As I’ve really dove into evaluating these guys more closely, I agree. I absolutely love watching Young’s tape. He oozes intangibles. He’s a gamer. He’s fun to watch. I just don’t think he’s a #1 talent physically, and that includes not having a #1 prospect arm. The arm was the shocking thing to me. It wasn’t what I’ve heard it was for the last two years of hype. It’s good enough…not a noodle, but I don’t see the power throws from him, and that may be related to his frame too. There’s also so many highlight plays that people drool over, where he is back there for 5+ seconds…and that’s virtually none existent unless you play against us if Burns misses a game. That also doesn’t mean he won’t end up a great QB. It’s simply trying to pick the guy who had the highest chance of success at the next level. Stroud to me is QB1. He makes big NFL throws all game long, and his ball placement is consistently elite. He goes through progressions. The ball effortlessly (almost gently) leaves his hand, and yet the spiral and velocity are very good. The amount of throws to the sidelines, where only his receiver can get to the ball while falling out of bounds are plentiful. Those are big time throws. And he has the power throws when needed, and touch when he wants it. I don’t know what his ceiling is, but I feel like he’s the type of talent that bare minimum (aside from injury, or a complete 180 in off the field character) he won’t be the reason you can’t compete. He just seems the most “professional” when you watch him play. I could be dead wrong, but I’ve had concerns about Young and Stroud for over a year because of their stacked teams. But after a bunch of tape, I think I can confidently say I was wrong on Stroud because of ignorance.

I won’t read the whole thread but this is essentially the QB discussion: 1. Young would be QB1 but too small. 2. Stroud would be QB1 but can’t handle pressure (only counter is GA game). 3. Matt Corral died. 4. Levis drinks Mayo. 5. AR15 is secretly a TE. 6. Hooker doesn’t contribute to, but draws social security. This is basically it until the draft right?

I’m glad he mentioned the Michigan game. That game, loss or not, really sold me on ways he can be special. He dropped some absolute dimes while evading pressure, fading away.

To be fair…don’t waste time responding to it. They want a reaction. And they wasted your time.

I just like options. Corral is a young guy with a live arm and plenty of athleticism. The #1 pick will be too. I just want the QB position fixed (no poo we all do), I’d rather have two guys with potential than one. If Stroud/Young ball out of control then sure, get rid of Corral…but damn it seems stupid to do so before we see the rookie play a down at the next level.

Think bare minimum he should be kept because poo happens in the NFL. Much like SF, our shiny rookie could get hurt and/or suck, and then the franchise is what…Andy Dalton’s? And as previously stated, he may develop into a competent player that we can then trade for assets. I know carrying 3 QB’s is becoming less common, but he’s last years 3rd round pick at the leagues most important position. Should he be cut so we can keep a 3rd/4th nose tackle or safety who would clear waivers anyway (Corral most likely wouldn’t). Oh and someone will mention Eason, but he’s already shown that he clears waivers just fine lol.

Well it gets in the weeds a bit, but I’d be curious what their definitions of “clean pocket” and “under pressure” are. Important to know. I’ve watched some all snap games of his, and he makes some good throws under pressure, or flushed backwards or forced to roll out a bit. Some off balance throws too. Just wonder if all those are included based on their definitions. Not necessary defending him, as he may stink under pressure overall, but I’ve at least seen that he has ability to make throws in poor situations…so it may be something he could get used to, practice, and get comfortable being uncomfortable. I also wonder if having elite protection most of the time would lead him to being more surprised when pressure does come, and if so, perhaps if he felt more consistent pressure, he could once again get used to that. Who really knows how it will turn out but it’s interesting to discuss.

And the Michigan loss. He drops some absolute dimes under pressure/off balance. He might not be prime Russell Wilson under pressure, but the ability to handle pressure is in there, at least in some capacity.

Terry Bradshaw already let us know that Sam was the best QB we ever had.

Yeah I absolutely want a TE in this class. I really liked watching Hurst last year in Cincy, and I like Tremble (he’s been misused IMO). I also like Ricci, who made the most of his targets, but is most likely on the outside looking in due to undrafted status. But there are multiple “complete” TE’s in this draft, and I’d love to add one who can contribute while having a vet like Hurst to take some pressure off.

