  1. Virgil Carter with the Bengals. Dan Fouts with the Chargers. Steve Young with the 49ers. Brett Favre with the Packers. Kurt Warner with the Rams. Matt Hasselbeck with the Seahawks. Drew Brees with the Saints. Nick Foles with the Eagles. There's many more. Just about every successful QB has had to change their mechanics. The key is finding a QB whisperer with leadership qualities & extend his impact as a WR/TE coach while demonstrating an ability to make in game adjustments.
  2. And Cletus Blakeman is a lifelong Broncos fan!
  3. Sportsology trying to hook up Ken Dorsey with a HC job? The writing is on the wall. Dan Morgan & Ken Dorsey reunited for a 3rd time? Throw in Ed Reed for DC to hit the hat trick & reunite the 2000 Miami Hurricane leaders. They knew how to win & build a culture. It'll be fun!
  4. He was the previous GMs right hand. He was Teppers right pinky finger. He was responsible for delivering the assessments & information on players & trade potential to Fitterer. He doesn't need to answer for his part in all of the mess which is tied directly to Fitterer's decisions? He wasn't just an intern or analyst that sat outside the decision making process. I hope he's more like Beane, but the last 3 years with defensive improvements, defensive drafting & the LB moves I have some concerns.
  5. With that you go against your original comments. Hurney was a key part of that roster building. Morgan was agreed upon. Jenkins was spotted by Jack & his scouts. Care to tell me who spotted Smith? It wasn't Jack & his scouts Chris Weinke was 100% Jack/Polian QB scouting model. I hope Dan Morgan can spot the Steve Smiths & be open to backing them even with their faults as a person while steering clear of the Weinkes.
  6. Did Jack report to Marty or did Marty report to Jack? Think about this one. Was Jack doing the hiring & administration of all facets of the team or simply heading up the scouting department like Dan has been doing for a few years with the Panthers? You need to go back & look at how Seifert & JR delegated responsibility to Jack & Marty. I hope Dan is more Marty&Brandon than Jack&David.
  7. He was that previous staff. He was next to Seifert. Hurney was with the team in 1998 after Polian & brought in his protégé in Beane. They took over roster building/administration under Seifert & immediately put together a 1999 contender that would lead to a SB roster including Dan Morgan. Prior to that Hurney came from the Chargers & helped lead them to a SB roster under Beathard. Didn't realize the roster was built with Hurney while Seifert lost a competitive team with his coaching decisions & fallout with Musgrave?
  8. Beane was under Hurney. Took over as interim GM in 2012. Gettleman was hired over Beane in 2013 (bad decision). Beane had to see Gettleman tear down the work he did as part of the team under Hurney since 1998. Gettleman was suppose to keep Beane around to be the eventual Panthers GM. Gettleman set up Beane & McDermott to be hired by Buffalo following the 2016 season. Guess Gettleman thought it would cement his future as Panthers GM. Gettleman had a falling out after this stunt & in a few months was fired before the 2017 training camp opened. Hurney came back but Gettlemans damage was done & the Bills profited. 4 years forced under Gettleman & 15 years under Hurney.
  9. You do realize Hurney put together the foundational rosters for 2 panthers eras that were in the playoffs consistently, won division titles & went to 2 SBs? Bad GMs can't even improve a roster to get to the playoffs after the previous GMs foundation has been cleared out. Then there are the ones that ride the coattails of the previous GM & claim it as their success.
  10. He's not a hire. He's a promotion for his success with the organization. Call it what it is. I want to know the success credited to Morgan. Do you?
  11. That's why Morgan gets at most 2 years for me. Hope he is more like Beane. I don't see anything from the past 3 seasons that would suggest that. Your hope is he was merely given a title of assistant GM & just watched with no significant participation while choosing to leave a successful team. I doubt that though.
  12. Leaders of a culture need to be held accountable for their lack of success. Morgan is one of those leaders with a poor record of success over the past 3 years when it comes to improving the team through identifying NFL talent. As assistant GM he would also be involved in trade & roster building construction beyond scouting. What improvements do you see that have been made (especially on defense) over the last 3 seasons that show you a future decade of NFL playoff dominance for the Panthers? Where are the leaders to build around? He chose to follow Fitterer & leave Beane. Would you call that a bad decision/evaluation?
  13. I hope he is more Beane than Fitterer, but the lack of improvement of defensive personnel over the past 3 seasons doesn't speak well of him being like Beane. Too many misses at LB & leadership for me just as a starting point in the evaluation of Dan Morgan the executive.
