  1. oh I get it, Newman is that guy you read about in the mock drafts
  2. I didn't say mac Jones, I said QB #5, which is still very fluid now between him and Lance The QB orderings right now are entirely media fabrications, and a raw fcs player who played one average game this season and won't get a combine is especially vulnerable to the head coach treatment that comes when coaching staffs start to get involved in the scouting process at the end of the season There isnt a conventional range system with QBs, either a guy is a 1st round guy and you take him or he isn't, and it very much looks like 5 is the magic number
  3. the odds that four QBs go before 8 is borderline absurd, it's the absolute nuclear scenario, and in which case I'm pretty content to take guy #5 in what is apparently an even better class than we think, or laterally just take Sewell/top pass rusher and whatever it
  4. great point Zod, thanks for highlighting this obviously a well ran organization would see the opportunity ahead and seek to build a team that can dominate for a sustained period if you trade for a declining QB, you cap out your rebuild while spending valuable resources that could be used to improve the team for a shot a couple 10 win seasons Great point
  5. fascinating seeing you employ the same tactic in your argument that you're referencing in negotiations "arguably" lol
  6. This is a textbook argument on why coaches shouldn't wield personnel control
  7. If we used our 1st on nothing it would at least come with the assurance that the team hadnt deluded itself into a false sense of security that they had addressed the QB position
  8. I feel like we've got to worry about both the new in house QB coach and Joe Brady who quite demonstrably views this job as nothing more than a stepping stone stint actively campaigning for a guy who yields the easiest, quickest results for them
  9. if this happens I am going to start to suspect that this is simply a poorly ran organization the Bridgewater signing was terrible, but it was, so far, an isolated incident this would be indicative of a trend
  10. would seriously just rather not do anything with that pick at all
  11. either I don't understand you or you dont understand me
  12. you know what you could also get for a 1 and 2? The 3rd pick in the draft but id bet folding money if this indeed is the teams thought process, that they've convinced themselves of their own cleverness with the dream of shipping off a first for Stafford, "addressing" the QB position, and then shipping #8 overall off for some 5th wave prospect and another projected low value 1st or a couple 2s to replace the future 1 they gave up it's the definition of cutesy for a team that is in pretty solid positioning for a long term answer, it's what happens when you let math people make football decisions
  13. I'd like to believe we're just trying to make Houston think there's a crunch to get a deal done with us but a stupid move like this that treats 1st round picks with wanton disregard is right in Seattle's wheelhouse
  14. I don't think he can nuke his way out, if he makes Houston look desperate, nobody is going to offer them much, and this is one of those scenarios where youd rather get nothing, at least for a little while, then face the embarrassment of a fire sale
  15. Me, I did, just as I begged the team going into the offseason before Cam's final season here to be cognizant of the real possibility that it would be his final season and to stockpile a few draft picks for a deep QB class the following season Look, I am not saying I should be the general manager of the Carolina panthers I am just saying Justin Herbert would be our QB if I were
  16. we warned tepper this would happen with the Bridgewater signing but like a small child *just has* to verify first hand that the stove is, indeed, hot, he just had to see it play out
  17. I didn't realize there were only two options, thanks for enlightening me
  18. Gantt is still stuck in this fox era view of panthers football where the ultimate goal is for the panthers to stay in their lane, make the sensible, safe, economical move and build a really scrappy roster that contends for a wild card spot
  19. if there's one thing Darin Gantt us good at, it's having opinions that don't match NFL franchises'
  20. you have absolutely no point of reference for this, and it really ultimately isn't about what he does, it's about what he should do
