Todd McShay - Rhlue "won't be crying when the two sides part ways"
unicar15 replied to trueblade's topic in Carolina Panthers
McShay is a mouthpiece for the owners who have made him who he is. He isn’t impartial in the least. I’ve been saying this for a year….the idea that Tepper was going to roll in here and make every other billionaire look small without backlash was impossible. He immediately became richer than any other owner and let everyone know it. He gave Rhule a massive deal that drove the price up for the bottom rung owners. They can’t stand it. -
The knock on Howell (from Nystrom) is essentially that he ran an extremely simple system and when he didn’t get the look he wanted he didn’t know what to do.

Make the Saints give up both picks. We get Corral and BPA which could legitimately be a guy like Drake London. I realize we have more pressing issues than WR right now but the argument could be made this is RAs last year, who knows about Shi, and if TM doesn’t pan out we literally have one legit WR. If London really is Mike Evans 2.0 like he’s billed and you take a guy like Matt Corral….know what’s going to make him really good? Really good receivers.
-
Yeah there is zero doubt in my mind this is a networking opportunity for him. I wouldn’t be shocked if he is at the top of the UT and FSU list this off-season when they fire Sark and Norvell.

If we draft a QB it needs to be while simultaneously getting picks this year and next year in trades down: I think LB is way weaker than a lot of people think. You need 2-3 good ones. We need another impact linebacker. Chenal is big and a downhill impact player. Let our corners play man and blitz the linebackers…Shaq, Chenal, and Luvu could be a strong rotation. I’m not a Pickett fan. But he almost seems like a foregone conclusion and while I don’t think he has much upside I think he offers more “win now” potential. You can build on that almost like the Rams did with Goff. Build a winner and FA will want to come. Then you can always replace him later if he’s needs to be upgraded. If we drafted him and he’s as efficient as people say he is then I think with the D we’re a playoff team. That’s something to build on…

He’s going late 3rd at earliest imo. He’s not prototypical and he’s got a leg injury history. Someone will probably get a good QB. But only certain teams are going to draft QBs at all and of those teams most are going to probably try to get their preferred guy. Idt a lumbering, injured QB is going to be at the top of the list. If we can get Neal, Ickey, Cross as our #1 and then for some reason Strong is there in the 4th then sure. But immobile QBs are probably some of the least desirable players in the NFL these days. It limits absolutely everything about your offense. Honestly, in the last 20 years I would say Brady and the Mannings are the only effective QBs who haven’t had really good ability to get out of the pocket and throw on the run.

Kayvon Thibodeaux??? How you feeling if he was the pick?

Is he Jordan or is he Aldon Smith? -
Jimmy G with a legit OL, CMC, DJ etc wouldn’t be the end of the world. We’d basically be the Niners and they had a pretty decent season last year. The south sucks this year. Do not underestimate how much Tepper wants to take advantage of a weak year in this division. Draft the tackle. Bring in JG when he gets released…not a bad off-season.

Who knows… It is interesting that the two guys on that list who are future HOF have arms 1-1/2in longer than any prospect in this draft.
-
Honestly with the medicals and that he’s not “prototype” anymore I wouldn’t be surprised if he falls to the late 3rd or 4th.
-
My prediction for Darnold this year is that he’s serviceable behind a really good line and a top 10 running game. I think CMC stays healthy, the line blocks well and Sam goes for something like 25/12, 3800 yards, 63% comp, 85 QBR. It’ll be his best season and he’ll earn a backup job somewhere next year but we’ll move on and focus on trying to get a player like Stroud, Young, or even a vet like Derek Carr.

I keep thinking about a podcast I listened to with former OL that said basically the guys who are plug and play (and don’t need extra coaching) are incredibly valuable bc of the NFLPA practice mandates. A guy like Penning is going to fall bc he needs refinement. Ekwonu, Neal, Cross are all plug and play with little need at this point to be coached up. It also may be the draw with a guy like Pickett over Willis. He’s 25. He has been coached up by former NFL coaches. I don’t love it but it’s like the Mac Jones scenario. He’s plug and play. Willis may have more potential upside. But it’s going to take years. That’s why a guy like Bryce Young next year is going to be so coveted. He has the athletic intangibles but has been coached up already by NFL coordinators. He’ll be plug and play. Take the tackle this year. Try to get in position to take young next year (likely if Darnold is the starter).

KC looking to trade up into top 10.

I’d need that 1st next year as well at least. That’s a huge jump. Could potentially still get good players but Fitts process is usually there are 12 1st round players in a draft. Adding the 2 would be nice. But need another 1st next year to give flexibility to move back up if we wanted to. -
https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/article/nfl-draft-analysis/2022-nfl-draft-rankings-qb1-malik-willis Just draft Willis.
-
The Saints just lost Terron Armstead and Michael Thomas has basically been a non-factor. My gut says they're targeting a LT and a WR and think they can get them both in the teens. Think Penning and either Treylon Burks, London, or Wilson (if for some reason Wilson falls).
-
I think Icky is the best possible player for us to draft. He’s good enough in pass protection. But Darnold is gonna be turning around and handing the ball off a good bit to the backs and Icky is elite at run blocking. When the Niners use Trent Williams to pull….it’s unstoppable. That’s what we’d get in Icky.
-
The QB class is a total crapshoot this year. The smart move is to ride with Darnold and draft a LT. If Darnold is actually able to perform with some level of consistency and doesn’t turn the ball over then we have a really complete team otherwise. If he isn’t good then someone will come in and take over a loaded roster and we’ll draft from a better QB class next year.

The Athletic's Ted Nguyen scouts Kenny Pickett
unicar15 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I actually don’t think any of these QBs are going to be top 15 guys. But out of all of them I think Ridder may have the best chance. I know alot of people ads saying he’s “Mariotta” but he actually reminds me more of David Carr than Pickett does. -

I want to see the Ridder eval. -

Cam didn’t have a comp bc of his size and speed. He’s a generational talent without an equal. What I’m saying is that you cannot accurately compare Willis (similar to other small school QBs - Lance included). That is concerning. There’s still a huge question about if Lance can start…and imo he has more elite traits than Willis. He also has maybe one of the best offensive minds of the last 15-20 years as his coach. Imo Willis is gonna fall on his face if he comes here. Maybe he excels under a coach similar to Shanahan. But we don’t know about McAdoo and Rhule has shown zero ability to win with limited QBs.
-
Comparisons allow projections and the NFL has existed long enough that I don’t think anyone is really gonna break the mold. So….there’s a comp out there for Willis and I want to know what it is. Bc if there isn’t one then that means he hasn’t done enough to warrant one which is concerning. My fear is that he has comps but we just don’t want to say them bc they aren’t favorable in a year we need a QB. Same as with Pickett. His comps aren’t favorable. We need a QB. We avoid the discussion.

There are a ton of examples of QBs who have won big with big arms at small schools. You’re saying Allen is the comp?
