A short Panther history and our new QB
ladypanther replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just the title???? -
So, in 2023, for the 2nd time in their short history, the Panthers took a QB with the 1st overall pick in the draft. Now this new Panther QB is a little feller but he is said to be a little feller with a big brain. Still, body size is a concern to many fans. The heart, soul, and legacy of this franchise is Sam Mills. Also a little feller who was told he could not make it in the NFL. He was a little feller with a big heart who defied all the odds and is and will always be revered by Panther fans.. Then there is Steve Smith...a vertically challenged WR with a big attitude...best receiver this team has had in its short history. So I see a pattern...little feller combined with a big something else. Now Bryce is a California kid who looks like he has eaten mostly weeds and seeds all his life.. Another recent Panther QB was also from California- the Panther/Rhule reclamation project Sam Darnold. Don't panic. There are different kinds of California kids. Sam talked of the beach and surfing. He has that surfer dude kind of brain. Have not heard Bryce or his family talk about the beach. Bryce must be more like that Silicon Valley kind of California kid with a brain like a computer that can process things at supersonic speeds that the rest of us cannot even begin to comprehend. The other QB the Panthers have drafted with the 1st overall pick in the draft was a very big feller with a big personality. He did well and was fun to watch. He could outrun guys and sometimes run over/through guys. But just like Goliath, being big did not protect him in the end. We all know that Tiger Woods was groomed from a very early age to be a champion golfer by his drill sergeant father. Well, Bryce's father started grooming him when he was a baby too, throwing him cloth footballs which he caught with amazing skill. Instead of being groomed in a military environment like Tiger, Bryce was raised to be a superstar by a therapist family(California remember) which has really helped him to cope with being a little feller all his life. So, not an issue and no big chip on his little shoulder. Remember Aesop's story about the lion and the mouse? A Lion lay asleep in the forest, his great head resting on his paws. A timid little Mouse came upon him unexpectedly, and in his fright and haste to get away, ran across the Lion's nose. Roused from his nap, the Lion laid his huge paw angrily on the tiny creature to kill him. "Spare me!" begged the poor Mouse. "Please let me go and some day I will surely repay you." The Lion was much amused to think that a Mouse could ever help him. But he was generous and finally let the Mouse go. Some days later, while stalking his prey in the forest, the Lion was caught in the toils of a hunter's net. Unable to free himself, he filled the forest with his angry roaring. The Mouse knew the voice and quickly found the Lion struggling in the net. Running to one of the great ropes that bound him, he gnawed it until it parted, and soon the Lion was free. "You laughed when I said I would repay you," said the Mouse. "Now you see that even a Mouse can help a Lion." Well, that little mouse feller used his quick thinking to get out of a bad situation and then later showed the lion that his brain was a better weapon than the lion's huge size. Now at the beginning of that story Vegas odds would not have been looking good for the mouse. Today Panther fans................ it is time for us to bet on the mouse. So, Ladies and Gentlemen, in conclusion, this is where this Panther history short story now comes full circle: ****The Wizard gave Sam Mills a big heart, gave Smitty a big attitude, and gave Bryce a big brain. I predict the results will be HUGE.**** GO PANTHERS! KEEP POUNDING!

@Mr. Scot...thought I would see you here by now with a comment by LCF. -
I wanted a TE....but one who could possibly be a stud for the future. Not going to find one now. Maybe next year. For now...we roll with what we have. At least we did an upgrade with Hurst.

Fitt said they would pick up some additions later and mentioned waiting on cuts. Here is a link to the current veteran free agents: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/available/

Mike Kaye explains DJ Johnson pick
ladypanther replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I liked his statement about it when asked yesterday. He made no excuses and learned from the experience. Reich also addressed it, saying they had spoken with him about it. This is what the oregon HC said about the incident: “You realize that DJ was in a moment there in which he certainly wishes he would’ve acted different, but something was said that was pretty extreme to him that some people might act in a similar fashion,” Lanning stated. “I certainly don’t condone the behavior,” the coach continued. “I know DJ wishes he could have that moment back. It’s an intense situation, but those things happen at times, and I know that he would handle it different if given the opportunity.” -

Mike Kaye explains DJ Johnson pick

Most people had been loving the new staff. Now a lot of people seem to think they are incompetent. Going to trust their eval. Remember the last time the Panthers had a "freak of nature" on the D? Evero sees something in this guy. Last year's Denver defensive players loved Evero...said he made everyone better. I am excited to see what he can do with our newest "freak". -
