  1. I'm in this camp as well. I see Bryce as the best QB in this class on Day 1 with a top 5 QB ceiling. However, Anthony Richardson has top 3 QB ceiling if he puts it all together. I'm fine with Stroud. However, I see him being a top 8-15 QB. Which is pro bowl level but not all-pro or MVP range I see the other two.
  2. I like Darnell Washington TE from Georgia at no. 39 I think he instantly replaces Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble in being our inline blocker, a serious red zone threat, and potential to develop as a pass catcher but can come along slowly as Hayden Hurst fulfills that role. Washington blocking is rated so good that if he doesn't develop at TE, could be converted to RT.
  3. Is there a precedent for this? A team trades up to 1 for a QB and then trades out of it to recoup picks and let another team make the decision for them. I understand they inquired with Arizona and Seattle for their respective picks, so it indicates they may be comfortable with several of the Qbs in this class. IMO, it comes off as trying to get two dimes for a quarter.
  4. Just for reference that is adjusted QBR with a scale of 0-100 with 50 being average
  5. What do you see as each of the prospect floors and ceilings (Bryce, Stroud, and Richardson)? I ask because you're a poster that may have a preference for one of them, but it wouldn't be doomsday if they go with someone else.
  6. Peyton during his tenure with the Broncos had a below-average NFL arm after having surgery in 2011 to correct a herniated disc near his neck. He still went on to break the NFL passing TD record with the Broncos. That isn't to say that Bryce is Peyton but arm strength is not the end all be all of what makes a great QB.
  7. "Saban recognized that the game was changing, especially at the college level, and to compete for championships, Alabama needed to modernize its offense to light up the scoreboard. The pro-style roots remain, but Saban’s coordinators began to add elements of the modern spread and air raid systems, with Sarkisian putting the finishing touches on the pro-spread. Run-pass options (RPOs), vertical passing from spread formations, and practically zero snaps from under center came to fruition when Mac Jones took over as the starting quarterback. Last season, Jones had the third-highest rate of his passes come off RPO schemes (19%) in the 2021 quarterback class and only attempted 11 passes in his career from under center." https://www.clnsmedia.com/lazar-adapting-offense-to-fit-mac-jones-wont-be-an-issue-for-patriots/ Something to consider for sure. However, it seems from the design of Alabama's offense doesn't call for snaps under center
  8. I'm sure the Panthers will have the full medical report for the QBs, especially for someone like Hendon Hooker that is recovering from an ACL injury. Also, they may get input from strength and conditioning coaches to look at Young's frame to get some type of estimate of how much "good" weight he can put on within 2 NFL offseasons.
  9. My preference is Bryce then CJ second. What ultimately separates the two for me is their on-field intangibles and instincts. If the NFL game was just pure 7on7 football - CJ throws the cleanest passes - on time, with touch and good velocity at all three levels of the field. The issues for me come with his counterpunch - when the pocket isn't clean; when talent on the opposing side is equal or superior; when a designed play doesn't go as planned. What do we consider his signature win? Rosebowl vs Utah or @ Penn State
  10. I think any of the QBs - Stroud, Young, Richardson even Levis and Hooker that may have me scratching my head will be put in a position to succeed here. We just have a difference in who we prefer at 1, which is perfectly fine.
  11. No, it's part of a QBs profile that you use to rank the prospects. I'm sure they are evaluating all the variables that impact their performance which will include pressure. Also, you have a habit of turning anything that Bryce excels at into a caricature - he dances around in the pocket and throws the ball up for grabs His frame is a concern. However, I have to go with his injury history - surgeries, missed games, etc. He's missed one game as a starter and has no reported surgeries. I'm sure the teams will have his complete medical history, even when he stubbed his toe. My input doesn't matter as I'm not part of the Panthers brain trust. Yet until the pick is announced I would take the risk on Bryce because I've consistently listened or read that his tape is better or he is graded as the top QB, even on the majority of mocks that list CJ at 1.
  12. Also, for me is the consistency in evaluating both prospects. If CJ's game against Georgia is evidence that he will use his athleticism more to create plays and perform better under pressure (because I can gladly admit on script with a clean pocket - he is the best QB in the draft) Then Bryce's performance against Georgia should hold equal weight as it included Jalen Carter, a healthy Nolan Smith, Kelee Ringo, and 5 other defenders that went into the first round last year. "The Bama signal-caller took a sack on just 12.5% of his pressured dropbacks in college, an extremely low rate, while his 69.6 pressured-passing grade and 9.3 yards per attempt while under pressure both ranked second at the position."
  13. Thanks for sharing. I like everything he said until he said "safe". I don't like decisions made from a position of fear, scarcity, or lack.
  14. Just wanted to share some comments Fitterer noted about Young's arm strength. I think Young has an average NFL arm, CJ has good NFL , and Mahomes or Allen elite. For below average would be Tua and Teddy Bridgewater. “Thought he was very fluid, very poised,” Fitterer said. “Ball came out of his hand nice and easy — plenty of arm strength. I think, overall, he managed to do well. “Saw a lot of good things out of him. Very in control, very poised. It’s just like you thought it would be. I know I heard comments around me, like, ‘Hey, his arm is better in person than I thought,’ [from] coaches that had only seen tape. That’s from other teams, but it’s always good to hear things like that.”
  15. On Anthony Richardson. His biggest test IMO during the draft process is the private visits and interviews where NFL coaches can review his tape, and ask him about calls and protections - to gauge if the finer works of being a QB will match his athleticism. I think the Panthers, Colts, and Seahawks are the best places for him to land. Panthers have two former NFL QBs and former NFL HC on their staff. Adam Steichen worked with Jalen Hurts and the Seahawks won't expect him to start with Geno Smith as the bridge QB.
