CMC will not be on this team next year. I didn’t think he SHOULD be on the team last year. But now I’m pretty sure Tepper and Fitterer are seeing what a giant screw up Hurney was by signing another huge running back deal. CMC is a great player for a team that can contend. We used to be that at the beginning of his career. As soon as it appeared we weren’t that he should have been traded.
-
Don’t underestimate what teams are willing to trade when they feel they have a “window.” I could definitely see a team like the Dolphins on the heels of 8 straight making a deal to get CMC as a final piece for Tua.

Tepper has to realize that because Rhule has zero NFL name he isn’t going to find a quality OC. Maybe if there was a promising QB here then he could lure someone. But with Ian Rapaport reporting we’re reaching out to cast offs from the Vikings and Hamilton has returned the call I don’t see this ending with a a savior type of OC. So what is the realistic plan? Because I doubt that without an OL, QB, or OC the miraculous “3rd year results” come to fruition. The plan is a minimum of a two year plan to even compete for the playoffs. If Fitterer wants to be here long term he needs to stop with the “build AND win” plan bc you WILL NOT win without a QB and Rhule has poisoned the well when it comes to legit veterans. They aren’t gonna play for him. 2022 Offseason: 1. Trade CMC. Please. Just do this. I wanted to trade him last offseason when it could have net the team probably multiple day 1&2 picks (realistically I think it would have been a 1, two 2s and a player). Now I’d be happy if we get a 1 or a high 2 as long as the other team takes the entire contract. His production is amazing when he’s healthy. Trade him somewhere that will pitch count him and go to a super bowl on his big plays. (Picks 1&3) 2. Trade Derrick Brown for the right price. I think you could probably get a late 1 for him. The other interior guys we have are capable but honestly it doesn’t matter. We don’t have a QB so why keep him one more year for him to blow his value (Potentially what happened with CMC already in 2021) (1st) 3. Sign Reddick and Burns. QB and QB pressure is what wins. Have to try to keep these two for 3-4 more years (5-6 years for Burns). 4. Roll with Horn, Taylor, Henderson and Gilmore and be done. Let Jackson walk. Gilmore imo is critical to keeping the best unit on the team strong and teaching two guys who have massive physical potential (Horn and Hendo). 5. Trade Robbie. He’s not productive and he’s a distraction. IDC what you get for him. (6th) 7. Keep Darnold unless there is a good pick involved. Which there won’t be. I think he probably sucks. But Rhule is partially right. The OL would have caused 90% of the QBs in the league to play below their potential. Like I said 2022 is a wash anyway bc of prior decisions. 8. Sign Cam Robinson or Armstead. 9. Cut Cam. There’s no point anymore. Picks accumulated: 1st, 1st, 3rd, 6th. Spend the picks on the Offense. 2022 draft: 1st - Ekwonu or Neal. I think one of them will be there. Both are pro bowl caliber LTs and also have elite versatility. 1st - Linderbaum - He’s elite but he’s still a center. If we traded Brown I think 20s is where that pick would be. I think this guy would be there. 3rd - Pass on the QB. Take John Metchie if he’s there. Pickens would be a good pick. Need to replace Robbie and also develop behind DJ just in case. Rest of the draft - Grab another OG, TE. 2023 I’m gonna guess that with that offseason and a carousel of Darnold/Walker/Unknown playing QB we will finish with a top 3 pick…if not #1 overall. Fire Rhule. Idk who you hire. Josh McDaniels would probably be top of the list. #1 overall - Bryce Young. Smart, accurate, big arm. He’s a more polished Russell Wilson at this stage of his career. If he can stay injury free he’ll be the 3rd best QB prospect in the last decade behind Luck, Lawrence. Plug him in behind an OL with a bunch of future and current pro bowlers, Chubba, DJ, Marshall, Tremble. Let him go to work with McDaniels. Let the D do what the D has been doing…. 2024 - Playoff hunt behind a defense and running game. Sorry this is a little depressing. But short of some kind of miracle I don’t see another way.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say all these dudes turn Rhule down and Tepper’s hand is forced. Here’s the thing….if you have a good situation like Groh, Gruden, O’Brien then you aren’t leaving to come to a situation where we have a crap OL and no QB. Fitterer (and Tepper) are gonna have to realize that bc they made the wrong choice with keeping Rhule they are now being forced into fixing the roster FIRST…and getting good coaches next. 2022 is going to be a wash. It sucks…but it’s true. Do everything possible to keep the D solid and start to build the OL. This is why you CANNOT spend capital right now on skill players. They’re worthless without a good QB.

