Panthers about to trade for CJ Henderson?!?!
MasterAwesome replied to joemac's topic in Carolina Panthers
For once, we're trading for a JAG and I'm excited about it. -
Meh…even if he was kinda complimentary of Sam in a roundabout way, he still constantly felt the need to qualify it with “I’m not saying he’s great” and “he’s no Andrew Luck” (seriously? We’re still making Andrew Luck comparisons?). Definitely came across as more anti-Baker than pro-Sam. And the “only bottom-10 pass blocking o-line with a winning record” would be a pretty damn compelling stat if it wasn’t Week 3.

Offensive Tackle Abuse By Haason Reddick
MasterAwesome replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
Laremy Tunsil is supposedly a dang good LT too. Reddick made him look straight up silly on a couple of those. -
Shaq Thompson is playing as good as Thomas Davis in his prime.
MasterAwesome replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
85.9 PFF rating for whoever cares I am pretty sure I also heard either last night or in Week 2 that he was the highest rated LB in coverage this season. That's a relief since it would always seem in previous seasons that we gave up way too many easy passes to the TE and RB. -
Shaq Thompson is playing as good as Thomas Davis in his prime.
MasterAwesome replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I remember one of the commentators last night calling him "one of the best LBs in the league" or maybe even "THE best LB in the league"...can't remember their wording but I remember being kinda caught off guard that he's got that kind of reputation. -
Sam Darnold "optimistic that CMC will be back this season."

This isn't really Dr. Peon's field of medicine and I have a feeling he's not going to flex his med school rotation in orthopedics to present himself as a subject matter expert since he's a responsible medical professional, but I'll let him speak for himself. -
How well has Jaycee Horn played thusfar?
MasterAwesome replied to Kryptick's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's hard to truly gauge how he was doing because QBs just weren't throwing at him, so we rarely saw him on screen. Obviously that's usually a positive sign of your coverage if your receiver isn't being targeted very much, but it's still just a form of inductive reasoning, i.e. "Horn isn't being thrown at, therefore he must be playing at an elite level/blanketing his receiver". But receiver/CB matchups are hard to really evaluate at home on our couches because these often take place out of frame, unless the receiver is being targeted (which wasn't happening in Horn's case). -
Robby worse contract than Batum?
MasterAwesome replied to slumdogmillionaire's topic in Carolina Panthers
I can only assume you have access to the full game film somehow if you're making these claims about Robby getting beat by average corners on nearly every play, considering the camera on gameday only keys in on the QB and then follows the pass to its intended receiver. -
Robby worse contract than Batum?
MasterAwesome replied to slumdogmillionaire's topic in Carolina Panthers
Until I see evidence of him continuously getting blanketed in coverage or dropping catches (I know he had one uncharacteristic drop last night), I'm gonna assume he's just getting underutilized either by design or because Darnold isn't looking his way as much. Neither is an indictment of Robby. -
I don't recall seeing any "Wow" throws that you'll get from a Zach Wilson or a GOAT like Sam Darnold, but his poise and toughness was commendable. But he seemed to mostly just throw to open receivers last night. He did do a good job operating the 2-minute drill at the end of the first half...much better than I had seen Teddy do at any point last season.

Very conflicting feelings...

I love my boys... I love this team... MASSIVE AUTOGRAPH HAUL
MasterAwesome replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
This dude is the world’s most dedicated bandwagoner. -
I haven’t seen a player step up in the second half of a game like Chubba Howard since probably either Donald Lafell or Chris Martinez.
-
Darnold is still a better blocker than Daley.

Predictions - Panthers at Texans - let's go
MasterAwesome replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I predict Charles Omenihu gets a sack and then stbugs will make somewhere between 4-6 threads about it (just teasing buddy). -
The WR (Berrios) has the build of a small child by NFL standards but then again, Royce Freeman got destroyed by Roby who is of a similar build, so that really is pretty impressive.

NFL.com's coverage of the Panthers is pretty up-and-down. There was the complimentary article in the OP and another article by Gil Brandt calling us his "hottest" 2-0 team right now. But then there's the general Power Rankings that has us at 18 behind a slew of 1-1 teams (including Green Bay at 6th, really?) and this gem of a QB index that has Darnold at 25th, right below....Mac Jones? With a washed up Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger at 18 & 19? But then again, if they're referring to our protection as "pristine" and think CMC and Moore are constantly getting "wide open" (nevermind the tiny windows Darnold threw into for both of them on Sunday), then I can see why they're cautious to elevate Darnold on their QB index. Yeah I know I know who cares about arbitrary rankings, but it's still funny to me that when it comes to the Panthers, it seems like they have to balance out any praise with a dash of cynicism.

Go ahead, admit it. Huddle confessionals.
MasterAwesome replied to Ivan The Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah I agree there are overreactions on both sides. I guess depending on one's temperament and overall attitude towards the team, people are rather selective on which side they call out though. If you're more on the doomer side, you tend to ignore all the hyperbolic statements about how the FO is ruining our franchise and we're gonna be bottom dwellers for years and we're throwing our future away on yet another mediocre patchwork QB and all we've done is beat up on two "bad" teams (shoutout CRA) etc. etc. and you're quick to jump down peoples' throats who talk about how dominant of a team we are, how Darnold's career is saved and he's a legit starting QB, how our defense is one of the best in the league, etc. etc. Personally, I tend to err on the side of positivity (cause why follow a team that makes you miserable) so I'm not gonna waste my time trashing someone who thinks that Kyle Allen is a Top 3 QB or that the Panthers are winning the next 30 consecutive Super Bowls cause I couldn't care less....it doesn't trigger me to see people excited about the team like it does some people. But to clarify my point in my last post: to the people who are conveniently adopting the position of "hey let's wait and see beyond two games how things play out before crowning us as a dominant team"....where the hell was this energy in the offseason? If anyone has followed my posts in any capacity, 99% of my criticism to the doomers in here is to stop overreacting to everything (FA signings, draft picks, training camp performances, etc.) and let's just wait and see how things play out. Woah...crazy thought right? Simply saying "quit overreacting and let's wait and see" during the offseason gets you painted as a homer for Huddle standards lol. But it's become pretty transparent that the "let's wait and see" approach is a convenient, selective tool for certain people only to be brandished when something is threatening their preconceived beliefs about this team. -
That's good sports rankings. Guess who's #1?
MasterAwesome replied to Ivan The Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah this guy earned a subscription on YouTube from me. And only like 30% cause of his respect for the Panthers...he's also pretty entertaining. -

Isn't it interesting how all the proud "realists" on the Huddle were very eager and confident in shouting their evaluations from the rooftops in thread after thread after thread in the offseason about how: we're still bottom-dwellers for at least another season any predictions about a top-10 defense is coming from delusional homers Darnold is one of the worst starting quarterbacks our o-line is worst in the league Shaq is an overpaid JAG Fields was the better pick over Horn etc. etc All of this before a single game was played by this team in its current state. Now after two games these are the same people saying across multiple threads "woah woah it's only been two games, way too early for any judgments". Like come on you lil doomers, enjoy the excitement while it lasts...it's okay to entertain some positive discussion. Like yeah no sh#% it's too early to make any definitive conclusions about this team, but quit being boring as hell. You can talk about what has surprised you so far.