To be fair we had a historically (figuratively but probably literally) bad offense the first half of the year. Truly painful. Baker/McAdoo combo was something else. Last year was such a shitshow it makes it harder to evaluate skill players without diving into all-22 footage, but I admit I’m way too lazy to do that. And it’s also possible I’m overly optimistic. Hell that’s been me since the cloud of Rhule was lifted. As long as someone steps up and catches passes for our rookie, I’m good. Marshall or not. As you said, hopefully so as it helps the team.

Maybe. Snap count isn’t useless but it is incomplete and vague. We don’t know what read he was during those snaps. We don’t know run/pass play ratio. We don’t know the relationship to each QB, or which receivers/routes those QB’s preferred. It sure seemed like he improved down the stretch when Darnold gave some stability to the offense, and the offense found identity post-Rhule. A lot will be cleared up this year under Reich.

Call me crazy but I’m not worried about him at all. It’s been said, but he was in the doghouse for unknown reasons. He flashed down the stretch and made some great catches. We now have actually offensive coaches, and better options at QB (at least I’ll assume this). 55-75 catches 800-1000+ yards 6-10 TD’s Those are windows that I think are realistic, and honestly I’m satisfied if he falls anywhere in there. Just keep improving.

Oh yeah. Feel like he could go top 10 or last until the mid-late 2nd. Hell maybe 3rd at that point. QB is weird. If teams don’t fall in love, then the question becomes “when do we draft our developmental/backup QB?”

To be fair I wish Ricci got more targets. He’s a natural pass catcher and is a natural runner with the ball. He showed that when he was actually targeted. But draft position means Tremble (elite blocker in college) has been forced as a pass catcher while Ricci (actually had hands) was forced as an H-back blocker (literally the reason Tremble was loved coming out). Ricci probably won’t get a shot because he was undrafted, but so far he makes the most of his touches, while our other TE’s who lean more towards blocking, have been unreliable in the passing game. I just don’t get the logic outside of making decisions based on money/draft position.

And every parent who worked so hard to get this out of their head is BACK TO SQUARE ONE. Lol

It’s tough to do, but those who speak in absolutes, or great certainty like they KNOW what will happen with players…well it’s best to just ignore them or let that poo roll off your back. It’s natural for anyone to think they know more than they do. I think it’s rational to be concerned with his size…but anyone saying he definitely won’t make it (or Stroud definitely won’t because OSU, etc)…that’s just horseshit. Those takes suck. No one knows jack. That poo pisses me off too so I get it, but I have to remind myself to ignore these people, at least until they get off their high horse.

15-20 pounds would be significant for Brian fuging Burns, and we are pretending it isn’t a big deal for a 5’10” guy? You can like Young (I do too) while acknowledging that his frame is worrisome. This board went on and on about how small Corral looked…but I be damned if he isn’t 4 inches taller and around 25-30 pounds heavier.

And @Barney if my post is mischaracterizing how you meant it, then forgive me. There are far less charitable posts than yours that come to mind when I mentioned “haters.”

Why is it either “haters” or “believe he was the greatest” with you? Truth is in the middle. Your description of Cam a few posts back sounds more like a description of early Vick or Vince Young than Cam. Cam wouldn’t have been the player he was if he didn’t perform from the pocket too. He wasn’t a one trick pony. He wasn’t elite if he was only a pocket QB, but he was good/very good, and combined with his legs, the total combination was elite. What really got me with your post is your hypothetical about “even if he didn’t get hurt”…but let’s be real: If he didn’t get hurt, we aren’t having this conversation. Chances are, he’d still be QB, we would have never went through Rhule hell. You act like he lost his athleticism, but a 34 year old Cam is more athletic today than most QB’s in the league. And he was having a career year in 2018 with completion percentage near 68% before he was hurt. I just don’t get making things up. Maybe it’s a coping mechanism because let’s face it: we had a legit franchise QB, and it was taken away from us. That poo hurts. It always will. Let’s hope Stroud or whoever can help us move on and have some hope again.

Those questions suck. What is this Wells Fargo? Instead I hope the staff has a genuine conversation with the prospects and not this hiring middle manager BS.

Simply watching Stroud move is enough to show he has good enough speed. He’s probably 4.7ish and that’s plenty for boots, the occasional scramble against man, and his feet are quick enough to navigate the pocket. To be precise, he’s somewhere between Beuerlein and Cam.