The only thing that concerns me a little bit with Ekwonu is that State has always been a team that gets the ball out quick. Developing drops and extensive time in the pocket hasn’t ever been a HUGE part of the game. There is some…but through the 3/4 point of the season last year Leary had thrown 175 passes less than 10 yards and only 90 passes past the 10 yard line. It’s just not an offense that required much longer development.
-
Why Ekwonu makes sense for the Giants Versatility for a lineman is always good to have when entering the NFL Draft. Ekwonu might be the epitome of that. Long arms. Brute strength. Dexterity and nimble feet. He has it all to play anywhere on the line, and the Giants sure could use that type of player. What I picture immediately when viewing Ekwonu in blue and white is a left guard who is stationed right beside Andrew Thomas and holds down that side of the line for years to come. Yes, there’s a chance he could play right tackle, but there’s also a high chance the Giants go with two offensive linemen with both first-round selections. A tackle could be taken before Ekwonu is grabbed off the big board. He’s a proven commodity, being the “most feared lineman in the ACC,” but scouts have also pointed out room for growth, which isn’t a bad thing in the slightest. Ekwonu’s athleticism is on full display each snap and he has drive to get his blocking assignment to the ground, let alone sealed away from the football. Insert “Panthers” for “Giants” and I think if he’s there that’s why he ends up in Charlotte. If Brady works out as the LT then Icky is a pro bowl guard. If Brady is more of a guard then Icky is a pro bowl tackle and probably makes Brady even better. Draft him and let these two run the left side for the next decade.

OLinemen are often injured and heavily relied upon. We need as many good ones as we can get. Start with Armstead, Robinson. Draft Cross or Neal. Make some deals and grab some interior linemen in the 2nd-3rd round. Im not optimistic about drafting a QB this year or getting a starter through FA or trade. Might as well keep building the pieces necessary to support the rookie who comes in 2023. Maybe we’ll suck bad enough to get Young.

I mean we spent #7 overall on a DT considered to be a generational tackle and he’s been a bust. Burns was also mediocre. What were people expecting?

Is there anyone on this roster you wouldn't trade?

Chinn, Horn, Shaq. If you have those three with a solid pass rush then you can build a top 5 defense. I was a big supporter of trading Burns, Brown, CMC after last year to try and get capital for a QB. If we had done that we’d have a HAUL of picks this year and a TON of cap room. Instead all of their values decreased and we still had a sucky season. -
The Browns took on a 5-year $90 million contract and gave up a starting safety, #17 overall and a 3rd rounder for OBJ. All after he basically publicly stated he had no desire to play for their organization. CMC is a pro bowler if he stays healthy. If he’s used right (which apparently we’re incapable of doing) he could play another 5 years as a RB/WR. He played like 4 games this year and finished with 100 yards/game rushing. He’s a stud. Unfortunately he’s being wasted here. So yeah…someone is going to give up a high draft pick and take that en-tire contract. Our boy Marty Hurney is in WFT and they are losing McKissic this year. Heinicke didn’t have a bad year and if there is ANY philosophy that Hurney believes in more than building a solid team around a mediocre QB idk what it is… It wouldn’t shock me AT ALL if Hurney tried to trade for CMC as “the missing piece.” Top 3 Hurneyisms: 1. Always have expensive RBs 2. Build a solid D with as many 1st round LBs as possible 3. If I could only find Jake Delhomme 2.0 we could get that super bowl.
-
Yeah…I mean he’s not chopped liver. If he stays healthy he’s probably one of the best 2-3 RBs in the league. Some other team will be able to figure out how to appropriately use him. They’ll pay for it too in the form of his entire contract and a day 2 pick. Eagles, LAR….a team that basically falls a little short. I could see the Rams saying “we need more weapons for Stafford.”

