  1. Ehh, that article is reaching on quite a few there...three different ones: Marquis Haynes has improved each season and is primed to take a bigger role if we don't scoop someone up at DE behind Burns YGM, & Obada. He was in on a lot of plays in 2020. Keith Kirkwood is a bit more ready than Bayless at this point and if he can prove he isn't made of glass could be a solid 4th option. Looked good in NO when they needed him. Troy Pride sniffed at full on NFL starter level play but had some rookie hiccups. His nice performances showed some legit outside potential and he's got the size+quickness. Those are three I expect to be given the opportunity and could do well in 21.
  2. My biggest thing is that our deficiency at LB is a quiet but impactful one. We didn't really have anyone who could detect how the team's were running audibles or correctly read the offense presnap--it was a HUGE reason for why we could barely force a punt the first half of the year. Step one in causing 3 and outs is always preferred to be a dominant defensive line, but the leader at that next level is critical to get the secondary & lbs on the same page. Wrapping plays up and not letting guys slip past. Shaq just isn't capable of that level of leading. It improved once we got Carter in there and changed things up a bit. It's easy to look at it like a plug in play, like the RB of the defense these days, but I think that's more at the FS spot. LB isn't a 1st round need, but it's a big need and could greatly improve our ability to stop drives. Maybe we find a Bobby Wagner type in the 3rd. Never know. That Pete Werner does look pretty dope along with the FA Smith out of Tennessee. and edit--I do agree we really only need 2 with Snow's defense, so it makes me wonder where they are with Carter. I just think Shaq isn't a fit.
  3. Brady bogs it down so look at the conference title games: 2021: 3 first rounders & Brady 2020: 3 first rounders, 1 second rounder 2019: 2 first rounders, 1 second rounder, & Brady 2018: 2 first rounders, 1 4th rounder, & Brady 2017: 3 first rounders & Brady 2016: 3 first rounders & Brady 2015: 2 first rounders, 1 third, & Brady I mean, come on
  4. Like one or 2 people mentioned Parsons. It is not the suggestion of the thread--just gauging the talent and best potential route.
  5. From what it seemed, we need 2 guys in Snow's scheme for most downs, not 3 like we're used to. You've got some nice points. A main honcho, sideline-to-sideline guy at one spot. We just don't really have a lead man reading the offense. Then an athletic outside type, covering the seam like you say. But needs to still handle the physicality of roughing it up with linemen. Shaq was kind of in between the types. We've got Chinn as that rover type in those packages. Don't know if it's a 2nd or 3rd rounder (or later) but we need some help. I think Carter could be decent but there's a big issue. I think a big concern last year (as much as the lack of pressure) was not having a smart duder in the center of that D. We don't need to find a Kuechly clone, but it would be nice to find a guy that can create the awareness of an offense changing things up on a 3rd and mid.
  6. We are razor thin to nonexistent at LB right now. Question is how we address it. Whether it was Fit or someone else, but Seattle always had an eye for LBs (not exclusive to Hurney), so I am curious to the moves we make there. It's way more important than people let on. Especially when the DL isn't getting a consistent push.
  7. Hi folks. Got my Friday morning joe, it's a bit brisk today, and figured to throw out a topic before I started the day: We need linebackers! Some points: Shaq is good as gone. I believe we told him he is. He's either being negotiated in a trade or out of here. We will gain $11 mil in cap by cutting him post-June 1st with only incurring a $3.2m dead cap hit for 2021. Jermaine Carter Jr. is the one who actually showed some promise last year, and went from being in Rhule's doghouse to being our preferred MLB. He's the one staying. Chinn can play outside but sounds like he'll migrate primarily to nickle/dime box-sleuth and safety Whitehead is outta here & that's pretty much it, everyone else was 1-yr or UDFA types So we've basically got Shaq+Carter at the most, Carter at the least right now. That's quite a few holes in the smack dab middle of our defense der folkers. 2021 FAs: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/inside-linebacker/ https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/outside-linebacker/ (not all apply to our scheme in link 2) 2021 draft prospects: https://insidethestar.com/brian-martins-2021-nfl-draft-linebacker-rankings/ A few that stand out to me: Jabril Cox LSU 6'3 230 - athletic, productive, NFL ready Baron Browning OSU 6'3 240 - at the WILL, another athletic splashy type. Length, burst, & tackling all check with both dudes. -- I think an upgrade is warranted and it's one of the gaping holes on this team outside of QB. Who stands out to y'all? -Sax
  8. They really need a 3 down guy at KK's spot and a good linebacker. This is one of the first times in our team's history where we are witnessing what happens with bad linebacker play. You don't force 3 and outs and you're not setting the offense up for easy points. Smitty is right in the video (he's his rambling self) but a DT+LB combined with a QB is the shot in the arm we need. The remainder of our resources go to the OL and finding another CB.
