The question should be asked what does Tepper do at the end of the season if Fields keeps trending up and meanwhile we gave away 3 picks and 18 mill for the worst qb in the league when Tepper was known to want Justin? This is exactly it. Sam has to see it open before pulling the trigger. He has no feel for rhythm. The nfl is unbelievably fast. These are some of the best athletes in the world. A tenth of a second is the difference between a td and an int. Sam doesn’t have processing speed. No it’s time to throw or pocket breaking down. As soon as the pocket breaks down it ends the time. So scrambling is not assessed in this stat.

Pocket Time: Number of seconds the quarterback was in the pocket between the snap of the ball and a pass or the collapse of the pocket. It means he has the second longest average time. It’s actually not a bunch of bull. It’s two fold. The line IS giving him adequate time on avg compared to the rest of the league but he is incredibly indecisive and can’t process what is in front of him quickly enough so he holds the ball longer than he should. I don’t think I’ve seen him throw a wr open once this season. You guys see dlineman run free to him and freak out but that happens to every qb every game. It’s not to say that the line is good. They’re not. Qbs are just better at reading and reacting. Darnold is deer in the headlights football dumb. And we don’t even stretch the field with him. Which I thought was something he would bring to the table with us.

If Darnold, a 4th year player, put up stats like this there would be posters in here wanting him to get an extension. this dude is a rookie and pushing the ball downfield with a trash oline and mediocre weapons. These takes are gonna get really bad if Justin keeps his current trajectory.

I think fields would look a ton better with a competent coaching staff. That staff there is abhorrent. Not saying he’d be lighting it up but the stats are misleading.

I don’t think anyone is really saying that in this thread. He made big time throws in big time moments. He’s shown those flashes in most of his games where you’re like wow he can be that guy. And he’s played a bit better every single game after that disastrous first start which I mostly blame on the coaches game plan. He’s in a terrible spot right now with the bears but I don’t think any fields supporter thought he was gonna come out and light the league up. That’s extremely rare. We got spoiled with Cam.

I guarantee you the ones who wanted fields would not have been doing that. I’d even wager the ones who wanted fields are the least reactionary of this fanbase. Not all but most.

He definitely has shown the flashes of what he can become. I think some people in this thread were spoiled by cam coming out first two games throwing 800 yards and a bunch of tds. Fields is progressing nicely. Exactly like you’d want to see from a rookie who is in a bad situation on top of that. Big time throws, mobile. im really afraid looking back we’re going to massively regret not taking him a couple of years from now unless we got a good one here over that time period. the decision to send a second and two other picks and pick up darnolds 18 mill 5th year option just compounds the frustration.

This has been talked about ad naseum with plenty of links and videos of former qbs and coaches. Sam doesn’t process what is on the field. Cant understand basics which limits what Brady can do.

No. But a competent qb would have us a winning record with this defense. If we want to compete for superbowls we need to upgrade the line as best we can and get an elite qb. Cam was an elite qb and could sometimes sneak us into the playoffs with shoddy oline olay and lack of weapons. the problem here is that many of you invested in Darnold being the guy, even after 3 games. You talked poo to others all off-season and the first three games when people were still wary of what they were seeing. When you were proven wrong that Darnold sucks you lashed out like toddlers blaming anyone else but Darnold himself. No that Darnold has gone full meltdown some of y’all are finally admitting he sucks. But with the caveat that Joe Brady sucks too lol. I’ve maintained we need to continue to upgrade the line but that a competent qb would have put us in a position to make the playoffs THIS year. Not compete for a championship or anything like that. Darnold is so fuging bad that he has single handedly ruined this season oline issues aside. He’s gonna get Brady fired because rhule will never admit they made a mistake shipping 3 picks for the worst starting qb in the league who has the 7th most pocket time out of 32 starting qbs.
