nd, 4th, and 6th for a QB no one else wanted. Didn't play him in preseason. A couple wins, barely against the Jets starting a rookie QB, barely against a mid round rookie qb in his first NFL game, and a win against NO missing half their coaching staff because of covid. Then he got to some real NFL competition and it all fell apart. Shocker. We will ignore the 5th year extension. PJ is PJ. He's here because of where he went to school. There's 20 other PJs out there. That's just the cold hard truth. So we bring in a busted Cam, start him with no preparation, and expect what? We continue losing. But Cam did bring some energy, so naturally we benched him for Darnold. Then there's Watson and that debacle. It's not like Sam didn't know he was out as starter. But then Watson didn't want us, thankfully, which caused a poo show in Cleveland causing friction so... Now we have Baker as our starter. Well, not officially because it's still a competition with a guy we tried to replace TWICE this off-season. And of course we still have PJ who brings, whatever he brings to Rhule to still be on the roster. And we have Corral. A QB we traded up into the 3rd to get. We need to develop him. We needed a plan that goes beyond this season. He needed the reps in preseason and camp because if he doesn't get them, it delays his development. Sam is gone after this season, and PJ likely was at the end of camp before Corral's injury. 2 guys who shouldn't be here at the beginning of next year. If Baker gets hurt, our season is done. Sam and PJ aren't taking you to a wild card or a division title. Redshirt him during the season if you feel the need. But when it mattered, for the future of his development and the only QB under contract beyond this season it was important to get more than 3 snaps in practice and some mental reps. Rhule is all about the win now mentality. It reeks of desperation because if he doesn't win, he's done. At least most other owners would fire him, maybe not Tepper. My biggest fear, and expectation, is we're going to be headed into next season with a new coach, new staff, no experience in our QB room, looking like an expansion team trying to figure out how to find a QB. I'm not saying playing Corral would have fixed all that and somehow made everything better and been our Russell Wilson. But it would have shown some forethought and planning for the future. But we don't do that here.
