https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nc/charlotte/news/2023/05/11/crime-fighting-cows-lead-cops-to-suspect-near-boone A traffic stop led to a police chase in Boone, North Carolina, Tuesday. But when the suspect ditched his car and hid out in a field, he didn't expect to get busted by a bunch of bovines. "The suspect abandoned his vehicle in the area of U.S. Hwy 421 and U.S. Hwy 221 in Deep Gap and fled into an undeveloped area," Boone police said. "Due to the suspect’s fast and reckless driving our officers were not close enough to see exactly where the suspect ran." "As officers began to search the area, they received some unexpected, but welcomed assistance from some local cows. The cows literally led the officers to where the suspect was hiding," police said. After the cows ratted him out, Minton was charged with felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct and driving with a revoked license. "In addition to thanking our officers and deputies for putting themselves in harm’s way; obviously, we want to express our gratitude to the cows for their assistance," the police department said.

From the Washington Post. Asheville getting some national love. https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/tips/asheville-best-restaurants-guide/ .......... the culinary renaissance happening in Asheville today. The city has award-winning restaurants sitting just blocks apart and homegrown chefs making national headlines. The local tourism board has leaned in and nicknamed the town “Foodtopia,” and they’re not wrong. At last year’s James Beard Awards, two of the town’s restaurants earned top prizes. Yelp recently named Asheville the top Foodie City in the U.S. There must be something in that delicious spring water, because Asheville is now a can’t-miss travel destination for anyone who loves to dine out. -Shrimp and grits is an almost mandatory dish on menus across the South, especially in the Carolinas, but there’s a big difference between a good version and a mediocre one. Chef Robert Alexander’s take at Benne on Eagle is not just good but excellent. Located on the ground floor of the Foundry Hotel, the restaurant highlights Asheville’s African American history in a mural of the historically Black area called “The Block” and an emphasis on the flavors of America’s Black foodways. Alexander, who took over the kitchen last July, adds andouille sausage to grits, lending the dish a smoky flavor that pairs well with a mimosa. -The most outstanding restaurant in America, according to the James Beard Foundation, is an Indian street-snack spot in Asheville. Chai Pani is dripping in orange marigolds and inspired by the chaat shops that make up a typical Indian street food scene. The kitchen, helmed by five-time James Beard nominated chef Meherwan Irani, excels at weaving together texture and spice. That forte is exemplified by dishes like sev potato dahi puri, little puff balls filled with yogurt and chutneys, and side plates like lime-seasoned crunchy matchstick okra fries. As an added bonus, you can purchase herbs and spices from Irani’s Spicewalla brand to take home, like garam masala or chai-spiced hot chocolate. -The 17-seat Neng Jr.’s is hidden up a stairway in what locals refer to as “walkable West Asheville,” offering a delightful, quirky escape from the stuffiness of a typical fine-dining experience. The tiny restaurant has grabbed foodies’ attention since opening last year: Eater named it last year’s Best New Carolinas Restaurant, and Esquire Magazine called it one of the best new restaurants in the country. Chef Silver Iocovozzi draws inspiration from their Filipina mother, as tasted in dishes like Filipino spring rolls called lumpia or creamy, fire-roasted Chinese eggplant. Their partner, Cherry Iocovozzi, is the restaurant’s remarkably proficient server, patiently interpreting the beguiling menu for guests and guiding diners toward standout cocktails like the pandan daiquiri or the adobo martini. - Cúrate. This sprawling tapas bar located in the thick of things in Asheville is hard to miss, thanks to the buzz around the door for hard-to-snag reservations. The clambering is thanks to upscale Spanish plates crafted under the leadership of entrepreneur and chef Katie Button, such as skewers of anchovies, calatrava olives and Spanish piparra peppers, or bits of eggplant fried and sweetened that taste like funnel cake. The wait staff helps pair dishes with sparkling sangrias and hard-to-find sherries from Andalusia, leading the restaurant to win the coveted outstanding hospitality prize at the James Beard Awards last year. -If your idea of happy hour involves clinking ice cubes while dancing around a vintage record player, (think “Mad Men”) then Session bar at Citizen Vinyl is probably your heaven. The small bar is located inside one of the few remaining record presses in operation in America, which itself is located inside the building that once housed the area’s newspaper. Take a free tour of the record press, shop the racks, and then pick up a craft cocktail at Session, which Esquire magazine has named one of the best bars in the country. The bar isn’t open late, so come by for a lunch. The menu changes but you’ll find dishes like pork sliders, smoked rainbow trout or French dip sandwiches, and a coffee-infused creation, like the cafecito, which combines cappuccino foam with rye and mole bitters. -This part of North Carolina is known for its breweries and its summer camps, and those worlds collide over the wooden decks of a defunct camp, now known as Forestry Camp. The restaurant inside Burial Beer Company’s taproom is located on the southeastern edge of Asheville, near the famous Biltmore Mansion. There, spicy Korean gochujang-glazed chicken wings and standout french fries accompany craft beer in a kid-friendly setting.

