I also pointed out to him, Cam and the Panthers have been dealing with the same team/offense all year. The Hawks, have had dramatic change during the season, due to injury. So your argument regarding teams and tapes are somewhat valid. Early in the season, Russell was doing the Hamster drill and they struggled. During most of his hot streak, he was getting rid of the ball quickly in response. Lately, he's been back to the scramble drill. So you wonder if that has something to do with teams making adjustments? And if so, will the scramble drill continue to have the Jesus water in the playoff's (as Wilson really didn't throw much during their previous playoff runs). We'll see?
-
The difference being: Newton's played with essentially the same team all year. Wilson and his Hawks, have had major dramatic changes on the field during the year. So, what he said may be a more valid argument (though I get what you were saying).

Every body likes to call Cam different. However, Wilson's more DIFFERENT when it comes to the actual business of being a QB than Newton. Newton's, a pure pocket passer, who has no desire to leave the pocket unless he has to (or a play is called). He basically just sits back there looking calm, cool and collected. This has been proven from the start. And both Rivera and Shula have discussed this ad nauseam. However, Wilson's a scrambler at his best, inner desire. I watch Seattle games sometimes, and get dizzy the amount of times he runs away to by time (or see through the defense), then chuck a floater on the run or to a wide open receiver. I give him credit for that. However, due to his height issues, he has to run, or the Hawks scheme around it (quick hitter, as they been doing lately during most of his torrid streak). No one can deny, most of Wilson's TD's are on scrambles, quick passes, and defensive break downs. Just look at both he and Cam's TD totals in and out the pocket for reference (and even some of his "pocket TD's" are most one read, quick strikes).
-
Wow Seattle's HALF the percentage of Carolina's. That's telling. And we know, at least 5, 6, 7 of Newton's drops were wide open, big yardage, sure TD passes (mostly, but not limited to Ted Ginn).
-
No one's being a dick. As I said; you were the one who brought up QB's, Wilson in the Superbowl. Now you get it. LOL As I said. Win your playoff game first. You're getting way ahead of yourself.
-
Huh? So those first 6-8 games, when Wilson was running around like a frenzied chicken-holding on to the ball too long (as many Seattle fans criticized him for), and eventually getting sacked-contributing to 4-5 of your 6 losses, didn't help determine why Wilson's not MVP? He'll be lucky if he's even 4th in the MVP voting on a 6 loss team. Remember, he contributed to most of those losses (albeit helped with their streak, with better offensive scheming). Yes the offensive line and scheme wasn't good early. However, Wilson just doesn't read defenses very well. So in response, that had him get rid of the ball quick, and voila this incredible TD streak he's been on recently transpired (though he's been back to his scramble drill antics the past few games).

You keep accusing other of being defensive, while you're the one arguing with us on this site over nonsense. The other stuff you said, not even worth responding. And please don't bring up QB's in the playoff's. 1) During Wilson's first Superbowl win, he was a total bystander, as the Hawks defense scored 20+ pts before the offense scored one (and the latter stat padding). Remember, A defensive player won Superbowl MVP, not Wilson....Let that sink in for a moment. 2) During the second Superbowl, he threw a game losing INT in the closing seconds. Let that sink in as well. Nonetheless, congrats on the Superbowl win. Nice!

Huh!? This thread's made in response to that stupid Cam Newton 'Vote for Carson Palmer' Begathon article. Right? And you're here; on this site, trying to defend 'I don't know what', while calling others defensive? You crack me up Twinkie! Keep up the comedy. LOL
-
LOL Your fear and insecurities are showing. Leave it alone. More importantly: Carolina's guaranteed to play Jan 17; Seattle's not. Go win your game first. Then comeback and Talk Mess, if you'd like!? Cause we know you will suddenly vanish like Amelia Earhart (look her up if you don't know) if the Seahawks lose. Remember, 5 degree weather awaits your team in Minnesota.
-
You should go to the Seattle boards and police them apparently. Cause all you see here, is people responding to the ridiculousness of posted article, specifically ABOUT CAM NEWTON on one of those sites. However, you wanna come here and try to police, whine and opine about what's written in response!?? GTFO with that (respectfully of course). Have some perspective.
-
In fairness: This year he is. You may have been able to say that the past three seasons. But he's earned that moniker IMO.
-
Yeah, those Seattle fans really rely on Metrics a lot don't they? They tells us one or two things: 1) They either know Wilson's not up to par via the eye test. So instead they differ to stats. 2) They truly don't know or understand how to watch a player, scheme and their effect and impact. So in turn, they talk about stats (when it suits them), cause it's the only thing they apparently know. These are the same guys, that now want us to believe RW's the best QB in the NFL (and has been since he's entered it). This is despite the fact, he still tries to get the ball out in less than 2 secs to a predetermined receiver (ala Kaep with Harbaugh). And if he can't. He turns it into a Scramble drill, cause he can't see over, and properly read defenses. Give credit, where credit is due. But I guess when you're a douche-bag Band wagoner, such trifles are not considered. Shrugs.

