I’ll continue to believe that Tepper is too smart to make significant mistakes and become the next Dan Snyder or Stephen Ross rather than a Steve Bisciotti type owner. Truthfully, I believe him keeping Rhule is him saying that he wants to be a stable owner even if that means he’s going to keep a coach who is failing and may continue to fail. He’s following through with his strategy that it will take 3-4 years to “right the ship” and if at the end of 3-4 years there still isn’t progress then you abandon the coach and start over. As opposed to Stephen Ross who fired a coach who was showing significant promise or Dan Snyder who fires a coach every other year. John Harbaugh has had some great years and he’s had some pretty bad years. For about 4-5 years he had a .500 record and there were opinions he should be fired. Biscotti trusted Newsome and they kept him. After that stint he went 10-6, 14-2, 11-5. Contract extension. Rhule took over a bad team and for the first off-season he had Marty Hurney making decisions. Including Hurney overruling Rhule on the Derrick Brown pick. Now….It doesn’t seem like Rhule’s pick necessarily would be have been better (CJ Henderson) BUT there is time for Rhule to have a Harbaugh type turnaround. Year 3 is important but as was the case with every other year if he makes the right decision with the QB then we should be improved.

Worst Kept Secret at the Senior bowl (Panthers Interest in Pickett)
unicar15 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Can you imagine anyone thinking that Pickett was a better prospect than Fields or Zach Wilson? Apparently we had little to no interest in either of those players pre draft……….and now we’re interested in a dude who has to wear a glove to grip a professional size ball. He should do GREAT in bad weather. Not a turnover risk at ALL.m He cannot freaking throw a pro ball. It’s embarrassing. You can tell on SCREEN passes he can’t throw it. It’s like a high schooler. He double grips it to get a feel for the ball when he’s stepping INTO his throw. Not when he’s taking his drop as just a part of a pattern. When he’s actually getting ready to THROW the ball he’s trying to grip it. You CANNOT draft him in the first round. -
In that scenario the PFF computer drafted Corral and Pickett/Willis.

I know Rhule wants to win now. I think we all do. It’s not happening with Darnold. The smart play this year is to acquire picks for next year while trying to address needs this year with BPA. In this scenario there were two trades back in the first round (definitely possible with Fitt). The first nets two 2nd round picks in a swap with WFT. The second nets a 1st (2023) and 2nd from Pitt. The 2022 picks are Raimann, Strong, Asamoah, and Parham through 4 rounds. Then next years picks are: CAR 1st (likely pretty high) Pitt 1st (also likely top 15ish) CAR 2nd Pitt 2nd Buffalo 2nd So five day 1-2 picks in 2023 which is exactly what a team in a rebuild needs. If Strong works out with a big arm and underrated movement then we’re set up perfectly to surround him with talent. If he doesn’t work out then we take Stroud or Young (bc we’ll likely suck) and again….we’ll have plenty of assets to surround a young QB.

…..If he’s exonerated then I would do that deal without hesitation.

Your franchise is hindered if you don’t have a QB. You can find good players after the 1st round and win. You cannot however win without an elite QB. Idk what Watson’s status is with the legal stuff. But if the allegations never happened I would for sure, without question give up 3-4 1st round picks. Know why? Bc if he’s as good as everyone says he is then with our defense we’re a playoff team and drafting in the late 20s or later every year. Filterer believes there are normally 12 or so guys in a draft who are “different.” The rest could be 1st rounders, 2nd rounders, doesn’t matter. All about team fit. If you have Watson you aren’t drafting in the top 12 and that’s what matters. Make a trade to get Watson and Tunsil. Give them four 1st round picks and call it a day. Well be the best team in the division for a decade….

