We currently have a RT playing under the franchise tag that wants to get paid
-
I wouldn’t be too surprised if we go WR at 8. Last year, a certain WR would’ve been one of the targets had they traded back. I personally want Sewell or Slater and it’s not even up for debate. I don’t care about how deep this draft is at tackle. If they went and got tackles in rounds 1 and 2 I’d be thrilled about it. We all know how valuable a rookie contract for a QB is but the tackles spots aren’t too far behind. If we end up paying Darnold, rookie deals at LT and RT might be needed. Waddle may be this years version of the trade back target of last years draft. If Pitts was there he’d be the pick but that sure as hell ain’t happening so... Give me a damn LT

Ding ding ding

I dunno... Both the Chargers and especially the Vikings could go tackle. If they have Darrisaw as LT2 and really like him, take him at 8. Left tackle has been a massive need for way too long. But again, all depends what their board looks like. If they have 3-4 guys lumped in there closely then it makes sense to trade back but if Darrisaw is their clear #2... just take him

What are the numbers that will make you believe??

Teams looking to trade up for quarterbacks

Same. Don’t get cute, don’t overthink it, we NEED a damn LT! It’s been way too long without. -
I agree. After the Matt debacle I wouldn’t have bothered. Also... https://www.google.ca/amp/s/jetswire.usatoday.com/2019/08/05/sam-darnold-big-reason-ryan-kalil-unretired-new-york-jets/amp/

He owes us one

It’s why I say I don’t think it’s as far fetched as some may think to practically consider this season to be Darnold’s year 2. No QB in that 2018 draft class that has gone on to have success would be succeeding right now had they been drafted 3rd by the Jets. No young QB is going to succeed these days without coaching. The more I read up on guys talk about Gase and the environment inside that locker room the more excited I get about seeing what a coach like Rhule can do with Sam.

Breer talks about Gase (and Tannehill; oh, and Darnold)
*FreeFua* replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
For me, I just want to see him show progress. After hearing Robby talk about the “culture” in NY and Adam Gase, I think the argument could be made to throw out years 2 and 3. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/sam-darnold/32004441-5246-6141-9e5c-6e7d32a03e33 His pro comp in his draft profile was Andrew Luck. He’s tweaked his throwing motion since his college days for the better. He’s still only 23. If he can just get back on track and show more good than bad, I think he’s worth putting time into. It’ll truly be interesting to see which way this one goes. We have an extremely highly touted prospect versus an extremely dysfunctional organization. *I’m not saying he’s Andrew Luck btw or anything. I just don’t think you can comp someone to Luck and be that horribly wrong. -

Robby Anderson said this on a podcast a week ago about Gase and brought up him “coaching” Manning... I posted the entire podcast in another thread and it’s a good listen but this is specifically on Gase in this mini clip. He actually talks about the Jets and their lack of culture for about 10 mins -
To the media and public yes but that’s it.

If they thought Lance or Fields was a franchise QB they would’ve moved up to 3 to take them. Now if they fall to 8 may they roll the dice? Who knows.

Robby Anderson on Darnolds and the Jets FO
*FreeFua* replied to Daeavorn's topic in Carolina Panthers
This was from 6 days ago. Robby talks about Gase/Bowles, the Jets overall not caring, CULTURE, Rhule and a lot more. This interview becomes a lot more relevant to us now that we have Darnold. This interview probably deserves its own thread tbh. Robby says he hopes he’s a Panther for life -
Jordan starts talking about Sam around the 5:15 mark. Talks about what they’re going to work on this offseason, Sam’s work ethic and more

You have to think the Bengals are a 100% lock to take a tackle. Had the media not fallen in love with Sewell so long ago, Slater would be getting a lot more attention right now. If Slater is there at 8, I’m sprinting the card to the podium
-
My fear is that Cincy and Detroit both go tackle. Detroit would move Slater to RT. Maybe Cincy takes Slater and Detroit values someone else more than drafted Sewell and moving him to RT...
-
It’s Slater or Sewell. If both are gone you trade back. Hopefully Denver stays at 9 and Washington or New England want to move up. My trade back target is Darrisaw. Jaycee Horn is awfully tempting but you have to give Darnold a LT. You traded for him in hopes of turning around his career. He needs a LT to have a shot at that

@TheRumGone I just looked, and Darnold and Jets went 6-2 in their last 8 games. Sam was actually 7-6 that year. Had he not missed those games due to mono who knows. I legit can’t think of any weapons worth a damn he would’ve had that year. Then last year was just a downright mess. Maybe you just throw out last season entirely and hope to get another shot on his crucial year 3 I see both sides of this one especially after the Teddy debacle last year but I’m going to be optimistic because sitting here and counting down the days to the following year ain’t much fun, for me at least.

I do agree about the 2nd rounder. That is what I think most of us have hesitation about. 6th and next years 4th absolutely do it. The 2nd rounder definitely would make me think. But given how this offseason has played out so far our options were becoming limited. Josh Norris isn’t wrong when he said that if the Panthers liked Fields or Lance they would’ve traded up. I said a week ago I’m not even sure they take Fields if he’s there at 8. They backed themselves into a corner with Teddy, there was no way he could play another game here so they went out and got Sam. Last year was Sam’s worst. With Gase eventually being fired I think it all came undone which is unfortunate because Darnold had a solid finish to the 2019 season. Plus that 3rd year is crucial. I agree on the coaching too. We can sit here and blame OL, WR and etc but he pulled the trigger on some balls he shouldn’t have. I guess we’ll soon find out how much of it was coaching and how much of it was Sam.
-
And that’s exactly how the Panthers felt which is why they made the move for Darnold
