As far as ATL is concerned, it's ''smart'' BOTH ways: 1) Have your QB of the future in waiting 2) Considering the investment in Ryan, Julio, and that fact that they're a solid defense away from being a playoff contender, I can see them also drafting to win I don't really think there is a wrong answer here for them, they could even trade back, barring injury they likely have 2-3 premium years left in Ryan and Jones, with guys like Ridley, and Hooper at TE, they're in relatively good shape no matter who the QB is from a weapons stand point over that small window. Guys have to realize that moral victory will have either cost us the QB, or additional draft capitol. It's going to be a crazy off-season, you'd have to think Stafford is traded before his 10M roster bonus in March so we will start to see things take shape. DET is in a good spot if things play out their way, picking at #7, with the potential to land a 1st + additional comp for Stafford to begin a rebuild.

Packers did it a year ago... Anything can happen, I think we will have to jump to at least 5 to secure one of the ''considered elite'' QB talents. I can see it happening, but I'm not sold on NYJ taking a QB considering Darnold is three years removed from a top selection on what has been a dumpster fire of a team. I'd say they could trade back, and look to continue to bolster that roster. However, the cost for #2 is high finding a trade partner might be difficult, OL / WR IMO are biggest items to address in NYJ vs securing another young signal caller to bring into a depleted roster.

They told him to do that bc he was gone regardless!

Trading Up to 3 or 5 - A Look Into the Potential Cost**
SetfreexX replied to SetfreexX's topic in Carolina Panthers
And adding Stafford is a not a SB move in the next year to two so there's no point, Cam was healthy and we moved on from him for age / injury history, why would we trade for a QB older than Cam, with an injury history just to move on inside three years... We went the FA QB route it backfired, and we already have TB's salary for at least the 2021 season, so you think trading picks and taking on Stafford's salary makes sense? Bigger picture the QB rookie contract is EXTREMELY valuable as it is a fixed rate, that allows you to have cap available at other KEY positions for the up 5 years. It's how PHI / LAR were able to build SB capable rosters around Wentz, and Goff. Their issues were they paid guys out past when the QB's got extended & they ran into the cap issues. SEA did the same with Wilson for his first several years in the league as well. Get the QB, build the roster around them early. -

But with a trade up there's this thing called cap space that we get to keep, or are you ok with an All-Pro RT in Moton hitting the streets, or not having cap to bring in some veterans to fill glaring holes like OG / LB / DL & secondary depth. -

Trading Up to 3 or 5 - A Look Into the Potential Cost**

Just using this to set the stage on expectations, I'm sure it will as it has always been a premium, this is just to give viewers an idea, something to speculate with based on some form of fact. -
With pick 8, you'd have to assume Lawrence / Wilson or Fields go 1 and 2 based on early mocks / media commentary. So that means you'd need to get to MIA at 3, or CIN at 5. ATL is at #4 and could be in the market to draft an heir apparent to Ryan, but there's been no talk that has leaked yet, so let's assume for now their interest is elsewhere. Current Panther Draft picks (Provided by): http://www.tankathon.com/nfl/full_draft 1st - 8 2nd - 39 3rd - 73 4th - 104 5th - 135 6th - 169 7th - N/A I will see if I can locate our comps, as I don't think they have been finalized yet** At 3 or 5, you're likely looking at Fields / Wilson or Lance... Pick Value (Provided by): https://walterfootball.com/draftchart.php #3 is worth 2,200 - Swap our 1st, and give up our 2, 39th overall (510), and 3, 73rd overall (225) = 2135 (Would likely see a day 3 added in there, or a future day 2 potentially) #5 is worth 1,700 - Swap our first, and give up our 3, 73rd overall (225), and 4 (86) = 1,711 Our pick at #8 is worth 1,400

IND - IMO makes the most sense, fresh off play off with the roster to supplement an above avg Quarterback with a big arm. Another piece is, it would be hard to believe DET would consider a trade to a team in the NFC. I do not believe Stafford has a ''no trade clause'' like DeShaun so he can't hand pick a destination. DEN - also makes a lot of sense since they do not have a lot invested in the QB position as Lock was a 2nd rounder and his cap number at the position is team friendly. NE - I have a hard time seeing this, that roster is old, and I would think a re-tool / re-build is in order, they were missing A LOT of pieces due to COVID opt outs, so could be interesting.

