Athletic mock from today Top 6 picks
Navy_football replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I get the sentiment but Hurney was mostly gold with those first picks. Unfortunately everything after that was a$$. I'd hire Hurney for the 1st round, then kick him out of the building for the rest of the draft. -
Even after Cam won league MVP in 2015, it never occurred to Ron/Hurney that we could be an offense-first team. See 2016 draft. First 4 picks were a scramble to replace CB. Not to upgrade the reason they actually lost the SB.

So who are the safe choices? Give me 3 or 4 to investigate please.

Bruh?!! It's too late to run my blood pressure up like this!

Chris Harris was so underrated here. One of my oldest jerseys.

Tepper admits to mistake in hiring Matt Rhule
Navy_football replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agree. I like the idea that we have an owner that doesn't mind spending for coaching. He fell for the okey doke, but he's learning. I'd rather strike out swinging for the fences than softly hitting in to a 6-4-3. -
2 firsts and a second...

Byron Bell was UNDRAFTED. Nate Chandler was an UNDRAFTED Defensive Tackle. Became a starting RT in the NFL after playing the position for less than 1 year. How does someone do something for less than a year and is allowed to compete against the best in the world at what they do? And he wasn't a good enough athlete to even be drafted. They did Cam so dirty. Should have just drafted Von Miller or JJ Watt if they were gonna ignore the offense.

This is starting to get nasty with coach wilks.
Navy_football replied to ncguy2184's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yes! Wilks is a good coach. I agree. But which coach do you have more confidence in training a young QB and installing a new offense - including game time adjustments? And the defense lost to Tampa. More specifically, the defensive secondary. No adjustments were made to stop Brady from throwing easy lobs to Evans when every one in the stadium knew the corners couldn't cover him. -

Wilks is a good coach. His personnel changes led to a revamped run game. Rhule wasn't able to revive the run game during his entire tenure in Carolina with the same available personnel sitting on the bench. However the offense became one dimensionable. Unable to overcome a defensive gameplan that could effectively shut down the run. Perhaps he had a plan to address those deficiencies, but it was always gonna be theoretical only. Reich is the better choice if the plan is to develop an offense and a QB. And not gonna lie. The way the team lost to the Bucs was in an area directly in Wilks' supposed specialty - defensive secondary. In a game that would have put the team in the playoffs, that was not a good look. Not to mention the conservative approach on 4th downs. -
Moore could easily fit in to the Deebo/CMC mold. Always thought he wasn't being properly utilized here. He's much more versatile. Add in Shenault with CMC and this offense was a TE away from SF level playmakers. Shanahan would have made those guys household names.

I've been saying this for YEARS! It never seems like the Panthers never run rub routes or concepts that scheme guys open. Seems like it's always individual routes where they have to beat the man covering them in a vacuum. This is so refreshing. Welcome to the NEW NFL Carolina. Now let's get another WR or 2 to make the transformation complete. This level of scheming doesn't require the #1 or #2 QB in the draft.

People really don't give the Bengals receivers the credit they deserve. Burrow is really good, but those receivers make his life a lot easier.
-
I think coaches that are successful with multiple teams because they're able to handpick their teams. Hard to find a coach that turns around multiple bottom feeders.
-
That can not happen. Every team remaining has a HC with an offensive background.
-
Oh heck no, I don't think Jimmy is very good. He was the biggest hinderance to that offense. Purdy is definitely better extending plays. Jimmy has better command of the offense though. But to be fair, he should.
-
I just don't see Purdy being able to keep up with Hurts and the Eagles. He limits the offense now. There's enough tape on him now to scheme him have to play to his weaknesses.
-
Purdy was very limited in the throws he could make yesterday. If you can take away the middle of the field, he's relegated to screens only. I don't think I saw one deep out route or hitch/comeback completed outside the numbers.
-
I agree with that. But running QBs present challenges that defenses can't always prepare for. The 49ers linebackers do have wheels though. If any defense can keep up with Hurts, they can.
-
Shanahan said Garoppolo could be back for the NFC Championship. If he's back, they have a chance. Purdy has taken them as far as he can.
-
Well, the team was a wrist injury away from making the playoffs this year - and it wasn't a QB. There's more to a team than a passer.
-
Reaching for need is rarely the right move. This would be more than a simple reach. It'd be a move of desperation. Drafting the wrong QB in the top 10 sets you back at least 3 seasons.
-
So we all acknowledge Rhule held back the offense - particularly with his personnel decisions, but also game-planning and direction. And in the same breathe tear down a rookie QB that got minimal opportunity to learn the offense, because he performed poorly in preseason games. Corral has the tools and attitude. He needs the right opportunity and coaching to be successful.
