Yep. Either would immediately upgrade the receiver room and step in as the #1 option. Regarding XL, I don't think he'll ever be a true #1, where he's by far the best receiver on the team and draws a lot of attention from the defense. If you have 2 of him? That may work. If he's your best receiver, you're gonna leave a lot on the field.

PFF names Panthers QB Bryce Young the best deep passer
Navy_football replied to pantherclaw's topic in Carolina Panthers
He doesn't have elite arm strength but he does have good arm strength with elite arm flexibility. Mahomes is the only freak with both. Bryce is dropping some nice passes from less than ideal arm angles. And plenty of zip when he wants to. I do think he's still figuring out when to put some mustard on it and when to leave some room for error for his receivers. That's more timing and chemistry in my opinion. -
PFF names Panthers QB Bryce Young the best deep passer
Navy_football replied to pantherclaw's topic in Carolina Panthers
It was never that Bryce had a weak arm. He just didn't take enough deep shots. And again, he was overthrowing guys. Not underthrowing them. Sure, a little more arc on the ball would have helped his receivers, but we don't have a real deep threat receiver. The closest was Chark last year but his hands were iffy at best. Timing was more of the reason for those misses than lack of arm strength. And that's mostly due to the room for error throwing deep to guys that aren't deep threat receivers. Mingo, TMJ, Thielen and Coker are not deep threat receivers. That doesn't mean they'll never catch a ball 30+ yards downfield. But it'll take a little more to get it done with them. Legette could be. But his hands are holding him back right now - like Chark. -
We can't downplay the lack of a big play WR. Legette and Coker seem like solid players though inconsistent. Really need a guy to stretch the field and/or make defenders miss in the open field. Panthers don't really have that right now.

I'm thinking the same. A lot want to go all defense in the draft. That's okay if they bring in a vet #1 WR. Right now, it looks like David Moore is the best reliable target on the team. Let that sink in. Not exactly a good situation for another rookie QB. The oline is just ok at pass pro, so if they do bring in a rookie he better be able to run. That's the only way I can see him having success here right now. When is Sellers eligible again?

Bryce Young has not been good as a pro for most of his career. He's been downright horrible at times. Hopefully he's figured things out and is turning a corner as a pro. But come on with the exaggerations. #1 recruit in his high school class. 2-years starter at Alabama where he won a national championship and the Heisman. Consensus #1 pick in the NFL draft. But the Huddle has decided his physical limitations prevent him from being an NFL caliber QB. Make it make sense y'all. It's best for Carolina if Bryce Young works out and becomes the franchise QB they thought he would be when he was drafted. You can support him without 100% believing he's the guy.

Chris Long: Bryce Young Went Toe To Toe With Patrick Mahomes
Navy_football replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Didn't Teddy have DJ Moore, CMC, Chris Samuels and Robbie Anderson in that game? Just saying. -
This is him feeling confident and making the team his. No going back now. Those stinker games won't be tolerated.
-
And... a surefire HOF QB.
-
Yep. Notice he doesn't "overthrow" Legette on the deep routes, like he did TMJ, Mingo, Thielen, and Coker. He's used to speedier wide receivers. He probably had quicker/faster receivers in high school. But he needs to learn to adjust to the player.

I think this was different from the Green Bay game. In Green Bay, he showed that he could fire some shots into tight coverage when he just let it loose. This game showed a mastery of the offense. Knowing where to go with the ball, manipulating defenders, trusting the oline and receivers. And it has been a steady progression. Green Bay came out of nowhere. This performance started in Denver, and steadily progressed through the Saints and the Giants. I think he's kind of figuring it out. The only questions now, is can he be consistent, and how much better can he really get?

I've posted it before. The Panthers' best targets are: a rookie 7th WR picked in the draft, an UDFA rookie WR, and a 4th round rookie TE. I think they're gonna be good if they keep developing, but that doesn’t look good on paper. Actually looks horrible. Even worse than last year.
-
This is the right approach. But will add there is reason to be optimistic based on the last 4 games.
-
Saquon should really be in the MVP discussion. He looks like the best player in the league right now.
-
Dominant enough to sucker the Panthers into paying Miles way more than he's worth.
-
Oh no disrespect here either. Just a discussion on opinions. You are 100% entitled to yours as am I. He definitely doesn't have the physical tools that you look for, but that doesn't mean he can't be special. An outlier. He's been that his whole football life. I'm holding out hope that he can develop into that guy at the NFL level. He's done it at every other level on his way. And he's finally starting to show what everyone thought he'd be. The past 4 games have shown steady improvement. With him and the rest of the team. Even the defense.
-
Maybe in a vacuum, but probably more appropriate to compare his game to other QBs that have played KC this season. And I wouldn't call that a mediocre game. Have you watched the other young QBs play lately? Everybody isn't lighting it up, even against weaker defenses. And carolina had no run game to lean on today.
-
I agree he needs to be more than a game manager. My point was that he's improving. He may take longer to get to what they wanted when they drafted him. If he's trending to be a franchise QB then you allow him time to become that. Does that mean he's meeting expectations as a #1 pick? No. But that doesn't matter anymore. Some guys take longer. Most guys take longer.
-
Doesn't matter when he was drafted at this point. If he can continue to improve, then we have our guy. If not, then we try again. Right now, he's looking like he's improving. Too early to give up on him now.
-
Bro... if that happened to me now, I would relieve myself on the field and cry like a baby.
-
Also downplaying the impact of this receiver corp. Thompkins should have scored a TD on the first drive. Legette dropped a perfect deep ball. Tremble dropped a TD too. They are still bottom of the league. Trending up. But still bottom of the league.

Nobody likes moral victories, but...

Receivers room is still pretty weak. Agree otherwise. QB room should continue bringing in competition too. -
This is the 2nd most yards they've allowed to 1 QB all season. Lamar got them for 273 in a loss. He also ran all over them. But he's a different animal.
-
If he plays like this the rest of the season, they'd better be bringing in another backup level vet, and focus on defense and weapons in the off-season.