  14. Remind me of the picks/trades Morgan had his name on over the past 3 drafts? Does he claim any of them or did he have 0 influence over the past 3 seasons? How many LBs did he evaluate in the draft with success? DJ Johnson? Brandon Smith? Did he push to trade up? Have the Panthers gotten better or worse at LB since Ron Rivera? This would be the first & easiest test for Morgan. I do not agree with his draft & scouting process either. Let's hope he was just parroting Fitterer & he completely changes that up too. Is he on board with Burns being a key part of the Panthers future & not more valuable in a trade with a team like the Rams? Will he break the bank for Burns? Since he's been in place & comes with the previous culture, which will be doubled down on imo, I give him 1 to 2 seasons to show playoff success & at least win in the NFC South. How has the Panthers defense improved over the past 3 seasons (especially in the draft)? DJ Johnson, Jammie Robinson, Brandon Smith, Amare Barno, Kalon Barnes, Jaycee Horn, Dayvion Nixon, Keith Taylor & Phil Hoskins? It's been musical chairs for defensive positions not signed off on by Marty Hurney with 1 exception in Luvu. Can Morgan claim that 1 win with the defensive roster in 3 seasons? GL Morgan. You have a lot of cleaning up to do & you know you've helped in making the mess.
  15. If Brandon Brown comes with Mike Kafka HC & Shea Tierney OC, then that would be a big win & a signal Teppers are giving up football control. Halaby seems more of a fit as a personal Harvard data analyst to the Teppers who would make the decisions from Halaby presentations. That would make me see the Carolina Panthers fully moving into the Carolina Appaloosas evolution. Hedge fund football at its finest collecting distressed players & coaches. My money's on Halaby.
  16. You may want to look at what has happened to the regular season winners when they meet the team they beat in the SB. You understand that is regular season? Weaker defenses & good QBs who aren't clutch can be taken advantage of in wild card & divisional rounds, but when the best defenses are left standing & it's an elimination game don't ever expect a blow out. These coaches do not risk their players or clutch plays for a regular season win when they're in the driver seat. If anything, the Ravens gave more away in that win & it'll come back to bite them. Do you believe the Ravens will be the exception if they face the 49ers?
  17. He was the most primed QB to win his first SB to start the season. He needs to show he can be calm & focused in the clutch when he can't simply blow out an NFL defense. Mahomes & Purdy stand in his way. He will outperform Goff in a close 4Q. I had 3 acceptable QB scenarios over the past 2 offseasons for the Panthers & trading picks for Lamar was #2. Trading up for Stroud & pairing him with Garrett Wilson was #3. I expect Harbaugh to struggle against Reid again & it will come down to the final 4 minutes of the game with good defense on both sides. The QB who keeps his team calm & executes while leaving hero mode behind will win the game. It's been a fun postseason, but the historical numbers are still playing out the same.
  18. This is why QBs who can't flex at the combine will still be an NFL championship QB. They need to be prepared to lead those championship drives. Let the other players around you show their combine flex. I'll take a Joe Montana, Joe Theismann, Mark Rypien, Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, Brad Johnson, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson & Nick Foles in the draft any day & load up on elite defensive or freakish offensive talent in the 1st round instead of wasting it on a 1st round QB. The exception will always be a pro athlete pedigree 1st round QB like the Mannings, Luck, or Mahomes who have been around pro sports as a child & come with elite mentors. Any other 1st round QB is going to come up short in the NFL without being dropped into a ready made SB contender with a 1st round luxury pick. That's how I see it & decades of NFL data continue to prove true.
  19. Josh Allen, Justin Herbert & Lamar Jackson are all the same. They can get you to the finish line but they stumble & lose the race. None are championship clutch. They will all lose their focus when it heats up & they think they need to be the hero.
  20. Josh Allen's going to panic in the clutch & lose track of the situation while going for the big play everytime in every big game.
  21. Kelce & Rice are the reasons why the Chiefs are leading
  22. Good. Bring him & Beane back to Carolina. Beane should have been GM in 2013 & McDermott should have been made HC following the 2016 season. His kryptonite is Andy Reid who will stay in the AFC. He knows how to beat Belichick too.
  23. John Harbaugh is 2-6 against his mentor/teacher Andy Reid. Reid knows how to prepare for his students like McDermott & Harbaugh.
  24. Classic Andy Reid v Sean McDermott Reid knows his defensive pupils & always seems to play them punch for punch to line up a 4 minute game. Then Reid manages the clock better & has a few scripted drives to go to to end the game & exploit his pupils' weaknesses.
  25. James Cook. Dalvin Cook. Would be great to see them on the same team. They may be facing each other next week.
