That reminds me, I was pleasantly surprised they didn't throw a flag on that Derrick Brown sack for "putting his weight on the QB" or whatever. Not that I think it was warranted, but that awful addition to the roughing the passer penalty has been used ridiculously these past couple seasons, including at least once or twice against us. Especially since Wilson looked visibly hurt after that. Maybe he's not old enough to get that call yet lol.

Technically he wasn't missed in our search, we actually signed him back in March but released him in May lol. But either way, he didn't even attempt a FG or XP so it's too soon to say whether we missed out on anything. His punts were pretty respectable for a placekicker but we have one of the best punters in the league. TBD whether he can actually kick balls through the uprights.

I’m still super excited about him and haven’t soured on him one bit, but I think Week 1 around the NFL should bring those people back down to Earth a bit who were thinking he’d be in the running for OROY. There were a lot of strong performances from rookie WRs around the league: Chase, Smith, and Waddle particularly. I think he definitely has the talent to be OROY but just won’t get the opportunities…for better or worse, CMC looks like he’ll continue to dominate the touches in this offense and then he’ll still have to contend with super talented receivers like DJ and Robby.

The guy is VERY raw. I know we all like to watch highlights of him knocking defenders on their ass, but he does a lot of lunging with his upper body. Technique needs a lot of refining before I’m comfortable with him starting.

Cowboys at Bucs - NFL opener GameDay thread

We’re already conceding the division to TB before the first game of the season? This is like the people who start looking towards the draft in Week 3 lol. -
Can this guy really be "THE GUY" for the Aints

No need to get defensive. If you want to engage with the arguments then that's fine, but I'm not interested in these juvenile "You mad, bro?" games. -

Who are you arguing with on yards and TDs? Lol who has said Darnold compares favorably to Jameis in those categories? Turnovers: Darnold > Jameis Yards/TDs: Jameis >>>>>>>>> Darnold Is that clear enough? Can we agree on these basic facts? -

Once you apply some context, it seems a lot more favorable when you have one QB with by far his highest INT% his rookie year (3.6%) and then tapering off the last two years (2.9%, 3.0%), versus a QB who has played 5 full seasons and has trended UPWARDS significantly in INT% his last three seasons: 2.5 -> 3.7 -> 4.8. Trends are important and a veteran QB trending in the wrong direction is alarming. I'm not arguing that Darnold is better than Jameis, I can easily acknowledge that career-wise Darnold has been pretty piss-poor. I'm simply saying it's fine to acknowledge that he's less turnover prone than Winston...that's a slam dunk and not even in any way a glowing endorsement of Darnold lol. -

You responded to someone talking specifically about interceptions and how Darnold has a reputation for being "turnover prone". So when talking specifically about interceptions, we can easily extrapolate how many Darnold would have thrown if he had Winston's pass attempts. You sneaking in Winston's yardage has no relevancy to that specific discussion which is why I ignored it...those are two separate discussions. It doesn't seem like a difficult concession to say that Darnold is less turnover prone than Jameis, but for some reason it's becoming obvious that you have some aversion to even hinting at anything remotely positive about Darnold, no matter how trivial. If you can't even simply acknowledge that Darnold is less turnover prone than the MOST turnover prone active QB in the NFL, then it's really hard to take you seriously when it comes to any rational discussions about Darnold. -

It's a pretty simple extrapolation: Darnold's INTs over 626 pass attempts would have come to just under 19. There's no need for wild speculation when we have fundamental mathematics at our disposal. -
Belichick’s view on joint practices vs. preseason games

I would be REALLY cautious hosting joint practices with Belichick and the Patriots…- 15 replies

Jones was probably the most consistently solid...but the other QBs all had more "wow" plays (except maybe Lance IMO). Which pretty much falls in line with what we expected...highest floor, lowest ceiling of the bunch.

Well, if there's reason to believe this guy would be a lateral move from Santoso then at least we could technically recoup the 7th round pick since that was a conditional trade. Normally I would think who cares about a 7th round pick, but Fitterer seems to be on the opposite ends of a lot of 7th round transactions.