Yeah people complaining they got a raw deal as a head coach honestly need to look at Ben McAdoo. 2016 - Thought of as basically the next Sean Payton. Savant OC goes to the Giants and wins 11 games as a first year HC. Goes to the playoff in his first year as head coach. ONE YEAR later Eli starts showing his age and he sucks. He RIGHTLY benches Eli even if they didn’t have a good replacement. Bc Eli was terrible. The fan base cries bc….Eli. He gets canned after two seasons PROBABLY bc he told the Giants to cut bait with Eli and draft Mahomes or Allen. So…everyone wanna talk about a raw deal for a head coach???? Look at McAdoo. Case closed. He’d be an upgrade over Rhule imo as long as he could find a DC to replace Snow. I’d put money on us being better in 2022 under McAdoo and a new system than we ever have been under Rhule.
-
If I’m Tepper and Michigan wants Rhule then I’m releasing him from his contract and everyone is free and clear. No buy out. Just take the loss and don’t spook them from hiring him. Go hire Brian Flores or promote McAdoo and move on. Flores would preserve the integrity of the defense and he can find an OC to run that side of the ball. He might even decide he wants to keep McAdoo if he’s hired and you just replace Rhule….
-
There are so many good OTs in this draft. If we ignore it again I’m gonna have a stroke. You just will not get a better opportunity to lock up a crucial position….we have to do it. If we take a mediocre QB at 6 instead of angling to get an OT it’s going to be gross negligence.
-
Let Rhule go to Michigan. He’ll take Snow unfortunately but it’ll allow this franchise a fresh start. Give the job to Ben McAdoo for a year on a cheap contract and see what he can do with the QB situation. If it works out then extend him. If we continue to suck then you’ve got a fresh start to look for a coach in 2023 and maybe someone like Sean Payton is ready to go again at that point.
-
His job is to….manage really good coaches. Belichick had Vrabel, Crennel, etc as his DCs. He had Brady and McDaniels as his OCs/QB. What does Belichick do? Makes the final decision. Manages the coaches. If Rhule still sucks with these guys as his coordinators then he’ll never coach in the NFL again. But at this point I’m kinda hoping for McAdoo 2.0 and for Rhule to take that Michigan job. Bc I think McAdoo got the shaft in NY bc of Eli’s attempted retirement tour.

I think Howell and Corral (maybe Willis) end up being the best QBs of the bunch. None have elite traits that make them top 10 picks. Be comfortable with any of the three and try to move down to 10-13. Take whichever one is available and try to solve the line in free agency and maybe end of 1st, early 2nd with picks you get in a trade down. You either do that or you stay out and take the best OT and suck bad enough next year to get Young or Stroud (which also probably isn’t a bad way to go).

The fact that sports reporters have this thing they can do where they just print some dudes quote about another professional without comment from anyone else (Rhule in this case) just shows how it’s a form of sub journalism. Who knows if Rhule said it or not but Apple has basically zero credibility after getting cut at multiple orgs. So…Rhule’s thoughts were probably shared by a significant portion of the league. Secondly..What has Eli Apple done to inspire confidence in anything he says? Dude literally dropped off boards in the draft bc of character concerns, got cut from multiple teams bc of the same.

Haven’t read through the entire thread. Anyone realize that we now have the former QB coach for the Texans and the former OL coach for the Texans. Laremy Tunsil and Deshaun Watson seem to fill some needs for us…neither wants to be a Texan next year.
-
Maybe he can spot talent….almost a bigger deal than coaching it at this point.

A better comp for CMC would be Deebo. If CMC really is in the plans for the future he should be used the way the 9ers use Deebo. 8-10 targets 5-6 rushes. Enough of this 20 carry per game and last 5 games garbage.

