Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is
Navy_football replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers
So you think Hurts would have won a Super Bowl, a MVP or all pro while playing QB for Carolina the past 2 seasons? Are you serious? -
Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is

I think I get it now. Some of yall think a QB is the end all be all of a team's passing success. To me, they're just a bigger cog in the machine. One player can ruin a pass play for a QB. One. One player on any pass can completely ruin a play for a QB. One guard's block. One tackle's block. One TE's block or drop or bad route. One WR drop or bad route. One RB block or bad route. QB is THE single most dependent position on the football field. The team determines a QB's success. -

Yeah, ok. Put Hurts on this team. He ain't NONE of that. NOT A ONE! LOL back at you. -
Yeah, their defense isn't as bad as they look on paper. They are fast and will hit. I think this is gonna be a street fight. 4 of their 6 loses have been by less than one score. The other 2 were to the Bills and Cowboys.

No he doesn't. He's had the better running game the last 2 weeks. But not his career. Geez. If we're going that route, then how does the defense play into the equation? Pretty big too if going by that approach. How has this defense been the last 2 seasons and first 3 of this year? -

So if you have a good running back, that helps a guy catch the ball and get his feet in bounds? That helps a guy go up and catch with 2 hands instead of trying to one hand it and drop? That helps a guy get open in man because you gave him an extra .5 second? -

I agree 100%. Cam wasn't the most polished passer and rarely threw with anticipation. But he was all around the baddest dude on the field every game. I just thought the argument was about passing. Actually think BY is very underrated as a runner. When he isn't fumbling the dang ball. Hopefully he's gotten that out of his system. -

You're asking who has the better pass blocking and RBs? Not sure that helps receivers get open and catch the ball though. -

Well I disagree. He'd have more passing yards than Hurts on Philly. Tua in Miami. Lawrence in JAX and Murray in Arizona. That's my opinion. None of them are blowing him out of the water right now, and they have more established receivers. -

I just said as a passer because that's been the argument right? He can't make throws. He can't make the right decisions. He can't throw over 30 yards. Honestly doesn't change anything for me. None of those guys are scary enough runners that it makes a difference. Except Murray. That little mofo is a blur! Hurts is a great short yards option as well. -
Carolina isn't good enough to assume a win. Every game is a dog fight.

Right now, off the top of my head I'd put him above: McCarthy Russell Wilson Jalen Hurts Justin Fields Spencer Rattler Kyler Murray Maybe Trevor Lawrence Tua Maybe Caleb Williams Penix Cam Ward I'm not looking at stats. I'm thinking more on the lines of if you traded teams, would BY be able to do more there and would the other QB be able to do more in Carolina - as a passer. -

I think I could name more than that. Here's a small nuance. Who do you think would be better than BY in Carolina? Who would Bryce be better than on their team? Is he still bottom of the league to you? Just my way of looking at it. -
For a true center, not a guard transitioning? Yes. That's allowed. He has to be an All American though.

Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is
Navy_football replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, but that's kind of my point. But this is a results-driven league, so there's that. Bryce doesn't play like a bottom tier QB to me. Every QB gets bailed out by his receivers a couple of times in every game. I just rarely ever see that in Carolina. Even Tmac hasn't really bailed Bryce out yet. I think he'll become that guy but he isn't that right now. Thielen was the closest thing to it, and he really isn't the type of athlete at this point in his career that should be your go to receiver anyway. How many plays can you think of in the last 2-3 years where a receiver made a play on a ball that you didn't think he'd be able to? I remember J. Sanders catching a jump ball last season. Maybe that short throw to TMac this season where he went WAY up to get it. Just don't see those plays too much here. What you do see a lot of is the ball hitting receivers in the hands and them not coming down with it. That's what happened with XL early in the season and dude just lost all confidence in him. He wasn't coming back to the ball. He wasn't high pointing passes. He wasn't muscling defenders or even getting his feet down in bounds when he had a chance. Those are things you need to expect from your receivers if your gonna throw a pass that isn't to a wide open guy. Just my opinion. -

Honestly, I don't think his play puts in the bottom tier. His results do. Right now he's a middle of the road guy. -
They should have. Just not as a rookie. A 4th round guard should be waiting his turn to start by his 2nd or 3rd season. You don't throw a 4th round rookie to the wolves unless you have to. Break glass ONLY in case of emergency. Mistakes were made. But now that they have a baseline, it shouldn't happen again. Keep stacking one every season to get ready.
-
I'd say just draft guards 4th round or later every year. You'll always have a few waiting in the wings if a guy wants to get paid big money. Every player is important, but just average play at the position is sufficient in the NFL. Save big pay days for WRs, QBs, LTs and CBs.
-
And Damien Lewis. You should NEVER overpay for OGs. It was just an overreaction to how horrible the guards were in 2023, so I kind of understand. But you don't need the best OGs, just serviceable ones.

I’m gonna say it… I’m proud of Bryce.
Navy_football replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well he definitely needed to throw for them to score. Which is what he did. That and 3rd/4th and short plays when the run game couldn't get it done. They tried running a few times in those situations and failed. 3 TDs in the game for Carolina. 3 of them were passing TDs. Canales didn't want that to be the case. It was out of necessity. -
Eight of Bryce Young's nine wins have come off game-winning drives
Navy_football replied to TN05's topic in Carolina Panthers
I respectfully disagree. "Pro Bryce people" can agree that Rico had a crazy game AND that does help the passing game. Conversely, I'm seeing a lot of "it takes 200 yards rushing by Dowdle for BY to have a decent game." Everyone here has been on BY for the fumbles the first 2 games and not pushing the ball downfield. Everyone. Pro and Anti. Separately, the best WR BY has ever had in the NFL is a current rookie - with lapses in concentration, not using 2 hands on more than a few occasions, and marginal speed. He has great size, understanding of route concepts, and the ability to make "wow" catches too. So potential is there to be great in what he does. But right now, he ain't even remotely on the levels of George Pickens, Waddle, Stephon Diggs, or Drake London - just looking at the last 4 teams Carolina has played. And everyone after TMac is marginal at best and wouldn't be top 3 on any of those teams. That's not an excuse. That's just facts. BY absolutely needs to be more consistent, but there really is a lack of speed on this offense. Love to see more Jimmy Horn to correct that.
