  1. Burns has never remotely played at the level of prime Mack. Not remotely. Mack was a menace. He took over games. Burns is a decent speed rusher and a liability against the run.
  2. Burns is no longer on his rookie deal. That changed everything. This is not a fail by this FO. Was hoping for a player and a 2nd, but that was always gonna be the best they were gonna get for a malcontent that didn't want to be in Carolina anymore.
  3. If Dan is any good at the draft, they can pull 2 starters with this trade. Starting OL and WR, for a decent pass rusher that's bad against the run. Remind me again how much Burns has impacted games since being drafted. I honestly can't remember any games he took over. He isn't Peppers, Charles Johnson or Greg Hardy. He was never that guy in Carolina. Maybe he can improve in NY, but this isn't the huge loss to the defense some are making it out to be.
  4. This is the difference between relying on stats and watching the game. Marsette wasn't wasn't given the opportunities he needed to show what he could do. Maybe he didn't know the playbook. Maybe he didn't practice well. But by the end of the season, he was the only player on offense that looked like you had to respect his speed.
  5. Man I agree 100%! Somebody should have definitely made him more of an option during the season. Politics of the game...
  6. This team isn't so devoid of talent that it'd make sense to draft a defensive player other than pass rusher. No other position is in play on the defense with 33. WR, OG, OC and TE are much much much bigger needs. Maybe QB, but they need to improve these positions before they really know what they have at QB.
  7. Travelle did us proud! Captain was ok. He made a few plays here and there, but I wouldn't give him "pretty good." But agree that injuries weren't a concern. I guess my theory applies to more recent players. And... I just don't think Legette is the right pick.
  8. I'm from Columbia, but I think this team needs to give up on Gamecocks. They all seem to contract the injury bug when they come to the Panthers. Edit: In other words, no to Legette at 33.
  9. Ladd McConkey running a sub 4.4 is all I needed to see. If he's still there at 33, you run that selection in, just in case somebody made a mistake. No replays.
  10. Agree that Worthy looks like a football player and not just an underwear Olympics warrior. Good hands, good route running, great ability to track the ball - even in traffic, and obviously elite speed.
  11. I look at Jameson as a 1st. He's only on the 3rd year of his 1st round contract. So we'd have him for 3 more seasons on the cheap, given the 5th year option. Burns will need a new one now that'll be nearly 30 mill a year. That will definitely play a role.
  12. I don't feel like Evans is the best type of wide out to fit a Carolina offense with Bryce and this oline. Short area quickness is more fitting than downfield speed and playmaking.
  13. I think this makes great sense for both sides. Not sure Burns is worth Jameson and a 1st. I think Jameson and a 2nd would be fair compensation. A future 1st could be in play though.
  14. Rivera did the same thing with the oline in Washington. Came in with a really one, and slowly replaced it with defensive linemen. He did better with receivers though. Not a lot better. But better. He inherited Logan Thomas and scary Terry.
  15. Agree in theory, but Burns' pass rush relies solely on his speed. I think it's very possible that Burns hits a wall as he gets to that 28-30 range. Similar to running backs. He really isn't a well rounded hand in the dirt DE.
  16. I mean I remember Peppers being in the MVP talks as a defensive end. Running backs were a little more likely back then but it has always been an offensive back award.
  17. I'd take Williamson, a 2nd and a 3rd. And never look back or question the move. Win for both teams.
  18. I was thinking, wasn't he drafted in 2021? The math ain't mathing...
  19. That's fine. As long as they can play outside. Smitty did it at 5'9".
  20. Smith-Marsette definitely has a dawg mentality. He needed to get the ball more once Shenault went down. Anybody could see he was the biggest playmake on the team by the end of the season. But politics are a real thing in sports. Always have and always will be.
  21. I love slot type receivers. But the Panthers need an outside threat to open up the middle. No one is afraid of our X beating anyone deep. That's crazy in today's NFL with the best athletes in the world and we don't have one.
  22. Yeah, I don't know if the Panthers can get Higgins or Evans. I'm just saying players will come to Carolina if this is the best financial offer on the table. The whole idea of guys chasing super bowls is way overhyped. Especially for younger players.