This time last year Jaycee was mocked in the early 2nd, Lance was a borderline 1st, Zach Wilson was in the teens. There is quite a bit of pre draft to happen before stuff is set. If Stingley, Gardner, Hamilton are as special as everyone says I think they all go top 10 and the OL slide. 1-2 QBs are gonna go top 10. Ojabo may slide in there. My top 12 would look like this: 1. Jax - Thibodeaux 2. Lions - Pickett (I don’t think it’s the right pick but it’s the Lions). 3. Hou - Hutchinson (historically this franchise LOVES big time DL. He’s the next in line). 4. Jets - Stingley (trying to recreate Revis island). 5. Seahawks (via Giants) - Gardner 6. WFT (via Panthers) - Willis (RR finds his future at QB) 7. Seahawks - Evan Neal (they need to replace Duane Brown). ** I also think the Hawks could go get Garoppolo if they trade Wilson as in this scenario. 8. ATL - Hamilton (Falcons needs a safety and Hamilton fits the need and BPA). 9. Green Bay (via Denver) - Garrett Wilson (Davante and Rodgers are both out to Denver via trade and FA). 10. Jets - Ekwonu - Jets are patient and get their final piece to an elite OL for Zach Wilson. 11. CAR - Charles Cross (Panthers move down and still get BPA, two extra picks this year and a position of need). *** I think they would use the assets to move back into position to get either Sam Howell or Matt Corral as WFT would have to trade pick 42. Panthers could trade 2022 42 and 2023 2nd round and a 4th round pick to try and get back into the bottom of the 1st round.

What is Joe Burrow’s superior trait to Kenny Pickett?
unicar15 replied to FuFuLamePoo's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
After watching Burrow in these playoffs anyone who thinks Pickett is similar is joking themselves bc of the 5th year senior thing. Burrow is elite. He’s a generational QB that basically got caught in a no win situation at OSU. Then he went to another blue chip school and dominated. You could also make the argument that Day and Meyer screwed up and basically eye ball tested their QB based on physicality (which matters more in college football) than they did pure passing ability. Burrow goes to LSU and basically he and Chase make Ed freaking Orgeron look like a genius…and we all know about Joe Brady. The secret was…it wasn’t coach O, Brady, Chase or Jefferson. It wasn’t CEH in the backfield. The special sauce was Burrow the whole time. So no…..Kenny Pickett isn’t Joe Burrow. Everyone needs to stop trying to compare. Their career arcs aren’t remotely similar other than Pickett was middling in a garbage division at a mostly garbage football school and has pretty garbage “traits.” Burrow on the other hand is elite -
He got benched then put on IR then we brought back a guy who nobody else wanted then we hired an OC who has verbalized that he thought when Darnold was in the draft he has mechanics that aren’t salvageable. Add to all that we have an owner who wants to win. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Darnold is far far far from our only realistic option in 2022.
-
Out of all of those options I’d be satisfied with Corral. I think Willis is a wait and see prospect. Wouldn’t be shocked at all if he ends up in ATL sitting behind Ryan for a year. One name I may add to that list is Jordan Love. If the Packers decide they don’t want to be morons and make a way to try and keep Rodgers I would assume Love is on the market so they can try to flip him for assets to win now. The Packers need a DT and they need cap space. They also need cost effective wide receivers. If they aren’t able to keep Davante Adams they’ll be looking for a replacement to appease Rodgers. If I’m CAR and McAdoo likes Jordan Love I would seriously consider trying to flip DJ Moore for Love in a deal. You could probably also get some kind of a pick in the deal. Other potential options could be Derrick Brown or Morgan Fox. But Love should be on this list..

What is Joe Burrow’s superior trait to Kenny Pickett?
unicar15 replied to FuFuLamePoo's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
I actually think hand size matters a lot. To overcome a lack of velocity on the throw you better be the next Peyton Manning. Anyone here think that’s Pickett? I don’t. Burrows arm is underrated. Is he Herbert? No. But he’s got good (not great) velocity. I think Picketts arm is gonna expose him at the Senior Bowl. I think by the end of all this the QB rankings are goin to be: 1. Corral 2. Howell 3. Pickett and Willis -
Bailey Zappe looks like the FBS version of Mac Jones….which is not a compliment.

Im old enough to remember Mike Shulas name getting throw around when Cam was lighting it up. If he hadn’t already lit a major college football team on fire as it’s HC he probably would have had a lot of offers. Great QB seasons often make mediocre coaches look really good…give me the QB and he’ll make the coach look good.
