from Darin's mailbag re: the 2002 top 3 picks in the draft
Wundrbread33 replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
As just shown, you can find examples of everything. There is an example of both viewpoints in 2015. We had a franchise QB that got us to a Super Bowl. Denver had poo QB play and they got to the Super Bowl. Everyone here wants to win. There are just different paths and opinions on how to get there. Calling other opinions as “loser mentality” is lame. I see people calling tankers as “losers” too. Wish we could stop doing it. We simply all want to win. That’s seems evident across the board, at least long term. -
Some want to see Sam, not because he is good, but because Baker and PJ have been bad. Since variables have changed from last year (HC, OC, o-line), they probably want to see if Sam is just as bad as last year, or an improvement over Baker and PJ with the same variables. I wouldn’t mind it for the above reason. At this point, the QB’s on this team are auditioning for, AT BEST, a future backup role, or situational starting role while the next QB is developing.

That is such a parody of what I said. I want a QB as much as anybody. Duh. Who doesn’t? But damn…there are 32 teams and 1 wins it all. And we can’t control any of this poo. We’ve had teams that were great to watch with players who were fun. They mean nothing because they don’t have a ring? 2015 for example, was a better season than most franchises will ever have, Super Bowl or not. Hell of a ride. Also that year, we got beat by a stellar defense and a below average QB in Peyton at that age. There are many ways to win. I’d love the next Mahomes, but you banking on that? Good luck. -

The “we didn’t win a championship with Peppers” line of thinking is miserable. If can’t find joy or meaning in watching your team outside of “Super Bowl” the odds are not in your favor of enjoying the game. We lost to the Patriots in that Super Bowl, but it was one of the best Super Bowls ever, and it came down to one play. And we did it as a whole team, without a Peyton Manning type QB.- 74 replies

Defintely not a team looking to lose....
Wundrbread33 replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
Horn really is one of the most gifted corners I’ve seen. Effortlessly athletic, while also instinctual. -
Teddy cemented my hatred for focusing on completion percentage without context though. We saw Cam throw in the 50% range (in his prime) but he was taking a ton of shots downfield and being aggressive. Simply incorporating a focus on the short game (under Norv Turner), had him in the high 60’s%. I’d have to watch more of Fields to see what that 59% means.

The draft board are now pretty much locked.
Wundrbread33 replied to Snake's topic in Carolina Panthers
Football is too weird to think draft order is set right now. I agree with @Waldo regarding draft order and worrying about it. We are just too far away regarding where we will pick, what players will rise and fall, etc. But that’s me personally. Obviously anyone can do what they want. But I’ve exhausted myself going back and forth about the QB prospects and even Corral. I think it will be fun casually watching tape on various prospects during the season, but outside that, it’s exhausting personally. -
How bad does PJ need to play to be removed as starter?
Wundrbread33 replied to AlphabetsEnd's topic in Carolina Panthers
Same here. The only QB I would want to see, and anyone would benefit from, is our rookie on IR. I’m just ready for a brand new QB room. New placeholder vet, rookie, and Corral, or some variation of that. -
Miles arrested on felony domestic violence

Hoping Miles redeems himself does not equal being okay that he beat up this woman. There is indeed an opinion between hoping he burns in hell, and only caring about him dunking a basketball. -

And yet he’s still done more than Rhule -

PJ has been figured out. Atlanta was jumping his throws but just didn’t finish the plays. I’m confused too and agree that if you want to tank, let him throw away games. If you want to win, run a heavy ground attack with another QB would would make marginally better decisions with the ball than what we are seeing with PJ. It just doesn’t make sense. Slightly more production from the passing game, and we win last nights game by 2-3 TD’s -
He was throwing Lindstrom all night. It so enjoyable watching a dominant DT.

Official hey the Panthers are wearing black helmets GameDay Thread!

This team overall isn’t bad enough to lose every game, so if we are going to win, let’s fug the Falcons a bit. -

All they had to do to not lie was post Derrick Brown. Easy to do. -
He certainly had all the tools you want, and unlike Levis, his youth leaves more room for development. He should have a monster combine too. When we suck, it at least makes April more interesting.

If that’s his 40, then it’s seems like a “Jerry Rice” type 40, because he seems to play with good mobility and game speed. But yeah if he runs that AND is small…oof he will drop. On a side note, I’ve dove into Richardson more since you brought him up a lot. Him at the end of the 1st (with that 5th year) might be a hell of a move with the right staff. He can throw some dimes, so he has it in him. He would be exciting.

Yeah Fitt is the big one. If he goes there isn’t a commitment to any player on the roster. Changed my view on many players; not just Corral. I think Corral has talent, but if Fitt goes, Corral probably gets traded unless we literally hire a Lane Kiffin or something.
-
Yeah…that would be a tough sell. Wonder how far he would slip in the draft if he measured out like that.
-
If we took Young though, we would have two rookie QB’s (Corral) who’s primary concern is frame durability. It does feel good that we are committed to using resources on the o-line though. That eases my mind towards smaller or thinner QB’s.
-
My current opinion is I’m fine with Young in the 1st, or one of the top 3 DL and trading back into the 1st for boom/bust Richardson/Levis. Lamar Jackson end of the 1st range. If Young was Stroud’s size, I think he would get the “generational talent” label attached to him.
