Imagine what Thielen was sold on by Fitterer, Tepper and Reich when he came to the Panthers? Until Bryce and Evero are out of the picture, I expect everyone to avoid this team even if they want to work with Canales.

Looks like we're headed into another overhyped QB class. I'll pass. Maybe take the best available QB who falls to the late 1st to 2nd round if the Panthers are unsuccessful in free agency. Allar has some glaring weaknesses his coaches are trying to hide with the play calls. Illinois (twice), Wisconsin, Ohio State (twice), Michigan, and Ole Miss games tell me he is a project at best.

It's clear Canales works better with veteran QBs than he does young QBs who need 4 to 5 years to mature. Load him up with a Delhomme, Warner and Garoppolo type QB room and you'll likely see a better result. Use the early draft to strengthen the run defense at DL, LB and SS.

This includes Trevor Lawrence, Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Paxton Lynch, Mitchell Trubisky, DeShaun Watson, Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Fields, Mac Jones, Jordan Love, and Zach Wilson. Hard pass. Starting stats just show us how many wasted opportunities teams will take on these way too young over hyped college QBs. QB: should be drafted 3rd round or later. Desperate for a QB, draft late 1st or 2nd round. Never draft a QB in the top 20 picks unless you're putting up 10+ win seasons with a good QB room and need to develop a future starter. RB/WR are 3rd round or later. If they project to be an NFL ready day 1 starter, then round 2. If they are a multidimensional threat in the run, pass and return game with excellent hands, tracking and body control, then round 1. TE: Look to trade for a developed starter. Draft TEs in top 60 who drop to 3rd round. Luxury pick if you're a consistent 10+ winning team in the late 1st or 2nd round. OL: Day 3 pick in the 4th or later. 2nd/3rd round pick for players projecting to be immediate starters and a core leader on the OL. Luxury pick of a 1st round OT if you're a consistent 10+ win team. All 1st round picks should default to defensive players in the middle of the field/playing in the box if there are no rare 1st/2nd round offensive exceptions. No luxury pass rush specialists, CB, or coverage FS in 1st round (2nd round at the earliest). This draft strategy would mean over the past 10 drafts since 2015 the Panthers have been selecting luxury picks and not consistently adding to their core defense in the first 2 rounds with run defenders at DL, LB & S. Championship offense can be built entirely from 3rd round and later picks while using free agency and UDFAs to fill it out. Insert the rare 1st round multidimensional skill player on offense a few times a decade and you're a championship contender.

It's a plug for QB Summit. They work with all the teams and sell them on their college QBs as 1st round picks that are too young to perform at a championship level. Eisen and Palmer are large parts of the problem. Palmer would never say don't pick a 1st round QB unless the team is ready for them. He would rather teams struggle with a Bryce Young or Blaine Gabbert using their development programs for 6 to 8 years before getting any return from them. Meanwhile, the teams that know how to work the QB position and build for championships have 2 to 3 year turnarounds while dominating the league. Palmer told the world not to study the champions. You don't have to draft them. Many don't, and the ones that do will not draft them in the 1st round to develop them for 6 years. You can have 2 to 3 of them in any offseason. The Vikings did it this year with Darnold, Mullens and Rypien. Darnold may need 1 or 2 more seasons to be ready, but he's close to leading a team to a championship game. The Chiefs (Smith, Foles, Henne, Daniel, Wentz), Bucs (Brady, Gabbert, Mayfield), Rams (Stafford, Mayfield Wentz, Garoppolo), Eagles (Foles, Wentz), Broncos (Manning), and 49ers (Garoppolo, Mullens, Beathard, Johnson, Darnold) all did it over the past decade. Mahomes, Hurts, and Purdy were all plugged into teams that were built to be competitive off of the older vet QBs that made them competitive. I keep suggesting the championship solution (Good for Walsh, Holmgren, Billick, Belichick, Gruden, Dungy, Reid, Arians, the McVays, Pederson, the Kubiaks, and the Shanahans), but everyone wants the unicorn decade long multi coach project QB while wasting away the opportunities at getting top young defensive players. Whatever combo you want to become competitive and have the luxury of trading up for a 1st round QB. They're always available in the modern NFL and swapped between winning teams.

You're all still falling for the media myth of the young 1st round QB? Jordan Palmer and his football camp cohorts like Mark Sanchez and Trent Dilfer push this myth to make money. Young QBs DO NOT win championships. The 24 to 26 year olds that do this are dropped into ready made contenders that have built up a defense, have SB coaches, and have farmed up skill offensive players. A mature QB ready to lead and build a team from the ground to be a contender is 28 to 30 years old. A vast majority of championship level QBs won't contend for a SB until they are in their early 30s. This hasn't changed because the NFL decided to draft 5 1st round QBs year after year. All this brings us is more 1st round busts and QBs like Andy Dalton and Joe Flacco who step in to steady a team that wasted its draft capital.