Trading up for a QB is better than, 40 and a 1st for Stafford. How do you think KC got Mahomes, they traded up, PHI traded up for Wentz who was good til' the injuries hit. You don't trade for a QB with a 33M cap hit while also paying Teddy 20M+ and also having no future plan at QB because you JUST traded away a 2022 1st round pick. That is idiotic. I suppose you don't want to keep the ONE good OL we have in Moton, let alone have cap / draft capital to devote to the OL. I swear tg ya'll are mental.
-
If you expect us to be good we're picking at the bottom of the rounds...this is not how you set up sustained success. Draft the QB this year, avoid paying the premium QB money for 4-5 years as you get the 5th year option, and BUILD UP THE TEAM AROUND THE QB. We are cash strapped till 2022, we can't afford to have TWO 20M+ QB's on the roster, what is wrong with you people!?
-
That is a poo deal. This is smoke. If we don't draft a QB knowing damn well we are in rebuild status I'm done with the team for a while. Paying Teddy who we can't cut, only to then trade pick 40, and a future 1st for a QB at the end of his career, plus he's making premium money. We cannot be this stupid...

This is their first stint in their current positions at the NFL level....so ''new''. Enjoy yourself.

Now that the GM presser is out of the way....additional thoughts?
-
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/teddy-bridgewater-14441/ Teddy is here until 2022, 20M in dead money if cut this off-season (2021), the June 1st designation if memory serves is to spread the hit out over two seasons. That would make no sense when we need that money. In this case it's cheaper to keep him, give the new QB, most likely a rookie someone to compete with.
-
Normally when all three of these things align a ''New QB'' is all but guaranteed, so with that being the case what would you like to see? Initial thoughts, if we trade for Watson how do we handle the dead money from trading or releasing Teddy? Would we be able to FT / extend Moton? Potentially losing multiple first round picks in the process on a team that still has lacking talent on the OL, LB, and secondary. Being able to build around a talented rookie at that pay-scale allowing us to bolster other parts of the roster over the first 5 years of a rookie's career is an extremely valuable asset knowing the money that Watson or even a Stafford would command, I'm not really in on Stafford as he's always seemingly an injury risk, and he's older than Cam so that's a move that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
-
I'm not seeing the need for a 5th safety. I think I'd rather see an additional receiver, also don't see the need for nine offensive lineman, Gradkowski can play G/C as well as Remmers being able to back up C. I see one of the extra guards losing a spot to a T signing before I see us keeping ten total lineman. Aside from that I agree with most of the roster, I think I'd swap Byrd for Brown, and Garrett is my 6th receiver, I think we've seen Browns ceiling, he showed me the same as his rookie year solid 3rd to 5th option. While Byrd may be able to eventually replace Ginn, and Garrett adds another option with size at receiver even if he doesn't see the field often as a rookie.

Stephen A. Smith believes we should apologize to Steve Smith
SetfreexX replied to nctarheel0619's topic in Carolina Panthers
EVERY QB will throw a few passes per games to receivers like him because unlike a Funchess, Ginn, or Brown, but more like KB he would, and those other number 1 quality receivers will either go get it, or it's incomplete more often than not. -

I'm just saying you guys treat one of the few players we've ever had worth cheering for like he didn't GIVE HIS ALL EVERY GAME no matter how crappy we were at times. And if you don't think #1 WR's don't demand the ball on EVERY NFL TEAM you're an idealist. -

SetfreexX replied to nctarheel0619's topic in Carolina Panthers
Simple he improves the chance to win THIS year, and retires a Panther for probably a 6th or 7th. I'd pull the trigger, instantly makes us better, being released and away a year has allowed the locker room to establish new voices to the future core. I'd imagine a player like Smith Sr. could keep it together and focused for a legit, last ditch effort at a Superbowl run. We literally have nothing to lose, I can't imagine one player, or true fan being against something that makes so much sense, Muhammad came back, Ginn came back, Smith should be afforded an opportunity as well to return and be productive. However with all that said I think it's only a dream. -
