Official Cardinals at Panthers GameDay Thread
CPantherKing replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Every NFL coach comes with the same game plan against Rhule. Have a 4 minute offense ready and slow play the Panthers for 3 quarters to keep the score low. Cardinals obviously have plays ready to go to expose the Panthers defense. They are just going to use them in the 2nd half if they are trailing or closing the game out at the end of the 4th quarter. If this Panthers offense cannot produce more than 17 points a game, this team needs to change leadership/culture. -

Aqeel Glass, Cooper Rush, Brett Rypien, Shane Buechele, Tyler Huntley, Jack Coan, Nick Mullens, or John Wolford. I'd take the combo of Kyle Allen/Taylor Heinicke over Baker/Darnold. Most of these QBs are 1 injury from starting in the NFL and none of them are drafted. Andy Reid keeps hiding Buechele on their roster. -

Bringing in 3 undrafted QBs is a better plan than swinging for the fences with these failed 1st round QBs -

Why would anyone take QBs like these in the 1st round of the draft? -

lesson learned. Don't ever trust your franchise to an Oklahoma QB. -

Brian Burns always seems to lose track of the football. The ball pops up in the air and falls to the ground around him. He can't find the ball. Big problem for an NFL pass rusher -

Featuring the slow lumbering Ian Thomas in the offense? Seems like Rhule wants to feature his questionable roster decisions to prove his point that he is a genius... -

Now, Ickey struggles blocking down in goalline offensive packages? He let that defender through a hole way too large on 4th an 1 dive play -
My philosophy: You win control of the game in the trenches. Pick up what the defense gives you around OL in the flats or LoS. You win momentum with big play returners and playmaking WRs You win close games and playoff games in the last 4 minutes with a highly refined and intelligent QB with a a strong hero instinct in pressure situations and a patient approach to setting up a defense. You win championships with 4 champion level leaders on defense who can study film with the best of the league, consistently create turnovers, communicate well pre snap, and has a disruption% of 60% or greater. My KPIs to know how good a team is are control ratio, OffPlymaking%, GWD conversion, and disruption rate. (custom metrics)

If you're name isn't Manning, Brady, or Roethlisberger over the past 15 years, you are only walking away with 1 ring. If you are hoping to get this type of QB, you are the one on hopium. (13 of the last 21 SB Champions). Stafford, Mahomes, Foles, Wilson, Flacco, Rodgers, Brees, Johnson, Dilfer, and Warner are what you are left with playing in a SB during the 21st century. It still holds true. 5 non-elite and 5 elite. You don't need an elite QB to win a SB. Panthers, 49ers, Ravens, Bucs, and Rams have been to the the SB multiple times this century and they didn't need an elite QB behind center every time to make that happen. Packers and Saints had elite QBs this century and they didn't see the SB as many times as teams with non-elite QBs. The Lions had an elite QB and never saw the SB. Chargers had an elite QB and never saw the SB. Carson Palmer was an elite QB for the Bengals and Cards without any SB appearance. Cards SB was with Warner (a non-elite QB). So, no. There is no definitive advantage to having an elite QB unless you win the QB lottery and get a Manning, Roethlisberger or Brady. Elite QBs do not dominate the NFL and never will.

Baker stinks at producing a GWD. 32 L, 7 GWD, 18% W. Darnold: 32 L, 4 GWD, 11% W Foles: 27 L, 13 GWD, 33% W Flacco: 80 L, 25 GWD, 24% W Jimmy G: 15 L, 10 GWD, 40% W Given 10 opportunities to come from behind and win a game in the 4th quarter, Jimmy G wins 4 times, Foles wins 3 times, Flacco wins 2 times, Mayfield wins 1 time, and Darnold wins 1 time. This was consistent with their college opportunities and will remain consistent in the NFL. This is when the defense fails to maintain the lead and the running game fails to control the game. The preferred QB room would be 1) Jimmy G, 2) Foles, 3) Flacco to cover for a defense and running game when they fail to control and close out a game. Baker, Darnold, Walker is by far a lesser QB room and little to no shot at winning a game if the D and running game cannot carry the team. None of these QBs are elite, but you can win in the playoffs and win a SB with the Jimmy G, Foles, Flacco QB room.
-
Nick Foles, Joe Flacco, Brad Johnson, Kurt Warner, Mark Rypien, Jeff Hostetler, Doug Williams, Phill Simms, Jim McMahon, Jim Plunkett, and Joe Theismann all have a ring since the 80s, and they are not elite QBs. Bill Walsh would argue that you don't need an elite QB and would not call Montana an elite QB. Gibbs won the SB with 3 non-elite QBs. Parcells won the SB with 2 non-elite QBs. 1 of 4 SBs are won by non-elite QBs. Elite QBs win 1 of 4 SBs. Dynastic QBs win 2 of 4 SBs. You could run with Flacco and Foles as your teams 2 QBs in 2022 and win the SB with a championship level coach.

