To be fair..I don;t think it has been said that only the Panthers could "fix" Trubisky.

I bet he would do well there, although of course, I would love to keep him in Carolina. Understand that is not likely.

A sidenote 1st: https://theathletic.com/2436889/2021/03/09/big-questions-remain-as-nfl-begins-countdown-to-free-agency-crapshoot/ “The top guys are going to get paid, but the middle class is going to be squeezed quite a bit,” an NFL agent told The Athletic. “I really feel for those guys. For a lot of them, just to be on a roster next year they’re going to have to take a sizable pay cut.” After conversations with agents and team officials in recent days, what’s clear is that next week could be the most unpredictable free agency period in recent memory. This is a bad year to be a mid-tier NFL veteran, the type of player who has advanced beyond his rookie contract but might not have a long-term deal with high guarantees to ensure some measure of job security. These are the type of players who make up the bulk of NFL rosters, and several agents told The Athletic they fear a depressed market for this class of more experienced players. https://theathletic.com/2431491/2021/03/09/ranking-nfl-free-agencys-top-150-players-with-possible-price-tags/ 10. Taylor Moton, OT, Carolina Panthers (27) There’s a lot to like about Moton. He’s never missed a game and has been a rock-solid right tackle for Carolina. Ja’Wuan James got a four-year, $51 million deal with the Broncos in 2019, and Jack Conklin signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the Browns last offseason. Moton will likely be looking to get a deal in that range if the Panthers don’t use the franchise tag on him. 30. Curtis Samuel, WR, Carolina Panthers (25) Coaches often fall in love with players like Samuel, who can offer speed and versatility. Samuel set career highs with 77 catches for 851 yards in 2020, and he was much more efficient than he had been previously, catching 79.4 percent of his targets. The Panthers used Samuel as a ballcarrier, too — he had 41 carries for 200 yards. With the right offensive coach, Samuel is a really fun player. With the wrong one, he could be a bust. But he produced his career season at the perfect time to get paid.

https://theathletic.com/2432260/2021/03/09/2021-nfl-mock-draft-bruce-feldman-coaching-insider-first-round-picks/ 8. Carolina Panthers: Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State If the Falcons take Lance instead of Fields, I think the Buckeyes quarterback would end up here, but I don’t think Atlanta passes on Fields. Lance’s rise was one of the more fascinating stories in college football the past year — of a Minnesota native who Big Ten schools barely looked at and was viewed as a safety or linebacker prospect. Lance ended up at FCS powerhouse North Dakota State and put together a remarkable first season, with a staggering 28-to-0 TD-to-INT margin while helping the Bison achieve the first 16-0 finish in college football since 1894. Lance only got to play one game in 2020 and threw his first pick in a win over Central Arkansas. The Coaching Intel “On film, you don’t realize how big he is because he is so athletic. He was much bigger than we thought he was. That size, athleticism and arm are so rare at this level. He broke some runs on us where he’d break tackles, push the pile. One play, we had one of the best athletes we had come free on a blitz, and he makes him miss and throws a perfect ball on a dig to pick up the first down. “I think the one thing people can question is how well is he as a true pocket QB? When they played that game (vs. Central Arkansas) in 2020, he struggled some, and you wanted him trying to impress people. Was he pressing? Are they running a different system for this game?” “This kid is whole other-level special. He has all the physical tools. Nothing phases him, and I think he’s a fierce competitor. He finds ways to make plays. He’s a big, strong kid who is hard to tackle and can make you miss in space. He’s extremely well-coached. You never saw just bad throws; most of them were where his guys are getting it right in stride. “We’d go into it thinking what else can we do after other stuff we did didn’t work? We thought we’d trick him, and then he’d figure it out and throw a strike for a 12-yard catch on third down.”

