  1. Leftwich has been in the league for 20 years as a player and a coach. He’s been a player with the Steelers and he’s been a coach with an extremely successful QB guru. You could argue there isn’t anyone better in the entire league at maximizing QB talent than Bruce Arians. Roethlisberger’s best years - Arians Luck’s best years - Arians Warner’s best years - Arians Palmer’s resurgence - Arians Brady’s resurgence - Arians That is who Leftwich has been learning under and he’s becoming a QB guru himself. We would be stupid not to look at Leftwich. Heck…he could be good enough to squeeze out one more year with Cam while we develop a rookie.
  2. Agreed. The only thing that makes me second guess this is if he’s on the fence and Fitterer gets in his ear and tells him he can’t afford to wait. That the QB options will need to be developed (bc we aren’t going to be able to trade for one) so we need someone who is a QB expert when we draft one this year. If Fitterer sees this team as an LA Rams (Goff) situation where a rookie QB contract allows him to build an elite roster I think you have to fire Rhule and hire someone like the Rams did with McVay. A guy who is going to make his QB great…and the rest of the pieces basically are just so good they really don’t need as much attention. If that makes sense. Top three candidates imo: Byron Leftwich Kellen Moore Brian Daboll Get one of those guys and get a QB who can sling it.
  3. JH would be a home run. He’s going to get $100 mil to stay in Ann Arbor tho.
  4. Leave it to Belichick to prove you don’t actually need a QB at all to win a game.
  5. Why? Why would you do this? Is this normal in the NFL? Maybe if they’re prepping for a great run defense they let the QB coach take the lead. If it’s a great pass D the other way? I’m assuming this isn’t just a random selection. Hopefully it’s geared toward the coaches strengths but man this seems like it would create a real lack of continuity with the players.
  6. Bienemy is gonna be a head coach. Raiders would be a perfect match for a first time head coach. Carr and that offense are perfect for EB. He’s familiar with the AFCW…
  7. I’ve been saying all year. He isn’t getting fired after year 2 of a 6-7 year deal. He has to fix the QB situation and at this point I’m not sure if it’s fixable or if they’re going to gut the team trying…but he will get a year 3. Almost without a doubt in my mind.
  8. Do you think DJ is worth a max contract? Because after next year if he is worth re-signing that is what he will want. Has he done enough to make us comfortable with that? Not me. Even if he comes out next year and has 1200 yards and 10-15 TDs with a new QB situation. Idk if he’s a legit long term guy.
  9. Got to run the ball when coach says to run the ball.
  10. My concern if Rhule’s seat is hot enough to get canned is that Tepper is going to turn into Snyder 2.0 abs CAR is going to be an endless carousel of HC. Two years and two garbage QBs just isn’t enough imo to show a HC can’t do the job. Maybe you’re at the point you don’t trust him tk make the QB decision. But isn’t that what Fitt is for… I hope this is Fitt making these decisions and not Tepper acting as de facto GM.
  11. I liked his prospects like everyone else. The inability to make any changes and adapt to what his weapons do best was just not gonna get fixed.
  12. DJ literally had two balls hit him right in the chest from Cam against the Dolphins. Maybe back to back plays…he dropped them both. He’s always had hands problems. I love the guy and really thought he was gonna be a top 10 type WR this year. But his hands are mediocre.
  13. You have to clean out the WRs. The RA problem isn’t one we’re getting rid of this year or next. Just gotta hope he bounces back. At this point you can’t resign DJ. He’s supposed to be a #1 and the dude has drop problems and has always had fumble problems. Had high hopes but at this point I think you have to get Marshall up to speed.
  14. I think Rhule ends up at ND. IMO he’s a very Brian Kellyesque type of coach. Process, system, builder. I think he likes that about college and it doesn’t work in the NFL the way he thought it may. ND is giving Freeman a chance to see if they get in the CFP and let him show what he can do. But after that I fully expect them to go looking for BK replacement. The timeline matches up so that if we lose 1-2 more games and are basically eliminated from playoffs in mid December (likely) Rhule is going to start putting feelers out. ND will be the best job available. Freeman will be out…Rhule will be in. That’s my hunch. Which could be completely wrong. But it’ll give Rhule time to know this season is over. It’ll give ND time to evaluate Freeman. ND went through a serious dry spell with some of their hires during the early-2000s. They don’t want to go back to that. Getting a proven builder at the college level is going to be important. I think Fickell could take the OU job. I don’t think they’ll want someone who hasn’t been a HC like Venables.
