You guys remember that Matt Rhule was driving that train on that trade right? Dan Arnold was a Fitt FA find. We needed corner help though and Rhule had Henderson ranked as one of his top players the year that Hurney was the GM. So…he drove the train on getting Henderson here. You can question the compensation we gave up to get him. But he was a former top 10 pick at a premium position. You’re not getting a corner for a TE or a former 1st round pick (in year 2) for a future 3rd. So….if Rhule wanted him and had control over personnel that was prob the best deal Fitt was getting.

The entire offensive line. A top 5 corner. Finally trading CMC for some kind of draft capital. Fixing the worst cap situation in the league. Not signing “fan favorites” to overpriced contracts. Building a roster that is a QB away from killing in the playoffs. If Hurney was still our GM we would have extended CMC, given Reddick a massive contract, traded up or down for a WR, DL or LB in the draft and still not have an OT. He would have made minimal investments on the OL and signed cheap FA.

Has the exact conversation with a friend the other night. If you want Wilks then you better be in the camp who also thought we should have kept Rivera. That’s fine…Rivera is a good coach. Wilks will be too. But neither have shown they have what it takes to be transcendent. Someone please tell me the last time a guy got hired essentially as a first time head coach at age 53? He’d be like the 5th oldest coach in the league during his first year as our HC. And I’ll say it again…The game that sealed it for me was the Bucs game. It was a must win (could have won) situation and the worst unit on the field was his specialty (the secondary). They got absolutely torched and we lost bc of it. If that’s his MO and he can’t take over that unit and fix the scheme when Darnold was actually playing well for once..then no he shouldn’t get the job. I put zero stock in the players wanting him as HC. Players don’t want a coach like Belichick or maybe even Sean Payton…they’re grinders. Guess who else the players really liked up until he was fired? Matt Rhule. “Players coach.” They went to bat for him week after week…and he sucked.

If they fire Fitterer they’re a bunch of morons. The only circumstances I wouldn’t want Payton would be if he doesn’t want Fitt. Fitt trumps all for me…

Roman Harper thinks Sean Payton could be our next HC now
unicar15 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
How many fans on here are old enough to remember how utterly horrific the Saints were before Sean Payton got there? They were legitimately one of the worst franchises in all of sports. He turned them into a perennial winner, a Super Bowl champion, and completely changed their fortunes. If we hire Payton then we just hired probably one of the best 2-3 coaches in all of football. If we hire Payton AND get Lamar Jackson…get ready. With what we have on defense and the OL it will be the beginning of the greatest run in the history of this franchise. -
I would do this if we hired Sean Payton and he wanted Lance…otherwise he’s basically a QB that one of the great QB whisperers gave up on so I have no interest.

Darnold, Corral and Stroud, Young, Levis.

Same question as with all these guys…who’s the staff he’ll bring?

I guess that begs the question….what qualifications does one have to have in order to be the president of an NFL team? The team president of the 9ers started his career at comcast, worked as a consultant for the NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA and has been involved with football since high school…and is the CEO of another big sports media company. The chiefs President is Mark Donovan who’s been on the industry for 3 decades. His bio is massive but here is an except: “Donovan arrived in Kansas City after six years with the Philadelphia Eagles as Senior Vice President of Business Operations (2003-08). Prior to joining the Eagles, Donovan held leadership roles as the NFL's Senior Director of Sales and Marketing (1999-2003) and the Director of Sales and Marketing for the National Hockey League (1997-99). He also brings seven years of experience in the private business sector.” I get that Nicole Tepper is the president and likely it’s a role given bc DT wants to be the final say on basically every decision (which I have no problem). But…Giving any person the title of president of a billion dollar company when there are competition out there like Al Guido and Mark Donovan is ridiculous. I would say the job of president may be the most difficult job in the entire building.

ESPN reported its a distal radius. I’m assuming bc they didn’t know at first it would be a buckle type of fx. If you re-injure and and fracture it further causing displacement then it would likely require surgery (if it doesn’t already). Wrist fractures aren’t hand injuries. They’re more common but more complicated and carry more significant risk of nerve injury that could cause permanent dysfunction. So…he’s probably done.

This. The only caveat imo is that if Fitt is looking for a defensive minded head coach there’s no reason to go in a different direction from Wilkes. If he wants an O minded HC then Wilkes is gone and id back up the Brinks truck for Payton and do everything possible to get Lamar Jackson (bc that’s who Payton is going to want).
-
The only thing this list proves is that the NFC is garbage this year. Other than Hurts the NFC list is weak. Fitterer is going to have the toughest personnel decisions of his life this off-season. 1. Do you keep Wilkes? 2. Do you roll with Corral coming off an injury? If either of those decisions is wrong it could set this franchise back another 2-3 years at least.

