The difference is he is not being forced off his spot in the pocket by the pass rush and can get to 5 and 7 step drops with receivers developing their routes and not being lazy.

Darnold is a Dilfer. He is a game managing QB who works best at taking selective shots. He has mobility too. He will not be consistently winning games in the 4th quarter.

Warner is wrong about evaluating them. Warner is right about the way the NFL and traditional scouting evaluates them is wrong. The NFL for the most part has the physics of the QB all wrong and does not view the role of the QB correctly. The other thing the NFL has gotten wrong for decades is how to evaluate a head coach. It just so happens that the head coach the NFL thought could never be a head coach because he was too cerebral and not macho enough ended up unlocking an entire coaching tree that has come close to breaking the QB code. Anyone who studies football knows I am talking about Bill Walsh. Bill Walsh could evaluate and visualize the fit of a QB in a few hours without looking at any of his physical measurables on paper like arm strength and speed. He did not even need to see them play a game in the NFL to know. This coaching tree starting with Bill Walsh found and/or produced Ken Anderson, Dan Fouts, Joe Montana, Steve Young (Walsh/Holmgren), Brett Favre, Mark Brunell, Kurt Warner, Matt Hasselbeck (Holmgren/Reid), Donovan McNabb, Nick Foles, Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes. That is 1 of every 5 conference championship QBs spots since 1980. Finding a third of the QBs in modern SB NFL history that have gone to the playoffs 5 or more times. 9 SB champion QBs of 34 in modern NFL history [of 25 since the 80s]. 2 of every 3 QBs who get an opportunity in the NFL succeed in becoming a franchise leading QB. 3 of every 5 QBs that get an opportunity in the NFL make it to the playoffs. 1 of every 10 QBs that get an opportunity in the NFL win the SB. This line of coaches sees 1 of 3 of their QBs winning the SB. It is not as random as you may think in selecting a QB, and the 1st round QB is a guaranteed loss of draft capital. Andy Reid likes going with a 1st round QB compared to Walsh or Holmgren, but he has only hit on Mahomes as a SB winner 1/3. Holmgren had spotted Favre, Brunell, Detmer, Warner, and Hasselbeck 2/5. Walsh had Anderson, Fouts, Montana, and Young 2/4. All of them found 1 SB losing QB too.

Hopefully, the Panthers get lucky and never face the 49ers or a good run stopping AFC defense. That would complete a miracle season lol. -

The game plan Wilks is using and the strengths of the run blocking OL with the speed pass rushing defense play to the Panthers favor in the NFC. Only 1 team will be in the Panthers way... the 49ers. That is only due to the CMC trade. If the CMC trade never happened, the Panthers have everything lining up in their favor. They will likely get destroyed against a few AFC teams in the SB though. But nothing to lose for the Panthers. -

They are just playing to keep the Lions in bounds and in front of the defense. Doing everything on defense and offense to run down the clock. With a 3 score lead and 4 minutes on clock this is what any team should do. Use up clock. Doing this with a 2 score lead with 10 minutes in the games is what is bad coaching. -

If you have yet to notice what has happened with the Panthers, Wilks made quick adjustments and just recycled the Panthers game plan from 2015 to 2017. This is the Cam Newton SB offense with the McDermott/Wilks attacking defense. Run the score up in the 2nd and attack with the defense early. Protect the lead with your defense. Take note of all the A gap pressure by the LBs now. -

This is the only hope for the Panthers. Scripted plays in 1st quarter. Attack on offense in the 2nd quarter and run up the score. Protect the score and take your easy shots in the 3rd quarter. Run the clock down with the running game in the 4th. The run blocking OL and speed pass rushing defense is all the Panthers have. This is the only way they win. They have to hope they do not face a rare run stopping defense. The only teams in the way of the Panthers from here on out are the 49ers and a strong run stopping defense in the SB. The only real obstacle at this point for the Panthers getting to the SB is the trade of CMC to the 49ers. Thanks front office for your great vision of the NFL landscape. Should have took my miracle season plan I proposed in the offseason. This front office is playing checkers and not chess. Wilks is doing what he can to save the season and he knows how to use the teams strengths and cover up their weaknesses. -

Disagree. The state of the run defense is at a serious low now as they have been built to defend the passing teams. There is only 2 good run defenses in the NFC. 49ers and Rams. The rest of the few are in the AFC and the Panthers faced one of them last week. -

So the passing game plan for the Panthers is to role out right or throw the ball quickly before Ekwonu bends his waist and lets a runner level the QB -

BC is a better run blocker and pass blocker than Moton. BC is a good run blocker and a much better pass blocker than Ekwonu. Moton was the best OL on last years OL with BC being held back and a line led by Elf or Paradis. Now it is Bozeman, BC, Moton, Corbett, and Ekwonu in that order. Ekwonu's pass blocking is just so bad he can't be elevated above the others based solely on his run blocking. OL would be even better if you had BC at LT, Ekwonu at LG, and Bozeman at C with Corbett pulling to the left side. The left side of the OL would be so dominant in the running game if they made that switch, and there would be better pass protection for 5 and 7 step drops with BC at LT. Not to mention you would no longer have to help Ekwonu and have an extra pass option going down the field. That's how I see it. Ekwonu is good at LT, but his pass blocking problems are obvious. He would be the BEST OG in the NFL without question. -

Bozeman and BC BC needs to get more respect. He is the 2nd best OL on the line after Bozeman. -

Watch who is in Ben Johnson's ear during the game, pumping up that offense, and coaching up Goff between plays. It is not Ben Johnson. Ben Johnson is leaning on an offensive assistant coach. -

Brown stood up, pushed back, and put on his back for the Lions 1st down. Never going to win against the run game on championship plays with Brown at DT. -

Zylstra and Arnold would have made a nice pass catching TE duo lol Wish we had a chance at having TEs like that for Darnold. Oh wait!
