New Coach Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
Wundrbread33 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
You guys realize we both went for it on 4th down more than our opponents this season, and we also converted more 4th downs, at a higher rate, than our opponents this season too. -
My first reaction to the last pic was to laugh so I guess not the last one.

If we were a perennial playoff team, this move would be pure class. Since we haven’t been, Tepper “had to be told to do this”, or he is only doing it for optics/as “an excuse for Nicole to do her training.” That’s basically what it comes down to. No one here knows the man, and people just love to find creative ways to poo on him.

People seem to be sleeping on Mike Kafka as a candidate

Also he lost his hair early. That builds character. Resilience. Grit. I’m down. -

I’d prefer taking a swing on Kafka over giving up assets to a division rival for Drew Payton.- 85 replies

Go on record now before the hire is made Re: Sean Payton
Wundrbread33 replied to GOAT's topic in Carolina Panthers
My copium (I feel 80%+ certain Payton will be HC) is hoping that he is a “hate him when he’s against you, love him when he’s with you” type of guy. Maybe it would be nice watching others cry over his butthole mouth for awhile. -
Well the honest answer to the Super Bowl question is we don’t know. Even our last two conservative coaches got us there. It’s a weird league. Wilks immediately made this current team better. But coming from Rhule, you’d expect that . Regarding “conservative”, how do you define that? Some people think focusing on running the ball is conservative. I think conservative is “John Fox, put the ball on the opponents 35” type stuff. Wilks is definitely conservative by the first definition, but it’s the best way to win if you don’t have an elite/very good QB. Wilks however isn’t conservative in the second way. He took calculated risk. And regarding sitting on leads, I agree wholeheartedly with you. I hate milking the clock and playing soft coverage. I like Wilks to be clear, and I appreciate what he did. Wouldn’t hate it if he came back. I have come around to wanting an offensive HC though, with a veteran DC who just loves coaching defense. I get that OC’s are the hot thing now, so having one at HC is the safer thing so you have consistent offense. But Wilks is okay in my book. He helped wash that Rhule stank off this franchise. Sorry for the essay response.

I don’t understand. Is taking over a 1-4 dumpster fire irrelevant to you? Not picking his coaching staff? Wilks isn’t my prefered choice, but let’s not ignore context and pretend his situation was the same as the other HC’s in the division.
-
Read more than one of the sentences I wrote to see how Wilks was in a slightly different position.
-
I know people are shitting on your take, but Wilks did a good job, and he showed he is better than what he’s given credit for in this sub. Not his staff, not his roster. And he has this team in playoff talks until week 17. He’s not a sexy new toy offensive wunderkind, so he gets poo on more than he should be.

For those who ARE interested in Sean Payton...
Wundrbread33 replied to t96's topic in Carolina Panthers
I respect and give too much credit to Brees for the Saints success to give up anything for a Brees-less Peyton. Too much of a risk. No thanks. -
But can Corral/rookie be his next Brees? There’s a little bit of Bill/Brady thing going on. Peyton didn’t stick around for a rebuild/finding a new QB. Seems like having to trade assets to find the answer is a bit pricey.
-
A friend sent me this. Troll right? (Sorry if repost)
-
Bingo. If you fall in love with a QB, go after him. If you don’t think they are worth #9 or the cost of trading up, then drafting a QB just to draft one seems dumb. This is all putting the cart in front of the coach/combine/pro day/interview/etc cart though.

He played like a man possessed in the second half. He was finishing blocks and burying dudes. I think I recall a play where Chubba ran behind him for 6-7 yards while Mays mauled the dude in front of him.
-
Cade Mays was absolutely finishing the poo out of his blocks on Sunday (after Corbett went down). Kid could end up being another Norwell.

Under No Circumstances Should We Trade a Haul for a QB/Pick
Wundrbread33 replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Keep in mind that you having this opinion will be labeled as the “cause” if we don’t trade up for a QB. That’s BigKat logic at least. -

Sam Darnold’s Market Value per Spotrac
Wundrbread33 replied to ECHornet's topic in Carolina Panthers
I swear; so many people anchor their opinions of players one game at a time. Sam had an awful game, so fug him. If there was another game this week and he bounced back, people would want him as a bridge again. It’s just so fickle. -
Tanking works in the NBA when a Lebron is in the draft. The Hornets are trash in a great year to be trash. Doubt they get Wemby because Hornets, but still. Teams are small. You need stars. Tanking in football isn’t the recipe though. Too many players. Too much of a team game. Coaching/scheming matters more.

Thinking the Texans situation and our situation was comparable. What a joke.

No ones knows, but I thank Wilks for giving us something to actually watch. He did well as an interim with a staff/roster that largely wasn’t his. We didn’t make the playoffs, and we won the last game when the season was already over, so people are salty. But he did well. The people shitting on Wilks are probably the same people who poo on Burns after we didn’t trade him. It’s more about other things than personally about the man himself.
