  1. No I'm talking strictly pros. Honestly I didn't watch much of him at Alabama, so I really wouldn't even know where to begin discussing that time in his career. I've seen him give LBs and Safeties moves in the open field that left them standing in place - more than a few times. I've seen him lower his shoulder to get 1st downs. I watched him break 2 tackles by defensive linemen that had him in the grasp last Sunday (on the same play), as the pocket completely collapsed, on his way to a first down run. He's not Cam but he's stronger than he looks - particularly because he is really small for a QB. He's not Lamar, but he's elusive in the open field. It's ok not to like him, and still acknowledge what he's done and is able to do. And not just make up in your mind that he can't do anything, at all, ever. It's ok. He's gonna be here for at least another 22 games or so, no matter how he plays. Maybe as fans we can support the positives and be optimistic the negatives will improve with time and help from his coaches, playcallers and team mates.
  2. No I haven't. I have seen him put linebackers and safeties in the matrix though. He's an elusive runner. Stronger than he looks too. Not strong. Just stronger than he looks - if that means anything.
  3. I don't know. He's shown himself to be pretty elusive when given a chance to get in space. We'll see.
  4. I agree with the second part. Cam was best when he wasn't hesitating to run. That's what made him special and a nightmare to defend. Surprisingly elusive for a big bruising runner. Ron should have focussed on securing a quality offensive line in the 5 or 6 good years he had Cam - especially since he inherited an all pro Center that stayed around the entire time. I used to blame Hurney and Gettleman, but he did the same thing in WAS. Started with a great oline, and invested all his resources into the defense - and again he can't keep a QB upright because they're getting murdered on the field. Ron also wouldn't sit Cam whe he was obviously injured. Marched him out there hurt with JAG receivers and a make shift oline. That took years off his career, and is almost unforgivable.
  5. I know he's a rookie, but he's been Amini-level bad. And that's not some ish you say lightly.
  6. I'm not sure how anyone can honestly say what we have in Bryce Young right now. From the protection to the receivers to the lack of a running game. How can you possibly make a definitive statement on his ability to win games when the supporting cast on offense is performing at such a horrible level. Maybe he ain't the guy. But comparing him to CJ Stroud right now isn't fair. It just isn't. CJ may be better, but the gap isn't as big as it appears right now.
  7. Not only is he not a force in the run game, he's often a liability that is targetted. He's undisciplined with his hand in the dirt - getting too far upfield and creating running lanes. And he's just weak at setting the edge. He does excel at running down the ball from the backside and blowing up slow developing runs though - I'll definitely give him that.
  8. Agree with all, but this team is not remotely on par with Clausen's Panthers. Gross and Kalil were pro-bowlers. That's your center and left tackle. Throw in Wharton and you have an above average oline. Steve Smith, Double Trouble, heck even Gettis and Jarrett would be an upgrade over what we have on this offense. I think Bryce would look alot better than Clausen did with that offensive cast, even with Frank calling plays. But I 100% agree that he has to start taking shots down field. Maybe he doesn't trust his targets anymore. He took a few early to TMJ and Mingo, but they don't have the ability to go get the ball. Marsette and Strachan desperately need more snaps - if nothing else, to add a threat of speed on the field.
  9. I think we're seeing the impact interior pressure has on an offense - against the Panthers right now. Sacks aren't needed when you're constantly disrupting plays with the defensive players closest to the QB at the snap. And in our case, we're hardly even slowing them down.
  10. And that's what I was so excited to see when someone mentioned it after the hiring. Actually scheming guys open instead of, run the route and beat your defender. Steve Smith is the last receiver this team has had that could do that consistently. And that wasn't route running as much as, being faster than the defender and/or outjumping them for the ball at the point of attack.
  11. Yeah. Definitely a Ron when it comes to stubborn minded, resistance to change approach. Just keep pounding that square peg into that round hole.
  12. Yeah Frank confused me with that one. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes with TMJ, so I won't comment on that one. But Blackshear was the most elusive player on the team once Laviska went down.
  13. 100% I don't think I'll ever forgive Ron for what he did to Cam. And the talent he had on defense was friggin criminal - mainly because that's where he invested all the resources. The fact that this team keeps getting QBs without being able to protect them is... weird. Just NFL average is what I'd like from an oline. Not Philly or Dallas. Just average.
  14. and more importantly, he's no body's "yes man" he could save Tepper from himself
  15. Why are you so dug in when it comes to Bryce Young? Every one is saying the same thing, but a few here want this rookie to be perfect when no QB is or ever has been. Honestly. Did you just not want the Panthers to draft him? Do you just not like short QBs? Really, what is it? Honest question, because he's really not nearly as bad as you're making him out to be.
  16. Exactly. I guess football players don't care about RAS or S2 scores for that matter...
  17. frankw, Devito stepped up into the pass rush with one sack and there was literally no pressure - clean pocket. Another, he stepped up and ran left into the pressure instead of throwing the ball away - but he was at least able to step up into the pocket. Another, he was sacked by a safety, when WAS blitzed a CB and a S. Someone is open on that play. Just a slow read. That's just taking advantage of a rookie. He's made a few big throws - one to Saquan so far, but his pocket presence is not that good. I'm trying to be as objective as possible and saying 2 of the 4 were his fault. What he's doing better than Bryce (if that's what you're looking for) - pushing the ball downfield. And I agree Bryce has to do that more.
  18. Can you provide pass block grades and hurries, sacks, hits? I'm watching the game and alot of those sacks are on Devito. Obviously not all, but so far I can put 2 of 4 on the QB.
  19. Holds true at every level after high school. Not always true in high school and below, but usually is. But this ain't even about winning on the line. This is about getting your A$$ whipped all game long.
  20. Awesome! I'll watch that game. All sacks aren't solely on the oline. Sometimes QBs are at fault, but that's pretty bad for anyone to work in too.
  21. So out of 59 offensive plays. 36 were called passes. Not sure why more passes than runs yesterday, but that's another story. 6 sacks, 1 hit, and 9 hurries from the interior line. That's right in your face. 45% of your dropbacks resulted in pressure up the middle. Factor in the tackles and 61% of your dropbacks resulted in pressure. 22 of 36 passes with a dirty pocket or pressure (mostly from the interior). 14 of 36 dropbacks without pressure and he completed 16 passes. Factor that with the receiver win rates/separation and I'm not sure what this dude can do. Not as a damn rookie. And I distinctly remember Mingo dropping 2 balls that hit him in the hands, and even Thielen should have caught one that he let the defender take away from him (had it in both hands). Our QB isn't without fault - what rookie isn't? But just because the team gave up a lot to get him doesn't mean he can perform miracles. No QB can work in this situation.
  22. Receivers are really slow. Hate to say it but Mingo is getting too much burn. Smith-Marsette should probably get in more along with Strachan.
  23. Bro! You have to watch it. Every bad play except the pick 6 was because of Bozeman. It's really really really bad. Even on Bryce's fumble, Bozeman missed his block which is why Bryce had to tuck and run. If Icky is beat outside, there is no where for Bryce to step up into the pocket because... you guessed it. When Bozeman holds his blocks, the plays are almost always wins. He has to be replaced. It's that bad. Only takes one lineman to ruin a play in the NFL. He's that guy.
