he will be used rotationally if that’s the only standard you’re after and saying “likely needs a lot of work” kind of just feels like you’re assuming a broader point rather than evaluating the player

The Panthers keep making the same mistakes under new GM.

because that’s likely how he’s going to be utilized early on until he develops his intermediate game -

the point here is that you can buy quality center player for next to nothing and get veterans in the process but I don’t think people want veterans, I don’t even really think they’re in love with the players i think a lot of people just love the idea of taking centers, either because they’re an easy to project position that probably has a low bust rate and the thought of a bust terrifies a lot of people, or people just like the idea of drafting a center high because it’s tough and huzzah and build those trenches and that seems most “cool” by having big time pick investment -

“the panthers will continue to value WRs over centers” yes welcome to the national football league -

both the jets and giants have been every bit as awful as us, how are those ELITE PLUG AND PLAY CENTERS doing for those franchises -
I too wish we would’ve taken that plug and play polished and ready mega talent at pick 72

Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2
Growl replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean we heard the reports pre draft that brooks was their guy there’s nothing to indicate center was ever in play -
Panthers Select Michael Barrett, LB, Michigan Pick 240, Round 7

Not a bad pick, intense, productive. Potential special teams value as well. -
Really felt like will reichard was worth a selection feel like they’ve shopped for need a good bit here the past few rounds

When do we pick again

Panthers Select Ja'Tavion Sanders TE - Pick 101, Round 4

I posted earlier with some data that this really isn’t true. They arguably could’ve used more athleticism. -
they wouldn’t.

Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3

I also found this. So the whole “RAS obsession” point is indeed a fan manufactured talking point. It may potentially veer up post Tepper but as noted above, the last two classes have not been demonstrative of that. -
Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3
Growl replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
There’s nothing to suggest the panthers fixate on high RAS score guys at a rate that’s abnormal, they finished middle of the pack last draft for average RAS score by team and whereas I cannot find the team by team average for the draft prior, the scores outside of Brandon smith and Amare barno-the two players people constantly use to prop this argument up-none of the players were anything other than “solid” and sometimes “average” athletically in that class It seems far more likely that they are taking athletic but raw players in the 3rd and 4th round because those are the types of guys you typically find there, and that the rest of the league is doing the exact same thing -

the weird thing is that most of these places have him pegged as a 3rd rounder the crime is that we didn’t take a guy from their Alma mater -
Who are the day 3 prospects you want to see us target?

take Brenden rice so we don’t have to watch him go to San Fran and have to listen to the niners media hype cycle -
so if we say “yes they did” I’m guessing you’re not gonna be like “okay I’ve reconsidered my position” huh

People are still evaluating QBs as if they are or are not “worth” a 1st round pick, when cost has become a huge consideration the broncos didn’t talk themselves into believing Bo nix was an elite prospect. They did come to the realization that a solid quarterback integrated into their offense, who is cost controlled is every bit as valuable as a defensive tackle they kinda like. In Payton’s case, he certainly believes he is qualified to maximize Nix an insider with a comment made by an nfl executive said it best: there is no longer a middle class for QBs. The idea that first round QBs should be transformative is an outsiders take, but cost comprises a huge part of value for teams and rookie contract QBs are highly valuable that isn’t to say teams are enslaved to the salary cap, they definitely aren’t and that’s been proven over and again, buts it’s these elements that make it so malleable. at least that’s a line of thinking prevalent in the league right now

by all accounts this is an interpretation issue on your end -
hey exposit on the plethora of reasons why an additional year of contract control for an expensive position “doesn’t move the needle” you seemed to have forgotten when all those people told you to stop pouting like a little girl earlier
-
also the more I think about it the more the “but rbs aren’t valuable” argument is moot because the center obsessed people wouldve absolutely still complained had they taken a CB
-
your perspective is that the panthers haven’t been able to replace Ryan kalil because they haven’t added a long term player but it’s not important to have a long term player at center the capability of the center has fluctuated depending on whom they have chosen to line up, his relative health, the scheme fit. But at no point have they needed tenure there. They need to make the right decision in free agency. Do that correctly and it is it no value if there’s a new face there every season.
-
RB isn’t the least valued position. Center is. That’s what makes the point so hilarious. The further point is that you don’t need to draft centers high to “protect Bryce young,” I actually spoke to that point in my last post to you. your concern is BUILDING THOSE HOG MOLLIES with big time investments that you can be proud of, but it’s a waste of money, a waste of draft capital, a wasted opportunity to get players who can add to your win total. ELITE ALL PRO CENTERS aren’t adding to your win total versus the good center you bought in free agency at a much more reasonable price than what you would’ve paid at every other position RBs are valuable as drafted prospects in this spot BECAUSE they generally don’t get second contracts while still adding a player who can change the make up of your football team
-
there’s the issue, this isn’t the way the draft works. your approach is confined to “well I just wanna get a good player bro” but that’s not the way teams draft. you have to deploy assets relative to value. Quality center play can be bought for cheap at anytime. You can’t just go out and buy high end touchdown scorers or quarterback sackers without making a massive investment-except for the draft. Setting a pick on fire to take a center (and then probably having to overpay him in his second contract because of pedigree) may make fans feel good because they don’t have to worry about getting a BUST but you’re not building a sustained championship caliber roster that way.