He was a QB in college. But you’re right his coaching experience is on defense. In any event…the vast majority of these impressive young QBs are being coached up by offensively minded head coaches. Hell…Brian Daboll has Daniel Jones playing well enough that Victor Cruz is banging the drum for him to get an extension. He was all but a bust last year. Daboll is an offensive minded coach.
-
As long as he drafts a QB….IDC. But the reality is that the rookie QBs have done better with offensive minded HCs. Not defensive coaches. Pickett - Struggling with defensive minded Tomlin Willis - Not playing/not impressive defensive minded Vrabel. Hurts - Playing really well with O minded Siriani Mac Jones - Belichick (defense) - Not great TUA - Went from D minded Flores to O minded McDaniel…stud now. Mahomes - Andy Reid Herbert - Brandon Staley - Stud Lawrence - Playing much better under Pederson Fields - Still struggling under Eberflus who is a former DC. Burrow - Zac Taylor - O minded Josh Allen - unicorn but is thriving under McDermott who is D minded So of the best young QBs recently..Mahomes, Herbert, Tua, Hurts, Burrow are far and away the best young QBs. They’re all coached by offensive minded HCs. Josh Allen is a Unicorn. Lamar is playing great hut has ups and downs and Harbaugh is neither O nor D.

Multiple guys last few years with basically stress foot injuries (likely from playing on turf repeatedly)….you’d think this would be top of mind for Tepper. Lost our 1st round pick last year and he’s still a little hobbled. Lost our drafted QB this year. I don’t get the turf dogma.

What’s your 2023 QB big board (including Corral)
unicar15 replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think Stroud has the most upside. So I would take Stroud and let him sit. If Corrall balls out coming off an injury then you have an extremely valuable asset (whichever QB doesn’t win the job). -
We need ALOT. We need a WR2 as well unless for some reason Marshall is able to put something on film with a corpse as his QB which I find highly unlikely. I think for TE you have to go after a pass catching vet like Gesicki and pair him with Tremble. You can’t use another draft pick on a TE. We’ve already burned two high picks on Tremble and Thomas. WR is a more important position and we currently have one legit receiver. I definitely agree we need another domino to fall tho. If it’s me I would try trading Shaq and Donte. Three years and $32 mil is pretty friendly deal for a guy who’s a solid corner. Panthers could get a 3rd and cap relief from DJ IMO.
-
He is THIRTY POUNDS lighter than Jalen Hurts. THIRTY. What the hell was the Alabama strength coach doing with him in the off-season? He’s got to put on weight. There isn’t enough accuracy difference imo between him and Stroud to take him over Stroud. Stroud is 2inches taller and 20th a heavier. He could easily get up to 225lbs. Levis is 6’3” 231. He’s already NFL size. These are the same arguments people were making for Tua/Herbert. Who would now take Tua over Herbert? Nobody. If there is a close talent gap or “what did you put on film” gap…you go with the measurables.

Panthers "listening" on Shaq Thompson also
unicar15 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think you could get a 3rd for him. What linebacker doesn’t seem overpaid that’s making $14mil/year or more? The problem with Shaq is the same problem as everyone on our defense…they’re being asked to play out of position. Shaq isn’t a MLB. He’s a WLB or a Big Nickel. It’s kinda funny that he was really the Chinn before Chinn. Then we asked him to be a pure linebacker as the next TD and he gets eaten up by OL. So we took a linebacker that was a good cover LB and a really good blitzing LB and forced him into the box at the same time we lost Keuchly. So….no wonder the dude didn’t live up to billing. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to Buffalo or Washington and lights it up. In fact if he played for Buffalo as a big nickel he’d be a stud. Can you imagine them lining up Von Miller on the edge with Shaq and Tremaine Edmunds behind him. You’d have zero idea where the rush was coming from. -
They’re gonna gut the roster before that happens. They need to trade CMC immediately. We’re 6 games in. There’s no way he’s making it the whole season. You’ve got to trade him.

Graziano: "Lots of buzz" Panthers could fire Rhule
unicar15 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bottom line: Jimmy G comes out and balls out against us and wins in CLT…Rhule is finished. Rhule has said all along he wants )and has had) roster decision making final authority. There’s zero reason we couldn’t have acquired JG instead of Baker. He signed off on Baker. JG throwing dimes to Deebo while Baker gets balls batted down and CMC/DJ are misused in this garbage offense is the final nail. -
Jason La Canfora on the Panthers Future and CMC
unicar15 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Our issue is the same as it has been since Rhule got here. We don’t have a QB and unlike other top coaches, Rhule can’t gameplan and win without an elite QB. Hell…who knows if he can win WITH an elite QB. But the issue isn’t the DL, secondary, OL, RBs, WRs. These are all proven position groups at one point or another in their careers. The issue is the QB and HC. No proven track record at those spots. At this point Rhule has used up his bluffs and needs to be replaced. BUT…He won’t be replace during the season. What difference would that make? We’d be eliminated from the playoffs. We’d have a lame duck coach. Tepper would have to contend with the “did the lame duck do enough to keep the job” talk. Which NEVER works out. Then worst case scenario is even while we’re eliminated the lame duck coach figures out a way to win some games with the only reward being….losing draft status. I actually think the smartest play if we lose this week (and maybe no matter what) would be to trade CMC and get picks…almost ensuring we finish as one of the worst 3 teams in the league. Rhule will walk at the end of the year I’m almost positive. He’s getting to the point where he’s not even gonna get a good college job if he doesn’t leave soon. You can’t go 4-5 years with zero success and then land an elite job. He could still potentially get one at this point.
