31st in allowing rushing 1st downs. 30th in allowing rushing yards. Tied for dead last in fumbles lost. Tied for 29th in allowing rushing TDs. He was moved to NT because he sucked at 3 tech. Teams still run right at Brown and Burns as their main game plan. Result is 7 wins and 3 losses. Would you want to be called the DL rock of that defense? I'd imagine you'd be aiming to get replaced. He makes some hero plays. He had a good game in a win against one of the worst team in the NFL. He is run at all the time and teams win more than they lose. Teams give him plenty of opportunities to pad those stats because they know he makes a lot of mistakes and missed tackles while tiring out quickly and giving up on plays when he is beat. He seemingly played a full game without being lazy and giving up against the Falcons. The result was a win. Someone got on him and he was motivated. Let's see him stay motivated and stop the running game like a SB contending NT can do week in and week out. Let's see offenses give up on game planning to run up the middle on him. This DL is horrible against the run and can barely tackle. They are built to be a speed rush college DL. If all they had to do was pressure and rush the passer, this D would be #1. Too bad teams can screen pass and run on them easily.

Called it before the season. Continue to be right while I watch multimillionaire coaches and GMs get it wrong. CMC would be destroying with Bozeman at C instead of Elf. Move Ickey to the interior and this OL is the best in the NFL. -

Falco s just attacked Brown and Burns on that drive. Took advantage of them going hero mode and overplaying. Not taking care of team responsibility -

Shenault has much more big play ability than DJ. He sees the field and uses blocks so much better while being where he is suppose to be for the QB. If we had Shenaults playmaking ability, fight, and power with DJs speed, talent and athleticism we would have an ultimate #1 WR. Could Shenault be the Jerry Rice to DJs John Taylor? -

With the Wilks move I expect Tepper to push for Byron Leftwich as HC. Leftwich would keep Wilks on as DC and bring Clyde Christensen with him as OC. Smart move would be to keep a HC/GM connection which would point to Rob McCartney becoming the new GM of the Carolina Panthers. Rob McCartney comes from the Bucs and has ties to Leftwich, Tepper, and the Steelers. He has grown up around the Steelers since the age of 5 and has impacted the Bucs roster that led to the Bucs winning the SB. Christensen, Leftwich, and McCartney have shown an interest in Aqeel Glass, but lost out to GM Licht keeping his guy Trask in the 3rd QB spot behind Brady and Gabbert. You would have a HC/GM/OC/QB linked from the start. Doug Williams would be an interesting link too that could follow Leftwich as an advisor, and Williams has been big on Glass' NFL potential. All would have an inside look at the Bucs. I would expect Corral to still be in the mix as a Tepper pick with personal ties to Tepper too. I could also see Peyton Ramsey make a return if the Leftwich crew is the way Tepper goes.

Also, he has produced 9 GWD when the running game, coaching, and defense have lost control of the game. He accounts for being the major factor in 1 out of every 5 wins for the Ravens. His GWD% is 38% (this is what is expected from a good QB on a bad team). I believe he is worth the risk compared to going after a Darnold, Mayfield, or Watson. What concerns me is that his QB style is expected to be 9 seasons. Good pocket passers are 12 to 15 seasons. With 5 seasons under his belt, he is not a QB for a team rebuild. He is a plug and play QB for a team that has spent 2 to 3 seasons building a foundation for a QB. The Rams or 49ers would be good examples of a team that would benefit from a QB like Jackson. The Panthers do not have a contender foundation. They gave that up when they shipped off CMC and tossed out the Snow college speed D. There are no playmakers on offense and the defense will need a complete rebuild. The Panthers are set up with a good OL and some complimentary receivers with a few good defensive pieces for an NFL level defense. This team is better equipped to find a HC with NFL experience who has proven he can develop NFL QBs and go with a young QB to develop for his system in 2 seasons.

Burns is a pass specialist and not a complete NFL DE. He is a very good pass specialist. He was overrated in the draft coming out of college. At this point in his career, he does not appear to be getting any better against the run with his fundamentals. He is a playmaker for a championship team, but he is not a championship leader/captain. He has been pushed into roles as leader, run defense/containment and pass coverage. He is weak at these areas. He is best served as a pass specialist, playmaker, and role player. He is similar to Von Miller, but Von Miller at this late stage of his career is still better than Brian Burns. This is NOT hate. Burns has weaknesses and I believe a good coach would be honest about that to create a championship team. Burns, like CMC, are key pieces to a championship team imo, they are just not the foundational pieces you should build an offense or defense around.

He does have connections to Byron Leftwich. That is the only angle I have seen to taking on Wilks and making him interim HC. Leftwich will likely choose Wilks to be his DC where he ends up as a HC.

You need a LT who can let the QB play with patience against the top NFL edge rushers in the NFL. It did not matter who the QB was with what Hendrickson was allowed to do until he left the game in the 3rd quarter to celebrate his dominance.