Interesting tidbit: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30986204/with-contract-hand-dallas-cowboys-quarterback-dak-prescott-deliver The Cowboys selected Prescott in the fourth round of the 2016 draft. He wasn't even their first pick in the fourth round as a compensatory pick, No. 135 overall. And he wasn't even their first choice. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was crushed he could not trade back into the first round to take Paxton Lynch. They wanted Connor Cook in the fourth round. They settled for Prescott and got lucky. Really lucky.

Dan Snyder...what should they do with him

I think he should get the JR treatment Here's the latest: https://www.radio.com/thefandc/sports/washington-football-team/forcing-dan-snyder-to-sell-washington-football-team-among-options-from-beth-wilkinson Beth Wilkinson, the attorney conducting the NFL's investigation into the Washington Football Team's workplace culture, has presented multiple options for punishment in her report as her investigation winds down. The first and foremost option is to "force the owner to divest his ownership of the team," according to The Sports Junkies of 106.7 The Fan, who have obtained documents related to Wilkinson's investigation. Washington owner Dan Snyder appears to be directly in Wilkinson's crosshairs, to varying degrees based the options she's presented. The second option, Sports Junkies host Eric Bickel says, is: 'Suspend the owner for a significant period to allow the club time to repair its infrastructure and culture.' "And by the way," Bickel added. "That appears to be what they've been trying to do for the last several months. They brought Julie [Donaldson] in. They brought Jason Wright in. Wholesale changes." These options come as a result of Wilkinson's belief in the coverup that Snyder tried to orchestrate and the perceived "lack of integrity throughout the internal investigations," according to Jason Bishop of The Sports Junkies. "She was recommending this to Goodell mainly because of the coverup and lack of integrity throughout the internal investigations," Bishop said. "Apparently he was trying to persuade or instruct other employees not to talk to Wilkinson's firm about what they were investigating. So there was the coverup right there. And once she reported back to Goodell that this was happening, that's why she's recommending he needs to go, because of the coverup."

Chris Simms Just Released his 2021 QB Rankings
ladypanther replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
https://www.golfdigest.com/story/chris-simms-kellen-mond-justin-fields-nfl-draft-quarterback-rankings Does not like the rankings. We’ve covered Chris Simms’ lists before. Say what you want about his football IQ (or lack thereof), but the man is VERY bad at making lists. If he were Santa Claus, the bullies would get PS5s and the nice, quiet kids a lump of toxic coal. When he goes to the grocery store for milk and eggs, he comes back with three bags of brown rice, one jackfruit, and squid ink. His weekend to-do list only has one item on it: “Burn my own house to the ground.” That’s how bad this dude is at lists. But if you needed even more evidence, Simms happily obliged on Wednesday, dropping this absolute dud into the ravenous internet feeding pen. So please, someone—ANYONE—over at NBC Sports, keep Simms away from the list machine. Let him have the graphs and the charts. Hell, even a venn diagram or two. But for the good football—FOR THE GOOD OF AMERICA—we beg you: No. More. Lists. -
https://nfldraft.theringer.com/mock-draft 8 MICAH PARSONS LINEBACKER PENN STATE YEAR JUNIOR AGE 21 HEIGHT 6'3" WEIGHT 245 SHADES OF: JAYLON SMITH Carolina Panthers 2019 STATS Based on 13 games played Tackles 109TKLS Tackles For Loss 14TFL Sacks 5SACKS CAROLINA PANTHERS The Panthers are frequently linked to quarterbacks at this spot but with Lawrence, Wilson, and Fields all off the board, they look to another position with this pick. Parsons makes for an early-impact choice, an überathletic playmaker who could team up with Shaq Thompson and 2020 rookie breakout Jeremy Chinn to patrol the second level of the Panthers defense.

