  1. Definitely set the wheels in motion if Bryce doesn't show huge improvement this season. But don't draft a subpar prospect just for the sake of drafting a QB. Continue to build the team until a stud is available. Dalton can probably hold down the fort with the o line changes, until the right guy is available in the draft or FA (less likely).
  2. Ya'll do realize that consensus #1 pick QBs rarely participate in the combine... right? Nothing to gain. Only to lose. That's not a scammer. That's just good business sense. If I knew a kid that was the consensus #1 pick in the draft, there is no way in heck I'd let him go to the combine. Even a small injury could knock him out of the #1 spot. There just isn't a reason to go.
  3. The eyeball test is subjective. You can say he has a weak arm, I can say his arm is strong (which I'm not). Who has the better "eye" for football velocity? Bryce doesn't always throw fastballs. Actually he rarely does. But he's thrown enough to show that he has more than adequate velocity. Decision making, trust in his oline, trust in his receivers... needs work. But arm strength is low on the things he needs to improve. Right along with footwork. If that's how he plays, then I'm fine with it. He's shown the ability to throw with adequate velocity and accuracy at very awkard arm angles. So he doesn't need to have stellar footwork to make throws. I could see it helping his timing though.
  4. I really don't get this take. Is he in the top .1% of the population like Flacco, Josh Allen, old Cam Newton, Mahomes? Heck no. But he definitely has a better arm than some are giving him credit for. Good enough to win in the NFL.
  5. Reich was forced into a situation he didn't originally anticipate. Losing DJ Moore was huge. Couple that with the incredible regression of the offensive line (mostly through injury), and he didn't know how to bring the team back. Bryce wasn't good enough to save his job like Cam did for Ron. Hopefully a little stability, flexibility and luck from the injury bug will be in Canales' favor.
  6. Usually I'd agree with you 100%. HC needs to oversee everything. That's why I didn't like Reich calling plays last season - that and he wasn't very good at it. But in this case, it's necessary. It's very important that Bryce and the offense get off early. Canales acknowledged how important it was to bring Evero back. He can almost take his hands off the defense and let Evero cook. They even brought in some players that have played for Evero in the past, setting the defense up as more prepared to roll with less changes and playbook teaching than normal for a new HC. Consistency is important for just that reason. It's difficult to learn a new playbook with limited practices - offensively and defensively.
  7. No strato. He definitely COULD have made more plays, but asking a rookie QB to lead such a bad supporting cast is not realistic. And I think Bryce was overthinking out there. He didn't trust his team mates. He didn't trust the playcalling. He didn't look prepared. The WRs didn't look prepared. The oline didn't look prepared. It's ridiculous they couldn't figure out how to block a stunt or delayed blitz all season. No rookie would have been successful in this offense last season. No rookie QB, no rookie WR, no rookie olineman, no rookie RB. Not just Bryce. No Rookie would have looked competent when the vets aren't at least NFL average. Couple that with bad coaching, and ... impossible. Not saying Bryce is the answer. Saying we don't know. And the hot takes most are on here making about him are just not true. That or just gross exaggerations.
  8. Agree. I think I said that. If he regresseds and is unplayable, he'll sit. If he's at least "ok" he'll get all season and some of 2025.
  9. Bryce and Thielen have hooked up on that exact route a number of times during the season. Granted, it's usually thrown with more velocity because defenders are right on his tail, but...
  10. Running backs and linebackers take the most punishment in a football game. No other position gets the level of contact those positions get. Running full speed into another super athlete, who is also running full speed. The era of bell cow backs that take 90% of the carries isn't really a sustainable way to operate. Defenders have gotten too big, too strong and too fast.
  11. Ok. This is ridiculous. No one is bringing in "real competition" for a first round QB, let alone the #1 pick in the draft. That's not how it works. Anyone deemed competition is really just a dog and pony show for the crowd. Politics are a real thing in sports. Always has been. Always will be. Bryce will get all of this season, barring injury or him just completely regressing to being unplayable. I'd even think he gets the first half of next season too. Just accept it and move on. The Bryce sucks takes are really getting old. I get it. You mostly just don't like him. From the too little, too brittle, too short to see, to weak to break tackles, too slow to outrun anyone, too weak of an arm that he can't throw the ball 50 yards, and so on and so forth. Any person without a motive could see he never had a chance with the offense around him - oline, receivers, scheme and playcalling. He should at least have league average this season. And this is not a super star supporting cast on offense by any means, but it should allow him to play within the offense and not try to do too much too early that he comes off looking incompetent. A couple of linemen and receivers he trusts to do their jobs is all he should need to show what he can do. If he doesn't show up, then he gets shown out. But let's just give him this season at least. Jeez.
  12. I don't think there were ever many "that's my quarterback" crowds. He had a horrible season. There were a lot of "we don't know what we have because the team is so bad" folk though - myself included. I didn't think your post was calling out Bryce, seemed more of an acknowledgement that the offense was void of talent. But I guess you really were calling out Bryce. At least you're consistent.
  13. 3000 yards is not a good goal. 30 TDs is a little too many though. 4000 yards passing. 20 TDs. Throw in another 200 yards rushing.
  14. Frank? What game did Sam Darnold play over his entire time in Carolina where he look remotely as good as Daltons one game against Seattle? Name one. Not even stats wise, with a much better supporting cast. Agree Bryce needs to play better. The oline needs to be better. The receivers need to be better. The TEs need to be better. The running backs need to be better. The scheme and playcalling need to be better. Yet, some are hung up on one player not elevating all those weaknesses. But you're right, barring injuries, we'll know more by November-ish.
  15. No one is making an argument FOR Bryce Young. I think we're just pointing out the fallacy that Dalton was this huge improvement at the QB position that would have saved the season. He wouldn't have made it through 8 games. He wouldn't have passed 60 times a game. He wouldn't have played an injured Seattle defense every week.
  16. The point is that Ladd could replace Johnson at a fraction of the cost. If Jaycee stays healthy, they're gonna have to make some hard decisions in a couple of years.
  17. It's crazy how you don't need a team full of ringers if you can actually coach.
  18. Johnson is gonna want $20M+ next year. That's why they should have drafted Ladd.
  19. It's like folk didn't even watch the game. Dalton took a beating, and barely avoided a lot more violent hits. No 35 years old QB is going to survive a season like that. Imagine him against Dallas or Houston or Indy or Detroit or New Orleans twice! He played better than Bryce in that 1 game, but he wouldn't have lasted half the season.
  20. I really don't see it with Penix. Sure he has a strong arm, but he was just out there chucking the ball deep to a receiving corps that was better than the Panthers last season. Odunze, Polk, McMillan and Bernard is a crazy group in college! I just don't see his play style working in the NFL.
  21. Yeah... Teddy had real weapons when he was in Carolina. DJ, Robbie and Curtis Samuel are legit weapons. Throw in CMC as a receiving back and that was an obvious underperformance.
  22. I'll go first: 4000 yards passing 20 TDs passing and rushing Anything less would be disappointing in my eyes.
  23. So what will define a successful season for Bryce Young in 2024? Please don't come with the "look like a real NFL QB" type responses. Like statistically. Yards, TDs, INTs, QBR, wins, etc. What will it take for the masses to believe Bryce is the franchise QB they drafted, and last year was just a cluster fug of bad team ball?