  16. Agreed. It's an exciting time to be a Panthers fan! Besides the pressure of getting the No.1 pick right at QB is the landscape of the NFC South and NFC, in general. Our NFC South rival QBs are Derek Carr, Desmond Riddler, and Baker Mayfield. Then outside of that is Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins, Brock Purdy, Jared Goff, Dak, Sam Howell, etc. Only Jalen Hurts is considered top tier category at QB in NFC as the rest are in AFC. The Panthers can swing the pendulum in their favor in the NFC if the QB they get pans out.
  17. I'm curious where do you see CJ's ceiling or comparison to? I've heard Joe Burrow, Drew Brees, Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Geno Smith, etc.
  18. This is a good twist. I like both players and from all accounts are good men off the field. They have both had to overcome adversity with Stroud off the field and Bryce on the field by consistently being doubted due to his size at every level of football he's played. I would go with Bryce. I'm impressed with his mental approach to the game and his ability to create plays from within and outside the pocket. His spatial awareness and instincts are great. I think he has the chance to be special. There is a risk due to his frame particularly potential collarbone or labrum injuries. However, I don't compare him to Tua because Tua reportedly had 5 surgeries at Alabama. This isn't the case with Bryce. For Stroud, I don't see many intangibles in his play. He never beat Michigan, never won Big 10, or got OSU to the title game. Many are banking on 1 game against Georgia as a gauge of his ceiling. I think Stroud will be a good, not a great QB, where we will be on the outside looking in as the other team advances to the conference championship or Superbowl.
  19. He lost Marvin Harrison JR. with about 40 seconds left in the third quarter with Ohio State up 14 entering the 4th quarter. Then rest of the way Ohio State scored 3 points in 4th quarter, allowing Georgia to come back. OSU kicker missed a GW 50 field goal. Harrison played 3/4 of the game and im sure if he was able to play in the 4th quarter, Ohio State would have won outright without needing to kick a FG because it's much easier to play defense when opposing teams top target is out of the picture.
  20. It doesn't add it up because a general feeling is that Young would be considered a generational prospect at QB of the likes of Andrew Luck and Trevor Lawrence if he had the prototypical frame, which he doesn't. Therefore, Stroud and Richardson are in the discussion for first overall pick The "perfect" prospect at QB in this draft would be Anthony Richardson's size and athleticism with Young's mental approach and understanding of football. CJ Stroud is the safest of the top 3 Qbs. He is about 9 - 15 pounds heavier than Bryce and I think could get to 225lbs comfortably. Also, he has 25 starts compared to Richardson's 13 at Florida. My question with Stroud is his ceiling. He has a high floor. However, can he build on the Georgia game and use his athleticism more to create plays off script? His accuracy throwing on the run wasnt as good.
  21. Of course his coach will talk him up. It's about what's being corroborated by sources external from Alabama. Our own QB coach Josh McCown mentioned that Young is doing several things that most college QBs aren't asked to do today. This then gets supported by what Saban said and Scott Fitterer, the Panthers GM comments after meeting with Young in person. No one said that Alabama doesn't recruit 4 or 5 stars every year or send players to the NFL. I'm comparing the level of talent that Alabama had this year to their previous years The one thing Mac Jones did more than Bryce Young is win a national championship as a starter. Jones finished 3rd in the Heisman as his two teammates that year: Devonta Smith won it and Najee Harris finished fifth. Also, Metchie and Jaylen Waddle (played six games) were on the team as well. I'm more sure if Bryce was Stroud's or Richardson's frame. The Bears wouldn't have traded out.
  22. Yes, less training wheels. Bryce operated with more command of the offense and this is supported by Nick Saban's comments that Bryce was like an extra coach on the field this year and the Panthers GM stating that Young's understanding of the game is already at an NFL level. Also, the quality at receiver this year at Alabama wasn't like the previous year with John Metchie and Jameson Williams then before Jaylen Waddle and Devonta Smith or Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs. No OL, TE, or WR from Alabama is projected to go in the first two rounds this year. Jahmyr Gibbs, their RB should be late 1st or early second. This isn't a knock on Stroud or why he shouldn't be considered for no.1 pick. He just wasn't asked to do more than Young this past season and had more talent at offense.
  23. If we ignore Young's ability to improvise, I still think he is better than Stroud. Young played in a pro-style offense, set protections, and called audibles. When I hear guys like JT O'Sullivan review Stroud's tape. The analysis is positive however he does give credit to Ryan Day in terms of having a great offensive infrastructure. Joe Klatt also list Stroud as #5 in his top 50 college players entering the draft. He too mentions that Ohio State has a great scheme. This isn't to say that Stroud is a horrible QB or throws to wide-open WRs. I think Bryce Young particularly in 2022 operated with less training wheels
  24. To provide some context - entering the National Championship game against Georgia John Metchie, Alabama's second leading receiver tore his ACL in the SEC championship game. Then their leading receiver, Jameson Williams tore his ACL on the opening drive of the second quarter against Georgia in the National championship game. At that point the game was tied 3-3 Williams had four catches for 65 yards and in the previous matchup against Georgia, Williams had 7 receptions 184 yards and 2 TDs. It's not to make an excuse for him but to give context heading into and during national title game
  25. For 2022 - I would watch his game against LSU or Texas 2021 against Auburn and then Georgia in the National Championship. With the Georgia game I would also watch his best game of his career against Georiga in SEC championship game
