If he gives the defense what they need to turn short fields for the offense then I’ll be excited. I don’t have a lot of hope for this season. But if there is hope we need the defense to get back on track and to win a couple games without CMC.
-
No way. The Panthers aren’t eating the contract of one of the best players in the league. Healthy or not…that ain’t happening.
-
You’re greatest ability is availability. They’re using the media to try and get HOU back to the table. If CMC can’t play then he’s not more valuable than the defenders we have. It also frees up a ton of cap room.

Year. Two.
-
This wasn’t part of the argument? But giving someone a 7 year deal does seem to imply that you aren’t going to fire them after the second year. Granted, Tepper could probably burn that money and not care. But considering his business background I’m going to say he has no trouble being patient and waiting for the process to play out. If this team stays healthy it’s a borderline playoff team. That’s progress in year two. Rhule can’t control that the best player on the team is out and the two best players on defense are out. Could argue the 3 best players on the team have been out over the last 4 games and one of them is a rookie that Rhule preferred. That’s not bad team management. That’s bad luck.

Hurney played Hurney-ball and couldn’t see the future. Rhule was new and mistakenly let him. I think Herbert was the desired player. Hurney didn’t try to move up for the first time in his life. Probably could have made the deal with the Giants considering they targeted an OT who wasn’t a top 5 selection to most teams.

Also…if you think a guy who’s worried about getting fired after year two is going to hitch his future to a previously failed #3 overall draft pick and Bridgewater you’re crazy. The last two years were Rhule basically trying to build elements of this team (mainly defense) and develop a culture. He wasn’t going to compromise the overall way he thinks you win in order to reach for a guy like Fields. So….we got Darnold. We will see what happens in year 3 but he ain’t going anywhere unless he wants to
-
It’s a SEVEN year deal. Thinking that Tepper expected playoffs in year 2 is naive.
-
Darnold was playing well until two of his three favorite targets were taken away. It’s not a secret this offense was tailored to take advantage of two things: CMC YAC and an athletic TE. In the last three weeks the TE we traded away has 10/123 on 15 targets. With CAR he has 7/84 on 11 targets. Four targets per game doesn’t sound like a lot but Tremble has had more than 2 targets ONCE the entire year. Which means Darnold doesn’t think he’s getting open. Which means a normally easy throw over the middle or on a quick out isn’t getting thrown. CMC probably would be averaging 8-9 targets if he was still playing. Chuba has been averaging 4 targets per game since CMC went out. So….two guys, really reliable, normally coverage mismatches and would account for around 13 targets per game were replaced by two rookies who are averaging together about 6 targets per game (MAX). That will probably make you look like you suck worse than you actually are. He went from running a high completion percentage offense to running an offense predicated on getting the ball downfield to receivers bc the short targets aren’t easy to get to anymore.

Chris Simms: People have caught on to the Panthers offense.
unicar15 replied to Tbe's topic in Carolina Panthers
These are the dumbest takes. Nobody is making up a new NFL offense. People always knew what the Pats were going to do. It’s about executing it and not being sloppy. -
It turns out that Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, and Jamar Chase are really really good and the players you’re coaching may matter more than the play calls. Prediction: Panthers will continue to have the same mediocre players at the most important positions and no matter the coaching from Brady or Rhule…until it gets fixed they’ll be mediocre. Get a pro bowl caliber QB, LT and maybe Brady’s play calls look better.

Are we a more attractive destination for Russell Wilson?
unicar15 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
He’s not leaving Seattle. He’s wanted PC gone for a while. He’s proving his point while being on the bench. Carroll will be gone…Russell will be the most influential QB in the league. -
Didn’t Sean Ryan coach Watson?
-
After the cap goes up Darnolds 5th year is going to be CHEAP. He’s also at the very least a capable backup. His first three games were mid-level starter quality. He was playing well. QBs like him are desirable for good teams who want a steady backup. There are also QB injuries that will happen as well. Don’t underestimate the ego of an NFL coach who thinks he’s the right one for a player. Plus…Darnold has a ton going against him right now. CMC is out, OL is a sieve, WRs have brick hands. There is some OC Out there who will convince his GM it’s worth the pic to have him on the team. Got to get a capable starter first though

When did you give up on Matt Rhule?
unicar15 replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just curious…. Belichick is currently 3-4 and has basically beaten the same teams we have…and lost to teams we beat. Payton is 3-2 and lost to a full strength Panthers team. Easily could be a 7-10 team this year. Nothing special about them. Carroll is 2-4 Reid and the Chiefs are 3-4. Mahomes is great but their drafts have been garbage. These are widely considered the best coaches in the game. Three of them no longer have upper tier starting QBs. So they suck and probably won’t make the playoffs. One of them has an elite QB but the rest of the team personnel has been mismanaged. Moral of the story: Rhule has been coach for 2 years. Not close to enough time to figure out the entire roster. Which is basically what is required to be an elite team. Great in all phases. The D is showing up. Fix the QB and I think the O will too. Sometimes your players just aren’t good. That’s the boat the Panthers are in right now and you don’t fix that in 2 years. Especially with how hard it is to ACQUIRE an elite QB. -
When did you give up on Matt Rhule?
unicar15 replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
The corner he drafted was playing like the best defender on the team before an injury. We may need those other two positions more. But Horn is a stud so it wasn’t the wrong choice. The QB everyone wanted (Fields) just got THUMPED by the Bucs and he turned it over FIVE times. -
I can’t believe that a team is willing to give up a top 5 pick and multiple first round picks for a guy who might not ever play again. Everyone realizes that Mike Vick went to JAIL for dog fighting and his career was basically ruined at after 7 years. People can say what they want about the Philly stint. Dog fighting is serious…but what Watson is facing is even more serious. He could legitimately go to jail. How do you give up Tua and a trove of picks with that possibility?

No more retreads or reclamation projects at QB
unicar15 replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
Idt Wilson is going anywhere. He’s going to force them to fire PC and he’ll stay and have a bunch of power. Who knows with Watson and his legal stuff. I doubt Rodgers wants to chase a SB wjth Brady in division. -
He can’t. The offense will remain incompetent as long as CMC is out and we have the worst line in the league. Want to fix it? Trade for a proven veteran and fix the line. Other option is another season down the tubes….draft the future. PJ isn’t the answer. If he was then Sam wouldn’t be on the team.
