  1. The one thing I will say about Darnold is he’s gonna make poo exciting compared to teddy because he will push the ball downfield, often times when he shouldn’t. So I’m actually expecting DJ to put up monster stats. But this dude turns the ball over so fuging much and throws into triple coverage when he should just throw it away. He’s a mess but he’ll make throws where you’ll say holy fug how did he do that. He just can’t put it all together.
  2. There were tons of us who knew exactly what we were getting when we signed Teddy. And that contract wtf man. I cannot stress how bad Darnold was with the Jets. I totally get circumstances, coaching and surrounding talent but I think the best case scenario for darnold here is just a step above teddy. So I’m totally down with taking a chance on Lance at 8. If it doesn’t work out, I get it. We swung and missed. I would like that we took a chance. But you HAVE to take that chance to be in a position to win a Super Bowl. The draft is a crapshoot ultimately.
  3. Darnold hasn’t cleared any hurdles. He’s a bust. He threw for 9 tds last year. That’s the worst of the worst man. Sorry but even if you’re surrounded by lack of talent a franchise qb can still put up better showings then that. That’s what we need to be striving for. Cam did it with shitty supporting cast for years. Those are the types of players we need to be looking for. These are all opinions. I am being objective, what darnold has shown in 3 years is not good and that’s putting it nicely. I would most definitely take the chance that Lance turns out as a franchise changing player then what darnold has shown in 3 years in the nfl. I don’t trust this coaching staff after teddy to make good decisions on qbs anymore. yes I would stay put and draft Lance if he fell to 8. That’s just what I would do. People really need to stop with Howell. Whoever has that number 1 pick is not trading it away.
  4. If we trade down while Lance is on the board then I’m gonna laugh my fuging ass off for eternity. sam Darnell isn’t gonna win us a Super Bowl. I’d take the chance on Lance being the guy at 8 then passing and hoping Darnell proves he’s something he’s never shown in 3 seasons.
  5. a top 3 pick in year 3 threw for 9 tds. That is a bust. I understand the thought process of the move but its the doubling down on these qb projects. We should’ve never been in this situation to begin with and that’s managements fault. We should’ve done a clean rebuild. So this is the choice that they’ve made and they have to live with it. That’s why 2023 they’re on the hot seat if they haven’t got a franchise qb. I’ll hope for the best when games start but I’m not expecting anything much from him. If they draft Lance or fields at 8 I’ll be pretty happy. But I’ll never be happy with picking up darnolds 5th year option when there was absolutely no reason to as it stands right now.
  6. This is the problem I have. This guy has played terrible. Threw 9 td passes last year. We picked up his fully guaranteed 5th year option. A second round pick and 23 million guaranteed for a top 5 bust. That’s bad business. It’s not smart. It’s a desperation move because teddy was so awful. That was another terrible move and we are doubling down. I get the guy has potential and a better arm but not at that price or draft pick. Now if fields or Lance drop to us at 8 and we take one I’m decent on this deal. But it still makes absolutely no fuging sense to pick up his 5th year option when we haven’t seen how he’s played in this system with these coaches. Every bit of cap matters in constructing your team, throwing away precious cap when we have to resign our core and hopefully sign FA to get a balanced team is just fuging stupid when you don’t have to do that. We continue to make wtf moves.
  7. I never said we should trade 3 1sts for Lance.
  8. A second and 18 million fully guaranteed fifth year option to a guy who threw 9 tds last year. Then the Teddy contract. Sorry but if you’re hedging your cap space and a high draft pick on these types of qbs when this league is a qb driven league then your ass should get fired if it doesn’t work out.
  9. Coaching and management. I’ll be ready for them to be fired if they don’t get this right. You can’t win without a franchise qb. And if darnold isn’t it then that’s two mistakes in a row that we’ve thrown draft capital and cap space on for shitty qbs. It’ll be red hot seat in 2023 for me.
  10. Yeah I have no idea who is to blame but 2020, especially in a covid year, should’ve been a tank job as much as possible. Get the cap right, sign one year deals, play Grier or Allen and work towards a push this year in 2021. Doesn’t mean tank the games but set yourself up the best possible way for the future with draft capital and cap space. Instead we’re gonna be stuck here for a loooooooong time. It’s like we freak out and get desperate all the fuging time. I was really looking forward to a slow burning rebuild with a top franchise qb pick that we build a solid team around but that ain’t happening. if Rhule and co. Don’t get a franchise qb they will be fired before their contract is up.
  11. Except there’s new management and coaching that traded darnold. Not the same as Robbie.
  12. Dude we picked up his what, 18 million 5th year option, without even seeing what this dude is gonna be like with our coaches and system? This franchise is fuging dumb as poo. No reason to freak out. I ain’t buying tickets or merch for this bullshit but I will laugh my ass off at this thread next year like I did reading the Teddy signing thread last year. Get ready for plenty of posts leading up to the season of why darnold doesn’t suck even though he only threw 9 td passes last year. But hey, Darnold has a better arm tho so there is that. Maybe he gets 20 tds this season.
  13. Tbh this fanbase deserves qb purgatory. I will sit back and laugh. No need to get upset over something we have zero control over. But the amount of cognitive dissonance by this fanbase truly makes this forum a must read.
  14. It keeps getting worse the more info that comes out
  15. Jesus if we pass on Lance because we just traded for a QB who threw 9 tds in one season then this entire staff needs to go.
  16. *Darnold throws for 9 tds in 2020* *panthers trade for 3 draft picks including a 2nd rounder* Dumb panther fans: I like this! Great move panthers yay! Go panthers!
  17. That’s all teddy had to do then right? qbs have to make plays in clutch situations. Can darnold be clutch? I don’t know but from everything I’ve read/watched the best we can hope for him is a glorified game manager. If we aren’t done at the qb position and still draft a guy at 8 I’ll be ok with this as sort of a backup plan/get rid of teddy situation. If we pass on a qb at 8 that is there I will not be ok with this. If teddy is still here I will not be ok with this. giving up a second, especially one that could be in the top 10 again is really stupid for the level of play we are getting. The panthers are desperate and desperate teams make desperate moves. This is what qb purgatory is all about.
  18. They actually do game plan around him already. DE’s/pass rushers usually need 3 or 4 seasons before it really starts clicking. That’s a general consensus. So you’re basically stating the obvious. I’m not sure anyone puts him in greatness territory yet. But Burns (along with Chinn) is the type of player you build defenses around. He is a massive building block for us. Barring injury/setback he’s gonna be a 15+ sack guy. Especially as the dline as a whole gets more experience with YGM and brown. He is extremely special.
  19. He just finished his second year. The fact he’s this productive already is scary.