That is terrible news. I hope the young girl has not lost cognitive function as well. Very tragic for that family. -
I thought that NO had already restructured his contract. Thinking was to lessen retirement hit. https://www.nfl.com/news/saints-renegotiate-qb-drew-brees-contract-frees-up-cap-space-in-2021 As the world continues to wait for an update on Drew Brees, the Saints made an important move regarding the veteran's contract. New Orleans renegotiated Brees' contract to drop his base salary in 2021 to the minimum, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Friday, per an informed source. The club can now keep him on the roster past June 1 while drastically reducing his 2021 cap hit. Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap first reported the news. Pelissero noted that the Saints will now carry a roughly $12 million cap charge for Brees, rather than the $36 million-plus it would've initially cost the team. An additional $11.5 million would hit the cap in 2022, he added. The move frees up about $24 million for the Saints which will be crucial in an offseason where many teams will be cap-strapped. It's been expected for months that the 41-year-old will eventually announce his retirement. In the meantime, Brees, who is no stranger to restructuring his contract for his team's benefit, made sure to do the Saints one more solid by spreading the cap impact should he decide to call it quits.

IIRC he was injured some last year. Hopefully the year off helped him with that. Looks like he kept in shape. I am hoping to see some good things from him with this coaching staff.

Frank Okam promoted to DL Coach, assistant Pot Roast added
ladypanther replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Coaching career[edit] Rice University[edit] In 2014, Okam began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Rice University. In his 1st season working with the defensive line, Rice's defensive line broke the school record for most sacks in a season. Led by Zack Patt and Brian Nordstrom who finished 3rd and 4th respectively on Rice's single season sack list. Brian Nordstrom garnered 1st team All C-USA honors as well as finishing the season as the C-USA TFL leader. Patt set a school record 5 sacks and 3 FF in a game vs FIU and was National Player of the Week. Rice broke the record during the 2014 Hawai'i Bowl vs Fresno State. In 2016, he was promoted to defensive line coach. In 2017, Rice's defensive line was one of the top in C-USA. Roe Wilkins led all interior C-USA lineman with 6.5 sacks. That would put him 10th all time on Rice's single season sack list. Brian Womac earned 1st team All C-USA honors and led the team with 10 sacks and broke the school record with 22 TFLs. Womac's 10 sacks are second all time on Rice's single season sack list. Womac signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Rams following his 2017 season. Baylor University[edit] In 2018, Okam was hired as the defensive line coach at Baylor University. During the 2018 season, Baylor's Defensive Line improved and seniors, Ira Lewis and Greg Roberts signed as free agents and made NFL rosters the next season playing for the Houston Texans and the Green Bay Packers, respectively. In 2019, Baylor had one of the top defensive line's in the country. Okam was up for the Football Scoop Defensive Line Coach of the Year Honors. Under Okam's tutelage, and led by James Lynch and Bravvion Roy, Baylor's defensive line broke the school's sack record with 46 sacks. They also led the country with 23 sacks while only rushing 3 defensive lineman. Roy made 61 tackles including 13 tackles-for-loss, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, seven QB hurries, and one blocked kick. He was named to the first-team All-Big 12. Roy was selected in the 6th round of the 2020 NFL Draft to the Carolina Panthers. Lynch was named preseason first team All-Big 12 and to the Chuck Bednarik Award watchlist entering his junior season. Lynch was named first team All-Big 12, the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year, the conference Defensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous All-America selection after finishing the regular season with 41 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and a conference-high 13.5 sacks along with three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, five passes defended and two blocked kicks. Lynch’s 13.5 sacks broke a Baylor school record. Lynch was selected in the 4th round of the 2020 NFL Draft to the Minnesota Vikings. Carolina Panthers[edit] On January 20, 2020, Okam was hired by the Carolina Panthers as their assistant defensive line coach, reuniting with head coach Matt Rhule. During the 2020 Season, Okam helped tutor 1st round pick Derrick Brown, 2nd round pick Yetur Gross-Matos, and 6th round pick Bravvion Roy. Several Panther defensive lineman recorded career years in sack production including Brian Burns, Efe Obada, and Marquis Haynes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Okam -
That is very impressive!