  15. Nobody they get is better than Riley. They lost the break up.
  16. DBs have literally been the Achilles heel of our defense for decades. Now you guys think there is an abundance of good ones? Don’t be naive. If Horn comes back healthy and we have Henderson and Gilmore as well our DBs will be the talk of the league. I don’t disagree that we need a LT but Horn could be Sherman, Ramsay, Lattimore in a year or two. You need those players to win a super bowl. Three positions imo you need to win a super bowl in this era of football. Elite DB Elite QB Elite pass rush We have two of the three which quite frankly is the only reason we’ve won any games this year at all and aren’t in Lions territory. We need the QB to fix the offense. A good QB doesn’t HAVE to have an elite left tackle. An elite left tackle HAS to have an elite QB. Same problem for the last 5 years with this team. Fix the QB. Win games. It’s that easy.
  17. It’s gonna be Pickett. Rhule has a connection. He’s going to be highly rated. I actually wouldn’t be disappointed he looks like he has good tools. I don’t know if I trust Brady to make do it right tho and if you mess him up from the beginning. You’re in trouble.
  18. Bc the reality to the fans of a team is not reality. The reality to everyone except CAR fans is that Matt Rhule is seen as a coach who did really well at Temple. Then turns a dumpster fire Baylor Bears team into a B12 runner up and plays in the sugar bowl. Then comes to Carolina and through the first 11 games of this season is basically .500 without CMC and Sam Darnold, PJ Walker, and off the couch Cam Newton as his QBs. He has also built a top 5 defense. So we can say what we want about Rhule. I don’t necessarily think he’s a great NFL coach. But not everyone on the outside analyzes every down of an NFL team the way fans do. It wouldn’t shock me at all if Rhule got an offer from OU. I’m 50/50 on whether he would take it or if he’s the type of guy who really believes his system always works and wants to stay to prove it.
  19. Kelly got $100 mil. ND could write Rhule a voidable 7-year contract for $60 mil and save $40 mil. Rhule gets basically another start with the same money he’d make at CAR. If they offered that he’d be dumb not to take it. Bc if he has another bad year here he’s done. Nobody is gonna touch him. He’ll be a coordinator or get a mediocre college job. Ole Miss is a losing proposition. They’re gonna get run in the new SEC and now you’re following Kiffin if he leaves. You basically take that job if you’re looking for any way out of your situation.
  20. I honestly think that Rhule is more of a CEO/let your team do the work type of coach. I think that works when you’re a true expert and the staff learns from you and then also can go to you in a bad spot to make a good decision. Unfortunately, I don’t think that is Rhule’s strength. I think his strength is putting in processes that build his staff and team up so they can just make the decision themselves without him having to intervene on game day. The problem is that in order for that to be successful you have to have an elite staff. His staff is not elite. You could argue that other than Snow it’s the worst assistant staff in the NFL. You can get by with a mediocre staff if you’re a great coach who can override bad decisions on game day. I’m thinking about Bill Cowher and some of the OCs he had (Whisenhunt and Mularkey were pretty terrible HC. They had great success under Cowher). I think Pete Carroll’s decision making for a time elevated his teams when he has had pretty mediocre coordinators. I don’t think Rhule has that as a strength though and he may be able to build a program. But you have to be able to make the right decision on game day if your OC is a 33yo with zero NFL playcalling experience. He hasn’t shown that he can.
  21. Rhule isn’t leaving a $60 mil NFL job for Ole Miss and if he did then he is just looking for the fastest exit. Some CFB jobs make sense….Ole Miss would be a major downgrade.
  22. Put him in the slot. Let Chuba carry the load. Heck maybe he can prove he’s worth the money as a WR and we can trade him.
  23. Best case scenario would be that OU wants him bc of B12 familiarity and there is a mutual parting of ways. Tepper tells him to take the job to avoid getting fired and that he’ll release him from the contract so there is no buyout required.
  24. This has been the correct way to use CMC the entire time he’s been in the league. The only reason he’s been able to be a RB in this league is bc he is just that freakin talented. He’s literally able to excel at a position that his body isn’t meant for….put him at his natural position before his career is completely wasted.
  25. Honestly…it’s just insane to me that the coaching staff didn’t see something in practice to say they needed to bring him along slower. As fans we of course want to see him start. But FFS this is the NFL…they didn’t see ANY downside of playing a guy 100% of the snaps who can only deliver 50% of the playbook??