  9. Have the Pauline reports been out prior? He always has the inside track on the NFCE and definitely has a solid pipeline of insiders.
  10. Miami could actually be a good bet for him. If Tua is factored in, maybe they don't go QB, some freedom offensively. Devante Parker, a great young TE, solid OL foundation.
  11. Russell still managed 4200 yards, 40 TDs, 13 INTs, 68% comp, with apparently all this drama, an awful OL, and a super inconsistent run game. Best overall #s of his career. They were talking about him as MVP up until week 8ish. He's got plenty of years in the tank.
  12. Yup. This year in particular. Last year was so trade light early only because teams weren't adjusted to the format and wanted to just stick to the plan with the wild pandemic draft deal. They will be more adjusted to the remote aspects this year and factoring in all the things not happening, could be SUPER interesting. Their in-season scouting & internal powows become pretty critical.
  13. Awesome work. Lance is super intriguing. Also really loved Fields at times but the inconsistency thing is true. If we don't get Deshaun, we almost HAVE to trade up for a QB. Picks 2-4 are complete wildcards (NYJ, MIA, ATL (maybe Houston ends up 2 or 3). Then, I totally see 5, 6, & 7 all being tradable for a team wanting a QB (because they want to leapfrog us knowing we want one). We have to be aggressive for it. Methinks we're somewhat downplaying interest in Lance bc we really like him. I'd love to trade up to #5 or 6 for him just to ensure the pick and show him he's the guy we want, not just some QB that fell to us and we're taking the next best. I like his potential over the lot not named Lawrence. I don't see MIA picking a QB. They're either trading for Watson or rolling with Tua year 2. Atlanta? I can see them grabbing Fields for some reason with the security of giving Ryan one last hoorah. So then that CIN pick becomes a spot to trade into.
  14. I think mocks are kind meh for us this year because it is highly unlikely we stay at #8.
  15. He's either part of a package as a negative asset or a post-June 1 cut. He's not here next year. Ain't gon fly down that spickethole
  16. The next domino to fall may end up being the the Cowboys decision with Dak. If it's a non-exclusive tag, then he could be had for 2 1sts. If they wanted him long term, something would have been worked out by now. Someone may jump on that before Deshaun. Big Ben is staying put somehow (Don't know how PIT will figure their cap out) but the next 2 weeks could be quiet.
  17. I like the logo ideas that use the monument. Nothing beats an obelisk. That W one below is pretty dope.
  18. The "Washington Football Team" name has grown on me. Simple, effective, they should be creative w/ the logo and mascot.
  19. I like that Hudson kid. Think we may be better served to draft offense in R2 but it all depends on who's available.
  20. If there's no Watson, we better root he goes to the Dolphins and HOU gets Tua. Then we can trade up w/ the Jets at #2 if we want Zach Wilson. Worst case would be Deshaun is a Jet, HOU picks a QB high and maybe we don't want Fields/a trade to #3. In this worst case, I'd prefer the run at Dak once he gets the non-exclusive tag designation from Dallas. That cost is (2) first round picks. Next after that is Trey Lance at pick #5-8 (trade up or not) Next after that would be Sam Darnold for a 3rd Next after that would be Drew Lock (he can be had) Next after that is CJ Beathard Next after that is long shot, wait for it, wait for it.... NATE SUDFELD b*tches.
  21. Because he was the top FA QB that wanted to come here. And that’s what Tepper wants (the best available). And unfortunately he is what we got.
