According to Scott.... QB competition between Matt and Sam
thefuzz replied to Lurk21's topic in Carolina Panthers
If Matt beats out Sam in training camp, I'm going to be SHOCKED. That said, I hope he does it...don't think he will, but hope I'm wrong. -
Hahahaha, not until you sign on the line that is dotted...LOL. It's going to change in the 3rd Q if I had to guess...like I said, maybe pricing doesn't fall, but the selling will slow down.

There are two different systems being argued as the same. I value the ability to cover, rush the passer, tackle, and diagnose...the very things that Luke was great at...Ray is a thumper, and a very good one, but IMO Luke was the better football player, in his prime due to his ability to do everything on the football field. That said, like all things football, different folks value different things. I think Jerry Rice is the best player of all time, many will say Tom Brady or LT...everyone is different.

Luke is the best 4/3 MLB ever, IMO. He could have played in every single decade and era of football. Ray wouldn't be nearly as valuable as Luke in todays NFL.

Sigh. (It hurts when you see it pointed out like that)

I agree with you on all points but starting him just for the sake of knowing what Sam is. Corral is a good prospect, I don't want to ruin him out of the gate. I think we get Sam until he implodes. -
I kinda disagree with this small portion.... I think a lot of teams knew that Russ could play, and play at a high level..we just didn't have nearly as many GM's that were able to see it all. Most still want the 6'4" guy...and all did back then, and couldn't get past it. Dude played a TON in college, won a ton, was an A+ athlete, and was clean off the field...was just short. Too short for many to look past it. That said, I don't think that we got a Russell 2.0. I think it's closer to Russell .75, and we need to coach him up.

Darnold can play, so long as CMC is out there, and we keep it simple. Meaning, we run the ball, do a lot of quick hit passes, and play good defense. Operate like NE did when Brady was young...you can win like that, but typically only if you have a very smart head coach who almost never makes mistakes......... If CMC is out, and we are counting on Sam to score more than 21/23 points per game...we will be in trouble.
-
Darnold does have a quick release, and he if the first read is open, he can operate like an NFL quarterback...it's when he has to think...that's when it all falls apart. I see Sam likely starting the season, but wouldn't be surprised at all, if Corral is the starter 8 games in.

I would hope at worst, your team should be somewhere around .500 at home over any 3/5 year period. -
Most excited I've been about a draft pick of ours in a while. Super glad he's here.

Correct team structure has started. Now what?

I only give out pie, but I made an exception. I'll cheers you instead, because by my calculations a good pie is worth about $15.00 and a decent beer $5.00....so cheers I liked your post until the bolded. And for that, we shall agree to disagree. Cheers. -
We are going to struggle against the run. I don't think that statement will be proven wrong this season. That said, if our offense can score tons of points, that's not really an issue. I have my doubts.

That jumped off the page at me, and us staying on the clock for so long was....ummmm My wife was literally digging her nails into my arm saying "please take Icky, please take Icky", 'why are they taking so long", "what the hell????", "he's a State kid, take him". Finally it was over. P.S. My wife couldn't have cared less who we took, she was cheering this on knowing that if it was someone else I was going to quit the Panthers and she wouldn't get to go to Munich or London next year if we get to go.

Totally agree. We don't "have" a QB right now, and the best way to win games in todays NFL would be to play nasty defense, and have an all out unstoppable run game. I'm 100% thrilled he's a Panther...I thought he would go No. 1 overall due to the same reasons we coveted him. Take pressure off of Trevor, let Travis get his wheels rolling in the NFL after a terrible injury, and solidify a top tier position for 10 years. I'd just like to hear from a GM that had one of the other guys rated higher. Dude seems to love football, and is extremely smart...the pass blocking issues just seem like they can be taught to a guy like that.
-
Really good write up. I know they won't compare players that aren't on the roster, but I wish I knew what Fitt's saw in Icky vs Cross and Neal? And hear from another GM who preferred Neal or Cross over Icky. Other than the obvious stuff that we all know about, and can see. The behind the scenes stuff.
-
Yup. Give me the two rookies all day. If we had a loaded roster, or a super top end coaching staff...my choice may be different, but it's not, and we don't....especially if we had to hand over 3 1's or 2 1's and DJ. This is the smart move for the current state of the franchise. Plus, I don't care much for men who abuse women...at all.
-
Yup. It's almost an out of body experience.

Yea, sold some stuff that's been underperforming for a while...gonna sit on cash for a bit.

I read this title as "Clowney wants to play for a team with the most cap space."
-
If you are going to do this, get Fitz.
-
You and I will not see eye to eye on this. We need a left tackle, we drafted him to be that, RT's and LT's are no longer weighted like you are speaking of. He will be fine, and we aren't going to be good either way.

The "Way-too-early" 2022 Drafts from 2021 (It's not what you think/QBs)
thefuzz replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hello Andrew Norwell....I hope. Looks to me, after watching a bit of him, that he's just stiff...not a fluid athlete....but has bulk and strength. I'm digging it. Maybe he can compete for a starters role at a guard spot next season. -
Me thinks you are maybe overvaluing the LT vs. the RT. In todays NFL the "best" tackle isn't forced into the left side, used to be yes, when defenses typically put their very best pass rusher on the blindside. That is over now. Both sides have to be able to pass block and run block. Moton is one of the best RT's in the league, we don't need a RT, we need a LT....and that needs to be Icky this year taking his lumps when we can't really expect to push for a playoff spot yet.