Panthers cut Will Grier - PJ Wins backup QB spot
MasterAwesome replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
You seem to be all in on this PR angle...you know what the best PR is for Rhule and the Panthers? Winning. Your suggestion that Rhule is being deliberately negligent and is motivated by external reasons beyond simply putting together the best team possible is pretty borderline tinfoil hat speculation IMO. I'll grant that it's within the realm of possibility that Rhule is reluctant to bring in competition for Darnold, but I believe that if that's the case (however unlikely it is), it's a much more logical deduction that he is doing that because he believes that will help Darnold (and the team) perform better...not because he's worried about media/fan chatter. There are players who are fueled by competition and will elevate their game with a back-up breathing down their necks, and there are other players who perform better with a sense of job security and trust and take a hit to their performance when they're too much in their head about getting benched or cut (see: Joey Slye in the last preseason game). Maybe Darnold is in that latter category...personally I couldn't care less as long as he performs well. That part is obviously TBD and what our season hinges on. -
Ha yeah sorry, I was just trying to be “witty” or something. I was aware of Monteiro cause he got a lot of playing time in the first preseason game and IIRC, he graded out really well in run blocking that game. Pass blocking, clearly not so much…

Jags Trade Gardner Minshew to Philly
MasterAwesome replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean…okay I guess? I genuinely don’t know how to argue against “Because Jaguars” lol. The argument that because they’ve made stupid decisions before (as every single organization has), that means they must necessarily have done everything in the sloppiest most incompetent way possible is a slam dunk I guess. The T-e-b-o-w thing could have been more a publicity stunt than a “stupid football decision” and had virtually zero impact on their football operations anyways…he didn’t even make it past first cuts. Splitting first team reps between Minshew and Lawrence for all we know was them trying to butter Minshew up for a potential trade in the horizon…which, again, seems like teams didn’t bite. Do I think it was stupid of them to trade Minshew for a 6th rather than keep him? Yeah probably, but that has nothing to do with how other teams valued him. That just means he’s probably more valuable to the Jags than the 6th round pick they got for him. -
Jags Trade Gardner Minshew to Philly
MasterAwesome replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would’ve personally been pretty excited if we had traded a 6th for Minshew, since he’s clearly an upgrade over Grier/PJ. But that’s sorta my point…how many times have we heard on here the sentiment of: “I either want a QB good enough to get us to the playoffs or bad enough to secure us a top 5 pick”. Minshew is exactly the type of QB in the middle to give us 6-9 wins (nice) and leave us in QB purgatory when it comes time for the draft. Which I’m personally fine with, as I’m not one of those Huddlers who is perpetually looking towards the draft 5 games into the season. For your other points: everyone and their grandmas knew the Jags were open to trading Minshew with the drafting of Lawrence. I would have to suspend all rational thought to accept that they could’ve gotten more than a 6th for him but chose to take the first offer and ship him to Philly. If they ultimately traded him for a 6th, then I’m pretty confident that’s what the league values him as…blaming the Jags for being stupid is irrelevant unless you’re suggesting they got better offers but took the worst one. That’s why I’m saying you guys are overvaluing Minshew relative to the league. You hype up his stats and call him a good QB…but good, young QBs who have put up good numbers early into their careers don’t fetch 6th round picks. If NFL GMs thought as highly of him as us armchair GMs do, then the Jags’ phone would be ringing off the hook with offers a hell of a lot better than a 6th round pick. -
Targeted spell checker? So you flubbing basic addition was more of a typo, got it. I couldn’t have cared less about your embarrassing gaffe if you didn’t come in shortly after with the condescending “3rd grade math” insult. Just hilarious irony in the same vein as someone making a “Your so dumb” insult. So far you like to complain about me not contributing to this discussion meanwhile you’ve done nothing but flounder and deflect about Greg Little this and rah rah team that. Clearly whatever previous arguments we’ve had are still raging on in your head so you’ll have to refresh my memory on those…cause I only remember you as the guy with a massive boner for Gettleman. How’s that going btw? I imagine it must have gone pretty soft these past few years. I dunno what it is about the combination of 50 years old + the Carolina Huddle that creates such delicate, fragile little egos here. But damn, you might have the rest of them beat.

Jags Trade Gardner Minshew to Philly
MasterAwesome replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
People in here always complain about mediocrity and now are bummed we didn’t trade for Gardner Minshew? Really? Is there any chance you’re overvaluing a QB who was traded for a 6th rounder at the most important, coveted position in the NFL? I thought it was “boom or bust” Darnold who will either get us in the playoffs or bomb badly enough to secure us a top 5 pick. Now all of a sudden we’re upset about losing out on the potential for a QB who could get us to an 8-9 record. -
Good feels, but we see the elephant in the room

Is our o-line really the “elephant in the room” when we’ve been complaining about it openly for the past 10+ years?
