  1. Hooker and Corral both have the physical ability to be NFL QB’s. Would just need one of them to have what it takes between the ears. If the option is trade 3 1sts to move up, vs Hooker in the 2nd while adding more premium draft talent to the roster, I’m going option two all day.
  2. Much better overall talent on that roster. Already had success with a game manager type QB. QB was literally the last piece. Look at how good that team is with Jimmy G and Brock. If they had an all pro talent QB they’d be more unstoppable than they already were.
  3. I’m really not too worried about Chinn. He plays heavy handed with shocking power for his weight. Explosive. That’s what makes him special. His position on paper doesn’t matter so much unless he is forced that way every play. He should be all over. He could line up some plays at edge, inside, or deep safety. Let’s hope we are creative with him.
  4. I’d rather franchise tag Sam Darnold than give Jones a multi-year $45 mil per. Yikes.
  5. I’m on mobile and this has become a lot of word salad. I agree with some thing you are saying, but the things I mentioned that you can evaluate specifically in the QB, are just base threshold stuff. Like bare minimum things you need your QB to do if the lights are on mentally. These things ensure that the limiting factor isn’t physical. These things DO NOT mean they will be successful. Just that they should be considered. That’s what I meant by that just to clarify. Your opinion is that Stroud is a low risk prospect, very low risk it seems. My opinion is information is way too incomplete to say that confidently. His team is the best on Saturday. We haven’t seen nearly enough adversity/him being uncomfortable back there like he will be on Sundays. He may be fine and there is a lot to like. There seems to be a strong indication that if he has the pocket and talent to throw to, he can perform in ideal situations. That’s a start. I think where we differ, is the amount we are willing to risk to get him based on our opinion of his overall talent level. Im not crying at all if we go into the season with a vet/Stroud/Corral in that QB room. I might cry if we can’t add 1st round talent for the duration of his rookie contract though.
  6. Well I couldn’t disagree more. This is common thinking with QB’s. It’s understandable too. They are the star, they touch the ball every play, and they are the most watched player because of it. They take all the blame for losses. They get all the glory when things go well. But although they are the most important, much of the blame they catch and the glory they get is an illusion, because… This is the king of team sports. It’s impossible to clearly evaluate a QB in a vacuum. And that’s just regarding on field performance. It’s even harder to predict how their off field lives will impact their career. Much of it is making sure they have enough arm strength to make NFL throws, how accurate are they in a clean pocket/under pressure/on the move. Do they have mobility if you value it. Do they show discipline and leadership. Then you get one and try to surround them with the coaching/pieces to help them succeed. And then they still could suck. Happens all the time.
  7. Film would be different because they are different human beings in different situations. Is Stroud/Young’s film so much better to warrant the cost of trading up? I don’t think so. You do. It’s cool. College stats are essentially meaningless. The bad stats like turnovers have some correlation to the league, but who cares about TD’s? It looks nice but scrubs in good offenses put up stats. The concern with Corral (understandably so) is his rehab on the lis franc, and the style of offense in college, and I think his deep accuracy is a question mark regarding consistency. But athleticism, arm strength, short/mid accuracy, release, elusiveness, foot speed, etc…well…I don’t see Stroud and Young as clear talent upgrades. Young is noticeably smaller than Corral. Stroud is a little bigger (thicker). But of course a lot of these guys have physical traits to be NFL QB’s at this point, and the make or break thing is their mental game. And that’s the thing that no one here, and no one in the front office can fully answer. That is just a wait and see and hope thing.
  8. I think so too. Much more creative. Elusive. Very natural instincts. He does some special things. He seems like a QB1 in a slot corners body. Really the only clear downside to him.
  9. I don’t even dislike Young/Stoud. They are just riskier than people think. Drafting one, and trading 3 1sts to draft one are two very different things.
  10. I’m seeing familiar faces wanting to give up the farm for these mystery QB’s that also wrote off after Corral for half a preseason game. I wonder how many were in the “Icky is a bust after week 1” thread. There’s a common theme here.
  11. College stats. Well I think I’m satisfied moving on.
  12. Makes far more logical sense giving up multiple 1sts for a proven like Lamar, than Young/Stroud who (and this should not be ignored) may have had their flaws hidden by blue chip surrounding talent.
  13. Right and the NFL told us what they thought of “insert dozens of QB busts here.” Ya’ll think this poo is simple but it’s not.
  14. People love saying “if you don’t see such and such, I don’t know what film you are watching.” It’s a cliche “dunk” attempt. It’s okay to have a different opinion, but only time will tell if Stroud/Young are worth a poo or not. Unfortunately you can’t get over the mystery of those two based on the superb talent that surrounded them. It makes it very hard to evaluate them as an individual. So things like “productions” is not as important as you think when evaluating these guys. Every OSU/Bama quarterback has “productions.” They are on the best teams every Saturday. I will say the Georgia game is encouraging for Stroud, but unfortunately neither of these guys had enough adversity in college for us to know they are worth the cost to trade up.
  15. Biased against Corral. That’s fine but at least be honest. How many games did he miss in college because of injury?
  16. People are way too thirsty being okay trading 2-3 1sts for one of these QB’s. You don’t have to like Corral, but compare full snap game tapes of him vs. Stroud/Young, and tell me there is 3 1st round difference in the tape. Take emotion out of it, and compare the physical ability, arm talent, mobility, decision making, etc. It’s tolerable trading up to 5-6 range, but trading with the Bears?…sheesh. We are in prime position to strengthen our team all over, and people want to give it all away for a maybe.
  17. Keep in mind: not everyone who isn’t excited about this quarterback class is a “wash, rinse, repeat” person. I’ve liked Howell and Corral for awhile, and they did good things at schools that weren’t powerhouses. The top 2 this class I’ve been afraid of (well documented) because they had far easier Saturdays. Doesn’t mean I end up being right. Odds are I’m wrong. But there are classes I like and classes I don’t. I don’t dislike the class every year.
  18. Calculating the value of the picks after CMC is added and they ripped off 10 straight wins to end the regular season. Classic huddle poo right there.
  19. See Matt Rhule and Ben McAdoo. Once again he isn’t just a runningback. If you just want to hand it off to a guy and throw the occasional screen, then there are plenty of Chubba Hubbards. I agree with that. CMC is on another level and it showed in SF.
  20. What? We got a 2nd,3rd,4th, and next years 5th for him. And that’s considering his injury prone label.
  21. Basically runningbacks with so so hands are a dime a dozen, yes. A Marshall Faulk type player will always be insanely valuable in the NFL.
  22. Every runningback thread contains people talking about CMC like he is just a runningback. He’s a defense breaking offensive weapon. He’s the best runner and has the best hands on the team as soon as he walks in the building. Slot corners have issues with him, let alone the linebackers he abuses every play. Watch some 49er tape if McAdoo’s usage of him is stuck in your head.
  23. I’m calling it now. If they get Carr, number 9 won’t be a QB. Not sure what I think about that, but I don’t think it’s realistic having so much draft capital sitting the bench behind him, doing nothing.
  24. People label any QB on their second team as a “retread” unless they are a hall of fame type guy. They treat them all the same lol.