At this point I just have to trust the coaches and the FO. We have the best coaching staff this team has ever had and it includes 2 ppl who played the position for a long time. Their evaluation process was thorough and deliberate. if Bryce is their guy that is good enough for me and I am ready to move forward. I also hope he (Bryce) and the Panthers shock the NFL this year. Just be happy.

One positive note about his size....might be tough for the opposing D to keep track of him....he can get lost behind the big Oline dudes.

Good for him. And good for his mother!

NFL legend Tom Brady is in deep discussions to become a limited partner of the Las Vegas Raiders, sources told ESPN -- potentially his second foray into a partnership with Raiders owner Mark Davis on a professional sports franchise in less than two months. Discussions between the two sides have been going on for weeks and could soon be reaching a resolution, yet sources say it's still an extremely sensitive and fluid negotiation. Brady's investment is expected to be "passive," a source with direct knowledge of the situation says, and he would not have any operational control or authority over the club in business or football matters. It's believed that Brady's 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox, which is due to start in 2024, would be unaffected by an investment in the Raiders. A source told ESPN that Fox has "blessed" the arrangement. Sources said that league policy about team ownership overlapping with media employment comes into play only if the owner holds a position of authority at the media company and could impact broadcast rights negotiations. Fox and the NFL agreed to an 11-year rights deal in 2021. This is not the first time the seven-time Super Bowl champion has shown interest in owning a minority stake in an NFL franchise. In 2021 and 2022, Brady reportedly had discussions with the Miami Dolphins about becoming a limited partner. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/37610959/sources-tom-brady-talks-become-limited-partner-raiders

TYVM...I started swimming a year ago in March after controlling a medical condition I previously did not know I had that was zapping my energy (Celiac disease). When I 1st started swimming I could not go a full lap. My goal was to be doing something in the pool for 30 min. I have had a couple of setbacks...a rotator cuff strain and knee strain (known as swimmer's knee). Worked on strengthening those areas, learned to use better technique and be patient. As they say...1 step at a time.

Dang.. I guess we made a huge mistake?

There are other "cast off" head coaches who have done well in their next opportunity. And I think it is a widely held opinion that replacing Reich with Jeff Saturday was Irsay insanity. Reich has assembled an amazing staff...got to be the best staff this team has ever had. There is a lot of reason for optimism IMHO.- 83 replies

Looking for a good home for this little guy ....now resolved

I went to visit little Eli today. He is doing great. They got him a puppy buddy and I played with them both. He is doing so well they are going to take him to an adoption event Sat. They need volunteers to spend time with the animals and walk them. No schedule...just come when you can. I am going to try to do at least a couple times per week. -
I alternate laps freestyle and backstroke. The latter is really good for the back muscles which I really needed. 45 min is good. When you start back don't do too much ...build up gradually. I learned that the hard way. Realized I've got nothing but time. I swim M-W-F. Do the treadmill (which I hate) and a couple of other things T-X.

I am slow. I avg a min a lap.

Called Friends for Animals yesterday...they said they were full. Animal Services is closed in Mondays. I decided a visit was better than a phone call, so I just showed up there with him today. When I first found him Sat..you could tell he had been abused..he was afraid of me.* By Sunday night I could pet him...Monday morning he was on my lap. I put him in a crate to transport him and put him on the seat beside me. He was fine. When we went in and he heard other voices, he was terrified. There were 2 workers at the front, and when I went to take him out of the crate he started yelping very loudly like someone was beating him. (We had to take the crate apart to get him out.) I think the entire staff came running from the back....including one who I think was the director. I gave her a brief run down...she immediately said we will take him. Said they would foster him first to help him get socialized. Said she would give him some vaccines now. Really liked her! That place has changed so much with the new management. I was already in love with that little pup and wished I could have kept him. Appreciate the help from Animal Services and will try to do something nice for them in the future. *Anyone who would abuse a puppy like that..I mean 8 weeks old??? Nothing but cuteness. That person is an absolutely horrible person.
