What's your confidence level in Canales?
CPantherKing replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Canales and the development of his receivers has been the bright spot this season. Canales just needs to be given more control as a HC. It appears they're keeping him locked in an OC role with some extended personnel say after he proves there needs to be a change while carrying the HC title. -
Garrett Wilson eyeing Bryce Young
CPantherKing replied to thunderraiden's topic in Carolina Panthers
Garrett Wilson was the player I wanted top 10 if we couldn't trade back for a core defender like Kyle Hamilton in 2022. Get him! He's a leader and competitor. Not a diva. -
Another former NFL QB breaks down Bryce Young's game vs. ATL
CPantherKing replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Playcalling on offense was exceptional. Falcons got outcoached. Receivers were near perfect with good hands and several athletic plays with the ball in the air. Thielen and Coker were extremely precise. Running game was consistent with some very good blocking. Young had a good day with several single reads thrown to a point and hot passes for the receivers to make plays. Young only needed to complete a handful of passes beyond his first read. -
Point in time rankings? How does Young go up 3 spots to 14 after getting thumped by the Bucs? So, we can expect he jumps up 6 spots to the 8th spot after his career best against the Falcons? Seems legit

You're not noticing though. Stroud had 6 career games in 2023 including 1 in the playoffs. He's fallen back to a level that's still above Young's best with 2 career games in 2024 with 300+ and a playoff game to come. He has 8 sub-200 games. He has 2 division titles with a 27.8% GWD success rate. Young had 2 career games in 2023 and 2 more in 2024. He has a 21.4% GWD success rate. He has one 300+ game to his name and 17 sub-200 games. Stroud had to slump to get to a level higher than Young. Young had to improve to get to a level lower than Stroud. Young has some catching up to do for him to be at Stroud's lowest point. Excuses need to stop about Young's supporting crew too. He has Hubbard, Thielen, Coker, J.Sanders and XL as his top 5 targets. The top 5 targets are 80% of a passing offense. Who do you think is holding Young back? Who are you replacing? In 2024, Stroud's top 5 targets have a 67.3% catch rate and a 52.9% success rate. Young's top 5 targets have a 72.3% catch rate and a 48.7% success rate. Hubbard is the one bringing down the passing success rate. Outside of Hubbard v Mixon after the catch, The Panthers have the better receiving unit. We're to believe the excuse that the skill position players and playcalling are holding back Young? #noticebetter

The undrafted players are always out there. You need the scouts who know how to spot them and the GMs who know how to elevate these scouts in the decision room. The scout who found Coker is the same scout who found Kenny Dyson Jr. Should have given them both more snaps this season.

A 12 yard post TD on blown coverage. Tremble had no one covering him and he's the first read off the single high safety movement. This is an expected throw of all QBs when a single high safety cheats with no help 10 out of 10 times. The only thing close to epic on this play is the play design on 4th and 1. A big heavy right formation (typically run or strong rollout); They ran Christensen on a crossing route to pull the CB left while having Tremble on a corner-post to pull the safety to the right corner. The CB gave high coverage to Christensen who was already covered by a LB. The CB was suppose to be in range of a post throw.

Nick Foles, Mitchell Trubisky, Daniel Jones, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mark Rypien, Tommy Kramer, Jameis Winston, Matt Flynn, Baker Mayfield, and Sam Darnold all achieved this career best scoring feat. Last I checked most here believe these QBs weren't good enough to be franchise QBs. Young is not on track to be better than 9 of those 10 QBs. I'd even argue Matt Flynn would out produce Bryce Young if a team held onto him for 2 to 3 seasons instead of 7 starts.
-
The Bryce fans don't want to accept standards or base lines. They won't even grade him on a curve of the past 3 QB draft classes or the entire 2024 starting field. They hold other QBs to a higher standard than Bryce. I expect 2 more years of this with fans waiting for 2 to 3 good games a season to hope he can be a franchise QB the following season.
-
Did you not read that these career bests happen for a majority of QBs 1 to 2 times in their career? Top 10 championship caliber QBs get 1 or 2 per season. As for you claiming career games, let's set the standard at 3+ TDs or 300+ yard and 2 TDs. Setting the bar low for Bryce is ridiculous, because back up QBs can do what Bryce does. Bryce has 4 in 2 seasons. I expect 6 minimum in 1 season. That's between Kyle Allen with 4 and Beuerlein with 8. QBs that can make it to a conference championship game consistently produce 10+ (these are the QBs you can build a dyansty around). Nick Foles was capable of doing 1 of every 2 games in a season like Beuerlein. Now you know. Maybe adjust your lowered expectations?
-
Thank you! This is my point. Young can get to that level, but he cost way too much for that return. Beuerlein still needed competition & ultimately (if he was kept on roster) would have had to be replaced with Delhomme if he was producing 5 or fewer wins per season. Bryce fantatics think anything less than seeing him as a top 10 QB or seeing his game as perfection is hate.
-
Rough day? Young had a career day and the Panthers won. A losing season always hurts though and requires tough changes. Must understand where each position stands against their competition. Upgrades are what we need. Not hope and projects. I was a backer for Beuerlein too as he improved the team during a rebuild and had them at the doorstep of the playoffs. If Beuerlein was consistently struggling while producing 5 or fewer wins even with a career day, he would have needed to be replaced too. The danger for the franchise is going into the offseason hyping up underperforming players to championship levels who are average at best compared to the league competition.