Any Steelers or Jets connection has Tepper written all over it. Appears to me this is a slow process beginning with Canales and Morgan trying to improve Tepper's decisions. Next has been Canales and Morgan convincing Tepper that certain players aren't good for winning (Bryce, Diontae, and Thomas). Finally, Canales has to prove he can replace them and improve the offense. He's already done that by elevating Dalton, XL, Coker, Moore and J.Sanders over Bryce, Diontae, TMJ, Mingo, Thomas and Tremble before the trade deadline. I won't be shocked if Brooks moves over Hubbard and pushes M.Sanders out after a few weeks of play with the quick progress Canales has shown. Canales definitely has an ability to replace failing players with young developed players. A Canales/Morgan offense free of Tepper will be a future QB, Brooks, XL, Thielen, Coker, Moore, J.Sanders and depth added in 2025. Getting Tepper to give up his fantasy Steelers defensive project will be the more diffcult task for Morgan and Canales. Giving up 20+ points by half every game is unacceptable for even a bad defense.

Writing on the wall tells me this has been about Canales and Morgan having to convince Tepper his players are not good for the team. Canales can manage players like Dalton, Thielen, and Chuba, but they aren't going to make for a winning foundation. They've had to prove early in the offseason/season that Tepper's favorites like Bryce, Miles, Johnson, Ekwonu, Mingo, TMJ, Thomas and Tremble are not the answer. Canales wasn't afforded the opportunity to chose his QB for his system. Why would Tepper want competition for Bryce? Canales is showing he can produce quickly with his players in XL, Coker, and J.Sanders. I hope Brooks shows the same level of quick development under Canales. I'm sure Morgan is wrestling with Tepper to replace the defensive side of Tepper's failures. We're witnessing an internal struggle of the owner needing to be proven wrong by Canales and Morgan before giving them their QB, RB, OL, and defense. A long process, but Tepper's been conceding to Canales and Morgan. Did you notice Ian Thomas has been sent to the bottom of the depth chart? Progress. When we see a new starting offense of a Canales QB, Jonathan Brooks, XL, Thielen, Coker, Moore, and Sanders then we can begin to evaluate Canales. Also, need to fix the OL pass blocking issue for a Canales offense to consistently work.

I have no doubt DJ was another Tepper player favorite Canales had to prove was bad for the team.

I'd say it was more a message to Tepper and his meddling with coaches. I get the feeling Payton didn't agree during their January 2023 meeting with the direction Tepper wanted to take the offense and their personnel before they blew up the entire franchise for Bryce. Canales has had zero power. He is working with Tepper's pieces. Ian Thomas is a prime example. No way does Thomas remain through 3 coaches and 3 GMs. Ownership has to be the main factor and Payton wants Tepper to know publicly that he failed this franchise, the fans, the players and the coaches.

Bryce, Evero, Ekwonu, Horn are all next up before Canales. If Canalea goes, then Dan Morgan goes with him. Need to stop piecing a team together and hope a championship culture appears. Let Canales choose his QBs to run his system and let Morgan reset the entire defense with both Canales and Morgan choosing their DC. They get 2 years to show progress from that point.

Bryce stans are pleading for more misery? Do you not see week to week what rookie and 2nd year QBs are expected to do? Josh Rosen would be an upgrade over Young. There are QBs sitting on other teams benches that are better than Bryce. Give it up. He's done. How many starts do you afford a QB with ZERO consistent production before moving on? Josh Allen and Pat Mahomes just hit start 100. Young is at 20. Are you going another 20? Montana only needed 6 starts. Brady needed 10 starts. Jayden Daniels needed 7 starts. CJ Stroud needed 9 starts. Do you see how these QBs make it known they can lead and turn around a bad team in year 1? There's many more like this, and remember there are only 64 QBs to make a championship game in the past 35 seasons. How many starts did it take Delhomme and Cam? Cam was on his way to RoY and PB by week 10 on a Jimmy Clausen rebuild. Clausen was done after 10 starts. Is Bryce that much better than 2nd round pick Clausen?

If that's the pocket to step up in, doesn't that mean the LT is suppose to push the defender to the outside and not shuffle into the pocket? Are you excusing the LT from letting a defender cross his face easily into the pocket?