I remember, when a Buffalo fan asked their GM at the time about Newton's "troubles" and question marks, etc..; around the draft. And the GM responded (paraphrase) 'Newton's fine. And if the Panthers don't draft him, we would. But he was the #1 pick for sure'. However, folks who were listening to the fantasy laden, hate filled media and faux draft experts were repeating what they were saying. Meanwhile, NFL people had a lot less questions about Cam, and most in the media just ignored it. I saw some of those draft reports (the real or fair ones), and they were glowing in their reports on Cam in almost all phases, especially on his background checks.
-
In fairness: You can say that about many draft picks. Nonetheless, as I've said numerous times here. Contrary to popular belief. Newton was the consensus #1 pick 1 month before the draft with NFL people. Problem is: Most people (including here on The Huddle), only listened to media people and Faux "Draft experts", who overtly tainted their opinions-besides their own biases-of Newton. So they find this incredulous to believe now somehow. Ron Ron and his staff did themselves, and/or read all the necessary research (film-throw/run breakdowns, interviews, deep background checks, etc...) as the NFL draft pool scouts. Therefore, they had a lot less question marks regarding Newton as many media and fans did (Think Jameis Winton, and all his troubles, while still a #1 pick). And before you say it, since I mentioned Winston. The Panthers saw through film break down that Newton could make every NFL throw; while his offense wasn't as simple as many claimed. And through both film review and interviews, the Panthers knew Newton rarely ran on his own. So he was clearly committed to sitting in the pocket (contrary to what most media were saying at the time). No one in the media was talking about Real NFL stuff. It was all in their mind and hearts. Not surprisingly, many folks on sites like this, just repeated what they heard from dumb media.
-
Unfortunately, I would say 80% of football fans (and many in the media) can't judge talent, and/or have no ideas what's happening on the field, and how players fit into the whole scheme, and what they're doing. But I hear ya!
-
For those salty Seattle fans, who hate the fact the diminutive Wilson can't run in as many TD's compared to Cam. We must remember, Olsen (several times), Philly, and other Panther receivers were tackled on the one yard line after long runs. So it's only fitting in some ways that Newton was able to run those in. Cause in reality they should have been passing TD's. So good for Cam or Shula.
-
I think Newton's passing alone (35 TD's, #1 offense, 3800+ yards on 15-1 team) are enough, makes him an MVP candidate IMO. We don't even have to go to the running stuff. We must remember. If not for numerous drops, bad weather games, catches tackled on the 1 yd line, and Rivera applying the brakes during big leads/pulling Cam early (which many teams don't do). Newton would have well over 4000 yards, 40+ passing TD's, and a higher completion percentage. So he is MVP worthy on his passing alone. It was the bad weather games and receivers which "dragged his stats down (if we'd like to label it such a thing)". And he still ended up with the #1 offense, and leading TD stats. And we can't forget he's doing this all with very average receivers, and a rehabbed, parts bin Offensive line. So he's MVP alone on his passing yes. However, the running stuff Jeremy's citing just makes it otherworldly (even though Cam didn't run as much the 2nd half). And this is why he may be a unanimous MVP.
-
And how many losses (with his fans-rightfully so-blaming him for holding on to the ball too long)????
-
Newton, won most NFL Fantasy leagues FWIW.
-
Ssshhhhhh Seattle fans, want you to believe Russell's been The Straw That Stirs The Drink in Seattle from Day one!!!
-
Yup Yup This, and the rest of your points! Been saying this for years-from day one (though you got to give him credit for surviving, compared to Kaep and RG3). But you are right. Wilson struggled earlier this year when they tried to turn him into a pocket passer. Unfortunately, he held on to the ball too long, and/or ran too often; thus the plays broke down unsuccessfully all too often. So the Hawks went back to his first two years calling card. This was getting rid of the ball quick (as you stated); essentially making him a one read QB. Once that 1st read is gone, he starts strutting around like a wild chicken, cause he can't see over the defense or properly read it. To his credit: He made a lot of those quick throws TD's count during his recent hot streak from the pocket (so didn't have to run). For this, the media said he was "throwing from the pocket (albeit with mostly one read/quick throw)". However, he's been back to his blind Hamster, scramble drill act the past few games, throwing short floaters on the run for cheap TD's. Wilson's, not the patient QB that calmly looks over the defense and picks you apart or throws downfield (or even peeks through cracks and lanes from the pocket-like the 5'11" Brees). No he's not. Most of Wilson's success is due to quick hitters, broken plays and scramble drill. That's it! Wilson, doesn't even make adjustments at the line; unless this has changed? His center does that (the one who used to do it, left the team). As you said; they scheme him very well most times. And they don't ask him to drop back and read defenses on a repeated basis. This is why Seattle fans, when discussing Wilson (especially against Cam) will always bring up stats and numbers; no matter how nebulous vs actual evaluation and observation. This is because, Wilson doesn't pass the eye test (though he's still good at what he does). And then of course, their large base of Numb Nuts fans don't know; are incapable, or couldn't care less about any of this. But hey! Russell's been successful with it. Gotta give him credit for that. Which many do! Nonetheless, he's faaaaaar from a pocket QB. Never has been. When the team was losing, this was clearly pointed out. And this should all eventually catch up with him IMO.
-
Yup I especially love when they dismiss Cam's early season (even though at one point he had 7TD-2 INT's), when Wilson was much worse, and Seahawk fans were being highly critical of Wilsons play. Meanwhile Cam was touted an MVP candidate by Panther fans, media and close observers from day one. And everyone was aware of the numerous bad weather games, drops, and misfortune Cam experienced (dragging down his stats), while still managing to pull games out. So now that Seahawk fans think Wilson's in the running for MVP (or don't), now they criticized Newtons first few games as below standard. Talk about misguided hubris, irrational thinking, and idiocy.

Top 3 Reasons The Panthers Lost Today
FootballMaestro replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Some of us actually did see this game as the one the panthers would most likely lose, if they're were going to lose one ( because of most, or everything you mentioned). -
Because, too many so called experts, wanted to believe the Panthers were that laughable 7-8-1 Division winner last year. Instead of the team that finished 12-4 the year before; with Gettleman cleaning house; the Hardy Saga, and Cam's numerous injuries affecting their 2014 record. Such clowns.
