I think he has a good game. The narrative is changing enough that teams don't feel as confident stacking the box against #9. If they would have announced this earlier, I'd feel even more confident that they'd mostly ignore the running game and focus on shutting down the pass.

XL. Ladd is making that pick look like a mistake today. Like Bryce over Stroud bad - so far.

Xavier Legette's Christmas Dinner

My dad is from the Denmark area in SC. He told me raccoons were some of the cleanest animals and usually washed their food in streams before consuming. Not sure if that's true or not. I've never eaten it. Don't shoot the messenger. -
Rookie in a bad offense. They have weapons so just need to figure out how to best get them the ball.

Agree, Houston's oline isn't/wasn't good. I just think Carolina's was a crap show. And Houston's scheme and weapons definitely helped mitigate their bad play. Guards and tackles both getting beat at the snap on the same play in Carolina. Bryce was definitely shell shocked, and rightfully so as a rookie. The FO had to fix that. It wasn't sustainable for any QB long term. CJ is getting a taste of it now due to injuries at the reciever position. But even with Diggs and Dell out, his weapons are still better than Carolina's. CJ will adjust. He's too good not to. But the FO should be a little more intentional with improving the oline. They have an embarrassment of riches at the receiver position. Guys they could sacrifice to improve the oline.

Again, watch a couple of Houston games from last season and tell me what you see. Watch a couple of Carolina games last season and tell me the QB was pressured less than Houston's. Even Dalton's great game against Seattle saw him under constant duress and taking multiple HUGE hits. Don't watch the highlights. Just watch the offensive snaps for both teams. It really wasn't that close. And all pressure isn't the same. Outside pressure that allows you to step up into the pocket is doable. Immediate inside pressure with the outside shrinking on you is not.

I honestly get the impression that many don't watch other games. They just stat watch. Every time Bryce misses a throw - after making 5 completions in a row, 2 being of high difficulty: he sucks, high school QBs should be able to make that throw. Meanwhile, Josh Allen misses the exact same throw in a game.

Stats don't always tell the story. Stroud has played better than Bryce both years. That is not arguable. Stroud has always had a better supporting cast than Bryce. That really is not arguable either. Now if you really watched the games last season, you could tell Stroud was in a much better situation with regards to protection, playcalling and receivers. He was throwing to a lot of wide open guys with little to no pressure most times he dropped back. That gives you the confidence to stand in the pocket and trust your receivers when things get dirty. And those receivers were making big plays after the catch. I don't care what pressure statistics you're looking at, but when I watched the games, Bryce was constantly facing pressure with receivers that couldn't beat their men and playcalling that didn't scheme guys open enough. You had to give him a mulligan after that. And that was as a rookie. So Stroud is facing now what Bryce faced as a rookie with regards to pressure. In his second season, he should be better than rookie Bryce. They have weapons to spare over there in comparison to Carolina. Bryce may have benefited from such a tough rookie season, as he seems to thrive under pressure now. Teams are learning that you can't just blitz him any time you want anymore. He's finding the answers and making you pay. Stroud hasn't quite gotten there but he will. He just hasn't faced it to the degree that Bryce has, until recently. They're both good young QBs right now. Different. But good QBs right now.

I agree about the playoffs. Just depends on who they match with early. I was just saying that CJ still looks like the guy and is just going through a slump, and he still has enough weapons to overcome the breakdowns in protection. Guys were open all day. Even early reads. He was just missing throws. Imagine losing Diggs and Dell and still having multiple playmakers left. Panthers would fold if they lost their possession receiver.
-
I think he had a bad game. Like the Panthers at Dallas. Every QB/team does. He still looks like the guy. But agree, you can't string together so many bad misses in a row. It looked really bad. The Texans are a pretty good team in the worst division in football. They'll be in the playoffs for awhile. Even without Tank, they have Nico and Dalton Schultz. Metchie seems to be figuring things out and little too. And Robert Woods is their Adam Thielen.
-
I agree those guys were more than just ball distributors. They were elite ball distributors or game managers. But none of them were elite by their 2nd seasons. And they all had better weapons. Hopefully if Carolina adds a real all around receiving threat, Young can follow their trajectories.

Thanks @FreeFua I was just going from memory of watching the games, but here are a few others. Denver: 15 for 56 Saints part dieux: 15 for 72 Panthers never "established" the threat of a running game. Teams did stack the box and sent a lot of pressure though early though. That was their game plan going in. I think Young showed them something they didn't think he could do. That's a good thing.
-
Not sure that's completely true. Some of Youngs best games since the benching were ones when Canales seemed to forget we were a running team.
-
I really hope he takes advantage of this opportunity. He won't get many more if he fumbles this one. Talent will get you more opportunities, but there is a limit. See Antonio Brown and Josh Gordon.
-
Most of his time here was with Dalton. And Young is greatly improved since he left. So much so that you'd have to consider if he was a contributing factor - trying to force feed him. That's not Bryce's skill set. Right now, no one can put Bryce in the same category as CJ. That would be comical. But the gap is closing.
-
There isn't one receiver that defenses plan for - including TEs. Not one. A lot of teams have two or more that you have to pay close attention to every play. Even game plan for. Panthers don't have one that just really concerns you. Please don't say Thielen. Be serious. A good receiver dictates coverages and alignments.

Every QB needs weapons. Every one. Mahomes 1st round pick was a WR. They got Diggs for Josh Allen on top of what he already had there, and then they drafted a WR in the first . The Ravens have been trying to find WRs for Lamar forever. Herberts first round pick was a WR. If you don't have a playmaking WR, then you're looking for one. Hence why their salary increase is pacing that of QBs. But Bryce is supposed to make due when his best receivers are a 34 years old UDFA and a rookie UDFA. Y'all are truly tripping as this point.
-
And coaches/play callers that didn’t know how to use you or the rest of the team.
-
I don't know if he'll be the answer, but he's definitely trending in the right direction. I'm legitimately intrigued. We're watching a QB develop week to week, right before our eyes. Not there yet, but it's a bull market.

Vikings defense reminds me of the 2015 Carolina offense. They're just out there having fun!

I thought the same thing. He looked really fast out there. And decisive. See ball. Get ball. Keep it simple.
