Meh. There really is no point in continuing the conversation. Have a good one. -

So you quoted my post and asked me to back up what someone said in another post? Tell me you didn’t read my post without saying you didn’t read my post. -

This isn’t a response at all to my post that you quoted. You are simply moving the goalposts. -

You really don’t know as much as you believe you do. Mentioning those players doesn’t prove what you think it proves. (Ty Hill/Greg Hardy were 1st round talents crushed by off field issues, there are numerous counter examples). It’s far more complex/detailed than that. People are complicated. Players/scouts/GM’s/coach’s are people. Players boom/bust all the time regardless of round. Talent and draft position often don’t match because of this. People have millions of variables in their lives that end up impacting how they live and how they perform as professionals. It’s just not as simple as you want it to be. -

That’s silly. You are talking about two young men who grew up differently, different families, different friends, different challenges, different physical abilities. People are far more complex than that. -

Sell me Justin Fields vs CJ Stroud

I’ll say this: much of my criticism at this point is that they had ideal situations to play in. Our offensive line is solid and we kept our oline coach. If we add a TE (or develop one), perhaps another back and receiver in the draft… …and our defense has talent. One of these quarterbacks could hit the ground running in an ideal situation. With Reich and this roster, it may be as smooth as it could get for a young QB beginning his career. -

Linville put it well. Being on a stacked team just makes it harder to evaluate how much credit goes to the QB. It’s just harder to evaluate. But that’s what needs to be done. I think it’s easier to evaluate QB’s from middling teams in power conferences. You get to see them under ideal situations (like a middling SEC squad against Tulane), but you get to see them against great adversity (playing against Bama, outmatched). Stroud and Young could be elite starters in the NFL, but it’s a lot cloudier because they were in great teams. That’s all I’m saying. -

“I’m not so sure about that.” Doesn’t mean ”No quarterbacks from top programs succeed in the NFL.” -

I don’t think you appreciate the power of a good story. Narrative causes players to fall or rise multiple rounds. Happens each year. Not just a few picks. But I’ll drop it. I don’t think we disagree much, but rather this format makes it seem so. If we were sitting in front of each other, having a conversation, it would be easier to communicate. -

This. And it’s my biggest concern over Young/Stroud. Everyone loves them. They get the most publicity. They play in big games. But they quarterback the two most consistently stacked teams on Saturday. They have talent. You can’t be QB at those programs without talent…but is it franchise top 3 pick talent? I’m not so sure about that. -
Based on Fitterer’s comments, I think you are right. I also think it would be foolish, and I also think it would still take more than what you are saying. It’s about the player (quarterback) more than the pick. If that scenario plays out, there will be a bidding war, and it will be #1 overall price because whoever is at 3 would be the #1 QB on plenty of boards. I’m not a fan of being pillaged. We would get fleeced.

People are sick of Darnold, but if Reich decides to keep him, I trust him over all the angry fans on this forum. -

The point of the clip was to highlight Rappaport’s reasons for Corral falling (not to highlight the teams feelings) He said teams passed on him due to off field concerns. He said it during the draft. He caught poo for it after the draft. He gave off field issues as a major reason Corral fell. That would be narrative. And narrative (story) dictates nearly everything in life. But that leads to philosophical conversation. Narrative is a big reason why Cam isn’t on a roster right now. Narrative that Rhule turns every team around in 3 years made him the hot candidate and got him hired here. -

You realize I could make the same arguments you made, against the things you said. However let’s look at this. Size: he measured 6’2” 212. He’s not small. A little thin for his play style? Sure. College offense: not unique to him. Tons of college teams run RPO. Every drafted QB has to make adjustments to the NFL level. And 1-2 read offenses in college doesn’t prove that is all he can do. It just shows he did what he was asked to do. Tools: no way he dropped due to this. He has an elite release. “Rips a tight spiral” and has plenty of arm strength, evident on tape. He has natural quick feet. He often handles the free rusher with ease. He’s mobile. He’s accurate short/mid and needs to improve deep accuracy. Tools aren’t the issue. -

Corral falling had more to do with ending his bowl game with an injury, a perception that he had “alcohol problems”, and an overall narrative that the class as a whole was weak. It wasn’t size, athleticism, or arm strength related. -
another option than trading for the first pick...
Wundrbread33 replied to Panfan35's topic in Carolina Panthers
Unfortunately that deal won’t get it done. Teams thirsty for QB get pillaged. No need for us to be victims for Bama/OSU powerhouse QB’s who had it easy in college. Doesn’t mean they won’t be good, but that’s one hell of a question mark going against them. -

I simply said that Corral’s game fits what Reich described in the presser. Not saying to bank on Corral. Particulate because of the lis franc tbh. A lot of people have this narrative that he doesn’t have talent because of preseason, which is just shortsighted in every way imaginable. Then some say his college tape doesn’t matter…so what the fug are people using to justify the upcoming rookies then? Tiktok dance videos? I just don’t get the hatred on this forum towards Corral. It’s legit toxic. Perhaps his mere existence scares people that we won’t take QB seriously in the draft or something. -

Thanks to those who actually read my post. It clear who did and who didn’t (or who are intentionally mischaracterizing what I wrote). There is serious salt in here over Corral. I don’t get it. -
First things first. I am for drafting a QB in the 1st or 2nd round. We need to get QB figured out. Now; people will throw poo at me for this, but the type of quarterback play Reich talked about (movement, RPO “the way the game is going”, etc)…we have a perfect fit on the roster in Corral. I know the “pReSeAsOn” argument, which has been argued to death, but he displayed everything Reich mentioned in the presser in spades on his college tape. If they think they can teach Richardson to throw, I wouldn’t mind adding him, potentially without giving up next years 1st and every 2nd round pick for the near future. But I’m confident Corral will be in the mix if what Reich described is what he indeed wants in the position.

No I didn’t. You got it.

Well Josh Johnson and Huntley aren’t selfish thugs guys. Seriously guys. How can you overlook this guys.
-
No matter who is at QB week 1, it’s a lot easier to swallow a decision by Reich than by Rhule. Feels good man.
-
Tough call. To get Young/Stroud (and seemingly Levis now) it may take swapping picks this year, and departing with next years 1st and 2 or 3 2nd rounders. I’m just not convinced any of these QB’s are worth trading 3-4 potential cornerstone players for. That’s a damn big risk. I think there’s enough QB’s in the draft that you can grab one at 9 or even the 2nd round with similar talent, while keeping picks to add weapons, pass rushers, linebackers, linemen. And I think Reich is capable of overachieving with QB’s. I’d love a top 2 QB…but is the juice worth the squeeze? Because it will be ONE HELL OF A SQEEZE.

Here’s what I like about Fitt (I’m assuming he at least made some decisions too, and not just Rhule). He does obvious poo. Our offensive line was hot garbage. He went full court press and fixed it in one off-season. Our secondary lacked talent. He drafted Horn, signed Bouye, traded for Henderson (hasn’t worked but he took a shot) and traded for Gilmore. We don’t have a QB. The players haven’t worked yet, but he’s aggressively attacked the issue. I just like how aggressive he is, and how he tries to fix obvious things. So many times, Hurney/Gettleman would leave the same gaping holes year after year. I feel like a lot of GM’s overthink things and get cute, and try to bandaid the wrong positions and make the “best player available” excuse, which is just opinion anyway. Additionally, I like taking draft flyers on dudes who are elite athletes. Fitt seems to like that too. No one is perfect, and the pressure is on him now that Rhule is gone, but there are certain things he does that are a breath of fresh air. Like every GM, he has to figure QB out and he knows this. You nail it at QB, and the fan base will love you/reputation will come.
