If the Panthers were tanking I could easily get behind this but they’re clearly not -

WR C TE In that order but C is a massive need.

It certainly seems like they feel as if they can win now. Similar to what happened in Miami… Tua had a coach who didn’t believe in him. So they went out and got someone who did. Pretty sure McDaniels said things we’ve heard Canales say about finding what Bryce does best and do that If we sign Gilmore then on paper this defense looks better than it did last year. Losing Luvu hurts but Shaq’s strengths are similar to Luvu’s and we added Jewell. Obviously we beefed up the IOL. I assume we’ll go C in round 2 if one of the big 3 fall. Diontae is better than anyone we had at wide out last year. So if they felt they could win last year I’m not sure how they wouldn’t feel that way this year at this point.

I really hope they double dip at WR in the 2nd -
Probably us considering this organization has no idea how to support a QB and we’ll be cycling through them every few years
-
Well lucky for you the Panthers have shared your thought process for some time now and it’s exactly why were in this mess Really smart

The Panthers aren’t winning this year though. For one damn season they need to accept that and quit sacrificing future cap one year deals absolutely effect future cap. For one, you roll over what you don’t use. Two, a lot of these one year deals now include void years (dead money). DJ Chark’s dumb contract counts for 3.1 million in dead money this year

Titans going “all in” with Will Levis…

It would make no sense for the Panthers to be signing some of these guys to 1 year contracts this year

He can hardly play safety

Question… Since we agree that money is going to need to be spent on offense to surround Bryce in order for him/this team to be successful… What do you do with Derrick Brown? Are you spending 100 million on ONE player on defense?
-
Agreed. This whole “equivalent to a 1st” compensation is some of the dumbest sh!t I’ve heard them try to sell us My problem is that they aren’t looking ahead during any deal they’re making. When they were trading CMC they knew the Baker/Darnold thing wasn’t the answer. They knew they’d be looking to trade up for a QB/the scouting of Bryce, etc was already beginning with a trade up in mind. The only thing that came from that trade was SF’s 2nd so we could keep our 2nd where’d we’d ultimately draft a 3rd round (at best) player in Mingo. Now Dan Morgan did the exact same thing with Burns. I was hopeful he had another deal in mind when he accepted a 2nd and two 5th’s but that’s clearly not the case. Chances of this group hitting on pick 39 are slim. By “hit” I mean an average player. The two 5th rounders are throw away picks. I’m sure they use them to trade up in round 4 or some crap on a player they’ll cut 2 years from now. Top to bottom this organization is full of morons and the last however many years of misery us fans have suffered through is all the proof you need

I agree about getting Bryce in a system that fits him. That much is obvious. I’m not sure Canales is that guy. NFL Network was showing an old Zona game last night and Kingsbury had Kyler moving around a lot, it was refreshing to see. Canales/Baker seemed to benefit A LOT from Mike Evans last year. We don’t have that guy where defenses rotate for. It’s vital we get a WR1 now imo but it’s not happening. But to the actual point of your post with the money allocation. The two 2nd rounders we have and next years 1st rounder… HAVE to be hits. Or this entire thing is toast. Next years WR class is nice and there’s a couple big time tackles that should available at our pick (I’m assuming top 10). With that in mind. I’m not opposed to drafting a center at 33 or 39 because we’re going to need guys on rookie deals. Ultimately so much has to go right that there’s little to no chance this works. This organization can’t draft worth sh!t and they kept their scouting department intact. When you move up to get your QB your window immediately starts due to the salary cap. Having to do a complete tear down AFTER year 1 leaves us AT BEST a 1-2 year window if they make zero further mistakes (which obviously isn’t happening).

WR Draft News/Gossip per The Athletic Pod

I’m a big fan of Pearsall -
This guy blows
-
Niners wanted pick 17 and Zay Jones for Brandon Aiyuk I’d give them Thielen and that “equivalent of a 1st” BS we keep trading all of our guys for in a heartbeat
-
They could’ve easily sold a trade for Fields with his ability to run. Bring him in on short yardage plays. We don’t have that with Young or Dalton and it’s a valuable thing.

With that said, our entire system was so damn bad last year. Our OL was dreadful. Just from the standpoint of watching prospects for myself I am curious to see how Bryce does in a better situation/offense. From the Panthers fan in me, I am not so curious Lawrence was in a similar situation his rookie season and then the Jags went out and got him a RG (Scherff), WR (Kirk) and TE (Engram). Obviously I am not comparing the two in any other form than their situations alone. The real unfortunate thing is if Bryce flops there is no QB worth taking 1st overall next year. So we’re back to where we were before Bryce. Which again is why I’d draft a QB in this years draft if the right guy falls