Who thinks Wilks and PJ are still the answers?
CPantherKing replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ickey and the RBs did not do PJ any justice in the first half. PJ is just a below average QB. DJ Moore should be bailing him out. Ickey should be keeping Hendrickson from being in PJs face for the entire 1st half. When PJ has to carry the offense, you know the players who are suppose to be NFL starters and 1st round picks are worse than a below average NFL QB. -
You act like it takes forever to review 32 plays for a single player. Took 10 minutes. I could say Ickey struggled against Hendrickson causing several problems for PJ and ending drives in the first half, and had his success in garbage time against back-ups, but people would just push that aside and think he was one of the better OTs in the NFL with his pass blocking. So, I just put his plays out there. They can argue with the plays and Hendrickson's success against Ickey. Ickey can be an all pro guard. He is not even in the top 20 of LTs in the NFL.

1st pass play. Hendrickson comes around Ickey to make the stop from behind the screen pass. 1st down if Ickey stays with his block. Result is a punt. 2nd pass play. Roll out. Ickey doesn't have to pass block from LT position. 3rd pass play. Ickey is beat bad by Hendrickson and PJ has to twist and turn to get away from the sack. He escapes the pocket and throws an incomplete pass with the timing route messed up due to Ickey. Result punt. 4th pass play. Ickey get beat bad to his inside on a stunt letting Hendrickson get leverage on BC and in the face of PJ. Slow to pick up the stunt on the DT. Result is no passing lane for PJ and a quick check down under pressure to Blackshear. 5th pass play. Swing pass. No pass blocking necessary. 6th pass play. Double team with BC on one defender. No pass rush. 7th pass play. 1st good block with a pass set. 8th pass play: WR screen. Ickey makes the wrong read and goes after the wrong defender. Ickeys defender has a free run at PJ and PJ rushes the screen pass. Incomplete. 9th pass play: Hendrickson stunts inside beating Ickey bad. Hendrickson blows up the pocket and pressures PJ to step up in the pocket and scramble for a 6 yard gain. 10th pass play: Hendrickson whips around the outside of Ickey. Ickey lunges for air. Hendrickson levels PJ, but PJ gets the ball away to throw it out of bounds and not take the sack. Result is another punt on back to back horrible plays by Ickey. 11th pass play: Ickey with a good kick step and protects PJs blind side for a completed 3 yard pass. 12th pass play: Ickey with a good set and block on the pass with a straight 4 man rush. --- End of PJ --- 3 good - 3 neutral - 6 bad 13th pass play: Ickey has no rusher. Blocks down on BCs defender. 14th pass play: Ickey gets put on skates and bull rushed into Mayfield's lap. Mayfield get the pass off before Mayfield has to dodge Ickey. 15th pass play: Ickey with a good block on a quick out. 16th pass play: Ickey is put on skates being bull rushed into Mayfield. BC saves Ickey on a quick check down by Mayfield. 17th pass play: Ickey stops Hendrickson for the 1st time with a good punch. 18th pass play: Ickey pass sets well and stones his Hendrickson giving Mayfield the time to throw the first TD of the game. 7-35 3Q 19th pass play: Ickey with a good punch on the DT from the inside. Hendrickson dropped into coverage. 20th pass play: Ickey is tricked by Hendrickson to set wide. Hendrickson beats Ickey inside and levels Mayfield. Mayfield throws the ball up and it falls incomplete. Results in a punt. --- backups come in to play for the Bengals going into the 4th quarter --- 3 good - 2 neutral - 3 bad 21st pass play: Ickey with a good set and stops his pass rusher. 22nd pass play: Ickey with a good kick step and stops his pass rusher. 23rd pass play: Ickey with a good set and stops the backup pass rusher. 24th pass play: Ickey picks up the stunt. 25th pass play: Defender drops into coverage. Ickey blocks down on DT. 26th pass play: Ickey locks up his defender on a screen pass. 27th pass play: Good pass set. Stops pass rusher. 28th pass play: Good pass set. Pass rusher does not try to rush. 29th pass play: Good kick step. Pass rusher is hesitant to make a move. 30th pass play: Slow pass set. Poor pass rush. No pressure from rusher. 31st pass play: Ickey sets too wide and gets beat inside. BC bails him out with his defender in Mayfield's face during the pass. 32nd pass play: OL fires off the line near the GL. No pass set. Quick pass. --- end of game --- 9 good - 2 neutral - 1 bad When it matters; 6 good - 5 neutral - 9 bad. Hendrickson had his way with Ickey. Add in garbage time v back-ups; 15 good - 7 neutral - 10 bad. Ickey pads his play against 3rd team DE. You are welcome. Ickey struggled when it mattered and cost the Panthers a few drives. Opinion unchanged. He is an all pro guard and sucks against NFL speed rushers at OT.