Are you telling me this is his one 5 TD game of his career & it's all downhill from here? OR He's a PB MVP QB who can CONSISTENTLY have 3+ TD games to carry his team to division championships & contend for the SB? Eye test saids it's his career best game. They all have 1 or 2 of these career games. Will it take him another 30 starts to get his second? We'll be lucky as fans if he gets to the level of Steve Beuerlein or Ryan Fitzpatrick. That will make him an easy to acquire above average QB, but nothing worthy of what was given up to acquire an average to above average QB.
-
This is the best game of his career & it took Bryce 28 starts to do what Dalton did in his 2nd start as a Panther. Consistency is needed. Can't go 5 games to have 1 win like this. That's why I refer to Bryce as flash & crash. This was Penix's 2nd start. Is Penix a franchise QB after looking good? Let's hope this is Bryce's coming out game. Can't get thumped by the Saints, Bucs & Cowboys over a 12 game season only to hang your hat on a Falcons OT win. He had 3 OT wins against teams that didn't make the playoffs & 1 close win against another team that didn't make the playoffs. The hope right now is that Bryce is good enough to consistently split wins with the losing teams in the NFC South. He's still at the bottom of NFL starters with new rookies coming in & veteran backups as good of not better than Bryce. He's below Mayfield, Carr, Cousins and possibly Penix (too early, but better start to career) in the NFC South. Caleb Williams, Daniel Jones & Kyler Murray were the worst starters for their NFC division. Bryce has had to improve to be on par with them & those 3 may still have the edge on Young. The worst starters in the AFC were Gardner Minshew, Will Levis, Derek Maye & Deshaun Watson. I'd take Bryce over Minshew, Levis & maybe Jones. I'd also take some backups over Bryce. Then you have the QBs in the next draft who will challenge Bryce quickly. I fully expect hype from his best game leading to confusion & excuses for Bryce as to why the Panthers continue to lose next season.
-
Actually, Bridgewater did have a 5 TD game like this in his 2nd season as he led the Vikings to the playoffs. Then he had a season ending injury before his 3rd season began. That was the end of his career as a starter. Bryce Young is still behind what Bridgewater did in his first 2 seasons.

Week 18 Game Thread: Cats vs Birds

This! You can build a SB offense with day 3 & undrafted players. Just use patience to select the rare freak or pedigree offensive player like Randy Moss or CMC in the 1st round. Ride a vet 28 to 32 yr old QB. When the defense is loaded with young talent, go after a luxury 1st rd QB pick like Mahomes or Roethlisberger if the vet QB can't get it done in the playoffs. This has been the championship formula for decades that the Bill Walsh tree keeps rolling out. -

Weak throws let the DB break & time it. Comeback route, so the DB never turns the receiver at the waist & they're both looking at the ball. QB needs to fire that ball to receiver to beat the break on a comeback route against a zone coverage. -

Not when it's delivered on a line over the DBs shoulder. If it hangs & makes the receiver stop on route to wait allowing defender to catch up, that's an underthrow. -

It's the scheme & playcalling. There are players who can get pressure if they're allowed to attack. Just waiting for Atlanta to make mistakes. That's Evero for you.