I don’t exactly understand the Gruden hype. The Jags scored 4 LESS TDs than we did and I’d say their QB situation is quite a bit better…

Panthers Bringing back Rhule. Planning to start OC search next week
unicar15 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Trading for Watson and not upgrading the line I’m convinced would be a huge mistake. They have to figure out a way to do both and the only way you upgrade this line is with 1st round picks. So you better figure out a way to parlay Burns, Brown, CMC into another 1st round pick. -

I fully expect this to be Ken Dorsey….In fact I would be shocked if it’s not. So if you’re counting on Dorsey to save your offense and there isn’t a top 5 QB playing you should probably update your resume. -
I actually think part of the problem for the first two years is Rhule is a very “players coach” type of HC. It sounds like his practices are lax. It doesn’t sound like there is much in the way of “correction” with regard to team deficiencies. Maybe that is part of his shtick. He gets the players on his side, then they buy in, then maybe his style of play works. Idk…seems like that works at the college level. But if your scheme sucks in the NFL not sure how much “support and player buy in” matters.
-
I can’t take another year of losing. Especially with (statistically) one of the best Ds in the league. Trade Burns and CMC to the Texans. But….not for Watson. Trade them for Laremy Tunsil and a 2nd round pick. Tunsil wants out of HOU. He’s a pro bowl LT. Having Burns on a massive deal is going to hold this team back. This also offloads the CMC deal. I agree with trading back. But only because I think a good QB will be available in the 2nd round or bottom of the 1st. Take the C from Iowa in the first round. Find a way to also get Willis from Liberty or Pickett. I think Willis is gonna be limited by his college competition. Pickett by the combine. Idt either goes top 10 (at this point). There is no point in resigning Cam. I agree with resigning Reddick. Let Jackson walk. Resign Gilmore. Trade Darnold for literally anything that eliminates his contract. See if the Jags will trade Minshew so there can be an experienced veteran on the team. Chances are even with those moves well be at the bottom of the league. BUT…you’ve fixed the OL, drafted the future at QB, and kept the defense competitive. Add another piece in 2023 and allow the 2022 QB to succeed with additional pieces.

If we don't resign Jackson and Reddick....
unicar15 replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’d trade Brown as well. I’d also trade Burns if it nets you a QB or LT (even if that’s a 1st round pick). Sign Reddick and roll with the DTs you have. If we end up sinking 100 mil into burns im gonna be angry. -

I definitely don’t expect Jax to be back. I actually think that he’s one reason we brought in so much competing CB talent. Staff sick of the antics and freelance mentality. But he’s got talent so you don’t bench him. As far as Burns and Reddick…I would sign whichever player gives you the most cap flexibility. Reddick has been solid for a few years. Burns is obviously very good too. Just not sure I’d break the bank for him. He’s got 8 sacks. This franchise been down the “Im the best DE in the league but I routinely post 10 or less sacks” road with other contracts in the past. Not worth it. -
Panthers taking offers for Cmac in the off-season

I cringed when Marty gave him that contract. I was hoping that he’d turn out to be more of a receiver than a runner…but for whatever reason they never pursued that path. -

Can someone please make a thread of every single post on here that said before the season…”we should trade CMC in a package for an ACTUAL quarterback.” He’s got Lev Bell type injury history now. Who is going to give us fair value. STOP getting attached to particular players. Unless his name is Brady, Rodgers, Allen, Watson, Wilson….they are replaceable.
