  1. "We just want to see him pick right up where he left off," Rivera said. "One of the things we did to help him, once he was healthy and ready to roll, was to institute a no huddle. He seemed to handle that well. Starting from where we finished, we'd like to see him hone that skill." ^^^^^Biggest takeaway. The question is will Shula allow it.
  2. I think we have to continue to go no huddle while in the redzone. I noticed that towards the end of the season that Shula finally stopped trying to go no huddle between the 20s only to slow the game down in the redzone. And continued to put his foot on the gas until it resulted in a TD.
  3. It is a great philosophy to have and has obviously led to a great number of super bowls. But Ron got the job, I am assuming, because he is known as a great defensive mind. It's like the Jets under Rex. Why were they constantly stacking up on the defense while their offense could use a complete and total make over? Isn't Rex supposed to be a genius guru? (No, I am not saying we are the Jets) If I hired Chip Kelly, I am not then going to load up on offense. You got the job because you could do more with less. Prove it. That is the only thing I really question about this specific approach we are taking.
  4. Gettlemen is entitled to build this team how he sees fit. He is the GM and it is his job, and no one else, that is on the line at the end of the day. I think there are any number of ways to build a team and be successful, including trying to build a strong defense to keep the scoring down in games. But this is personally not the way that I would have built the team around Newton... I would probably take the Colt's approach, and hire a Defensive Head Coach, make him prove his defensive genius, and then immediately try to load up on offensive talent and surround my No. 1 overall QB with everything he could ask for on his side of the ball...including some of his college coaches and teammates that he was successful with... But it is completely absurd that people cheer on our Front Office's approach in the off-season, and then complain about our lack of offensive production in-season...If you want your team to win in a shoot out with Aaron Rodgers in late October, you should have been crying about Cam Newton having as a No. 1 WR a rookie in late May. Otherwise you need to blame the Front Office for not giving the Panthers a defense that could stop the Packer's offense.
  5. I would go with Vikings, Rams, Seattle, Raiders, Philly, Titans, Ravens? Although the Seahawks recently tried to upgrade that unit with Harvin... But yeah, the Panthers WRs core is easily a bottom 10 group...And we of course is lead by a late 1st round rookie... But not quite bottom 5.
  6. Let the Panthers go 7-8-1 in the exact same manner, only this time the Falcons go 9-7 and 7-8-1 be not quite good enough to make the post-season. How much you wanna bet those "optimistic" posters will be creating 95 threads a day blaming the players? Specifically one player.
  7. Because UF defense is one of the best defenses in the Nation? Because Louisville defense was also one of the best in the Nation? In the context of the NFL, Manning throws 4 picks in some playoff games...should we now conclude that he is not polished NFL QB? There are many reasons why one could throw a lot of picks in a game or season...it could be because one is not a very polished QB...it could be one of a thousand other reasons...including bad decision making from the QB, WR not being on the same page, offensive line giving up pressure...etc. Aren't you taking up for both Ryan and Manning? And no matter how many times you want to assert that Ryan was "much more polished" coming out of BC doesn't make it true. The very premise that you are using...Weak Conference and INTS...to assert that Winston is not a polished QB...applies to Ryan, a divisional opponent.
  8. BTW, yes I am bias...I graduated from FSU in 2008...but my point still stands. There are very few QBs more polished than Winston coming out of college in the history of the NFL draft...that is EVEN if you ignore the 2013 season and focus strictly on 2014.
  9. You're right, BC doesn't get five star QBs like Winston, who is simply better than any version of college Ryan. Winston 2014 >>> Ryan 2007 Yet nobody claimed that Ryan was not polished at that staged. Actually it was the exact opposite. Winston is a very polished QB...unless you don't think Manning or Ryan was polished...and you must think that only 2 QBs in the history of the NFL draft was polished. Then I can see your thinking. And LOL adding FSU was the National Champs...all that does is remind everyone of Winston's 2013 season which is not something that helps your "Winston is not a polished QB" assertion...
  10. 1. Ryan was playing in SAME ACC (an even worse one) 2. Ryan was a SENIOR 3. Ryan was throwing to 3 senior, a JR, and 2 SO...Winston had Greene 4. Winston played a Strength of Schedule that was 3.5x more difficult in 2014 than BC did in 2007 5. Despite that, Ryan's 127 RAT is markedly lower than Winston's 145 RAT... YET Ryan was considered a very polished QB. (And keep in mind this doesn't not even take into account Winston's first season...this all passed on their last year at their respective schools.)
  11. And Matt Ryan threw 19 as a senior in the ACC...your point? Manning threw 26 his rookie year...your point? Just because you throw INTS doesn't mean you are not polished.
  12. No. Trust me, it will. Once I start, a whole sh*t storm is likely to ensue. Safe to say they post here often and 2 of them have very, very high post counts.
  13. No, I don't mean to imply that they are not Huddlers who are consistent in their approach... There are... They understand that the way the Panthers are built lends itself to a lot of 10-14 type games and don't complain about the offense not being able to keep up with Aaron Rodgers, or hanging 40 on the Seahawks... But there is a vocal group of Huddlers who love to create threads critical of Newton and the offense in-season, while claiming Newton and the offense have more than enough talent in the off-season, and therefore we should be trying to draft the next Warren Sapp.
  14. I am thinking of 4 Huddlers right off the top of my head...but in the interest of not getting banned, I declined to be more specific. But all you need to do is go back to September-November (sometimes as early as the preseason, and as late as January when we are in the playoffs) of any of the the proceeding years, and look at any of the 1000 threads critical of either of offense or newton, and then see who is creating said thread. They are the same posters in this every thread preaching "we don't really need to be making any moves..." these were the same posters who last year around this time, claimed that Underwood and King was sufficient for Newton then in the Steelers game complained about Newton not being able to move the ball and keep up with Big Ben in the second half. This an annual occurrence on the Huddle.
  15. There is this thinking within the FO that ALL we need to do is replace or match what we did the season before in the passing game...meanwhile teams like the Colts, who had one of the league's best passing attacks, are trying to acquire Andre Johnson. Could you imagine if the Panthers passing attack had the talent or numbers of the Colts? Our FO and the Huddle would not want to address the WR core until KB's son is ready to declare for the NFL draft. Like I said though, as a fan, it is fine to think like that. Just don't create 300 threads in November because the Panthers have gone a month without scoring more than 20 points...
  16. Then they will start jumping up and down in October about benching Newton because he cannot throw for 350 yards... These EXACT same posters did this LAST year and the year before...Complain all season about the offense...then in the off season mock anyone who suggest that maybe the FO could do this or that to upgrade the very unit they just spent the entire season crying about. Of course by the time the season start they are back to their "Newton should putting up 30 points on the Seahawks...and leading the Panthers in offensive shoot outs."
  17. Come on man...let's not get carried away... Cam is not signed for the same reason AJ Green is not signed; Jones; or a lot of the first rounders who are not already cut from their team... They have been tagged and there is little incentive to now work on a deal... Those rules do not apply to the non-first rounders...
  18. This is the thing I don't understand about the Huddle. The same people that are now fine with staying put or making lateral offensive moves will be the SAME posters screaming the loudest when we cannot muster up 17 points on a good or mediocre defense. The SAME exact posters. It's fine to like GMan's philosophy but don't cry come September when the Panthers need to win games 10-7.
  19. No. I understand. But it's still kinda funny. He better not make the same mistake for us.
  20. Not to be that guy, and I a happy Ginn is back, but does anybody remember that it was Ginn who fumbled kickoff/ punt return that I think lead to a Panther's TD in the playoffs?