He is one of the most targeted WRs in the NFL. His catch %, redzone production, yards per target, and TDs per target are among the lowest in the NFL. He has had a funnel aimed at him for years. We are still waiting for production and playmaking ability. I miss the days of having a WR respected so much by the defense they sit 2 defenders on him all day and will even bracket him with 3 defenders. Meanwhile, that #1 WR still wins and never gives up on routes or bailing out a QB in a scramble drill. I wanted to draft Diggs, but the Panthers failed to see it. Diggs had all the qualities to be a #1 playmaker and he goes in the 5th round. Moore goes in the 1st round. I'll never understand how these front offices keep missing the players who show they will translate well to the NFL.

Ekwonu at LT is a consistent problem in the passing game

Take a look at the timing routes. Baker is throwing the ball where Moore should be. I don't think Baker will win a team a championship, but you can't blame him for a receiver who cuts at 9 yards instead of 10 yards because he doesn't want to come across the face of the DB, get body position, and fight for separation.
-
You can put blame on Moore too. His routes are lazy. He gets overpowered by the DBs at the top of his routes. He fails to fight through the final yard of his route before his cut on a timing route. He fails to execute the scramble drill when he is the hot receiver causing his QB to hold it since Moore chooses not to keep the play alive. He gives up on routes when he decides he lost to the DB. Moore has done this with Cam, Allen, Teddy, Darnold, and now Baker. There is a reason when the field gets tight in the redzone and it becomes more physical Moore disappears. A good #1 WR would bail these QBs out, and Moore does not get that done. I believe Moore could be a great #2 like Isaac Bruce or John Taylor. He has proven over 5 years that he can't change a game as the #1.
-
DJ is getting the targets. He's just not catching the ball. Same with Robby. Drop squad. QB is awful too. Offensive system is average at best for the NFL.

Mark Brunell, Kurt Warner, Steve Beuerlein, Peyton Manning, Brian Griese, Dameyune Craig, Matt Hasselbeck, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, David Garrard, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Colin Kaepernick, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, Derek Carr, Patrick Mahomes, Desmond Ridder and Aqeel Glass are the only QBs I have approved of as a potential Panthers franchise QB. So, I approve! Go get him. He is a 20 year QB. He has 30 GWD in 8 seasons. He has never gone a season without a GWD. On pace for 75 career GWD. Current GWD record is held by Peyton and Brady at 54. He knows how to avoid taking hits and keeps his INTs down. Of the active QBs from my approved list, Mahomes and Glass are the only QBs I would want over Carr. Brady and Rodgers I would put above Carr, but they do not have the franchise longevity that Carr has for potential career going into 2022.

It's a formation they were using to set up an eventual run to Moore later in the game on 4th down that they called a timeout on. This is a 4th down formation the Panthers use. This play was an incomplete pass to Ricci on 4th and 4. The design is to free up the coverage on the TE with 2 wide on 4th and short. The safety bites on Ricci after seeing it the first time and Moore goes into motion to take the handoff with open field. The safety favored Ricci on that 4th down they called a timeout on and Moore was uncovered when he went in motion. My guess is Baker messed up the presnap read and timing to Moore on the following 4th down.
-
This was the formation they were trying to get the Saints with on an eventually 3rd and short with a hand off to Moore when he motions across. They eventually were going to run the play and hand it off to Moore I believe on a 4th and short, but Baker or a coach called a timeout and aborted the handoff to Moore. Moore was frustrated and threw his hands up as he motioned across. So, just a big waste of time setting up the Saints for nothing.
