  1. Are you telling me the offensive skill positions for Lucks rookie year were better than Newtons? Not now, then.
  2. Please look at Andrew Luck's rookie teammates, and compare them to Cam's. Luck, Fleener, Allen, Hilton, Wayne, and Ballard. Newton, Smith, Olsen, Shockey, Williams, Stewart, LaFell. Who had more weapons? This is in response to the "more with less" thing, BTW.
  3. Was I being a bad fan when I was screaming at the top of my lungs to not sign these overrated players to stupid contracts 4-5 years ago? Wonder what has changed...it's not you, who supported overpaying these players...
  4. Um, anyone who follows football knew these were bad signings that would haunt the Panthes for years and years. Those signings are why DG is here, and why I believe we are going to be a legit football team again. You are clamoring for the same stupid signings again, along with most of the younger posters.
  5. Do you want me to go back and see what you were posting in the extension threads for DWill, Stew, Beason, Anderson, Godfrey, Kalil, Johnson threads? If you liked those signings then, you have to deal with us not being able to help Cam more now. The only one I liked was CJ's, even though it was more than it should have been, at least he's a legit player, at a very important position.
  6. If you win a Super Bowl, sure it is. Cam has no leverage, he will play here for 3 more years minimum, or he will sit out, and lose all that money. Roughly 55 million dollars. If he plays poorly, no team will give him a bid deal, if he plays brilliantly, the Panthers can sign him to another deal, tag him again, or trade him for a boat load of picks. Get over it man, he's here for a while. Bring this nonsense up again in the 2018 offseason.
  7. Who did we get in the 1st last year? And in the 3rd?
  8. The thread was made to show that you don't have to go out and spend huge amounts of money on other teams players if you draft well and have an able QB. We just got the able QB 4 years ago, and have started drafting well over the past two seasons. I don't think for a minute that we can't do what the Steelers and Giants did back then within the next 4 years. However, if we try for it all now (Colts) I have a real fear that we will not be able to continue down this path. Slow and steady won the race for the Steelers and Giants, I'm happy with that approach going forward.
  9. It's because we had to. It will not always be that way, but it was last year, and this year. Once Cam is locked up, and KB is a little better, I have little doubt that we will start to lean heavily on the offense.
  10. How could the team get blindsided if they know they have him for another 3 years?
  11. This team, is in no way being run like the previous regime. You can't compare them.
  12. Pierce is D, I'm talking O only. I missed the McKenzie one. Like I said in the OP, I'm sure I'm going to miss one.
  13. Have you read the forum the last few days? Smith, AJ, Crabtree, Royal, Cobb, the always mentioned Nicks, etc.... About half the posts here are about adding weapons for Cam, and while I agree with them, at least put some numbers with the names. I have full faith that DG knows we need more outside weapons, but not at the cost of not being able to re-sign Norman, Cam, or Luke. These WR's are getting crazy money on FA, money that we can't afford to spend. As to weighing options, I bet DG has talked to every single FA WR's agent of note, but none fit the $$$ so far.
  14. You want to give DG 4 drafts to match that?
  15. The point of this thread is to show that Super Bowl winning teams do not have to go out and spend big money in FA to win a Super Bowl. These two teams had great D's, and a capable QB, very similar to us. Out of the 4 super bowls, you had 1 large offensive FA signing. That's it, 1. We are drafting well, not overpaying outsiders, and are going to be able to keep our own talent in house for the foreseeable future. Life is good here, not great yet, but good.
  16. It doesn't matter what Cam thinks, he's a Panther for at least 3 more seasons. This isn't the NBA.
  17. Um....Eli's was a little more than Cams but was a 7 year contract (bad for player) Ben's was less than Cam's and was a 6 year contract. (bad for player) Cam signed a 4 year contract with a huge option year (better for player) You can try your best to change the facts, but the fact is, the Panthers have seen this blueprint work, and they are going to photocopy it.
  18. Jeez.... As to the bolded part, how do you know they aren't? Also, do you think that this is the best time to get the most money out of the Panthers? (answer is no) Do you think that Bus Cook know's how to set up a big time payday for a franchise QB? (answer is yes) Cam is staying here, as we have said for years, for at least three more years. Deal with it.
  19. Did you read the post, go back and do some research and come back with this?
  20. I went back and looked at the two teams that the Panthers have stated time and again that they want to try to copy. Then looked at their QB's, who IMO are very similar to Cam Newton as far as ability to play the game, and overall QB rankings. The Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger, and the Giants and Eli Manning. Both are fantastic teams, and both QB's were high draft picks that are similar to Cam Newton if not worse when they came into the league. I then looked at their most recent Super Bowls, the rosters and how they acquired those rosters. I'm working on the offensive side of the ball, since that is what I hear everyone screaming about. I didn't have time to completely run through every player, but looked at the names that I remember being big time players for them. The 2005/06 Steelers: RB: Bettis and Parker, both drafted, home grown talents. WR: Ward, drafted by the Steelers, and Randel El, drafted by the Steelers, then allowed to walk and sign a huge deal elsewhere, only to come back, sign cheap and win a ring. (sound kinda familiar?) TE: Miller, home grown. OL: Faneca, Kemo, Starks....all homegrown. The 2008/2009 Steelers; Homes: Homegrown/drafted high, but not as good as KB RB's: Nothing to write home about other than Parker.... Colon and Hartwig, Homegrown, and cheap vet. The 2007/2008 Giants: Jacobs: Drafted 4th round, homegrown. Burress: FA in 2005 6 years 25 million. Shockey: Drafted in 2002, long before Eli got there. The 2011/2012 Giants: Cruz: UDFA/homegrown Bradshaw: drafted/homegrown Barden: 3rd round draft pick/homegrown Manningham: 3rd rounder/homegrown Nicks: 1st rounder/homegrown Ballard: UDFA/homegrown I will go ahead and admit that I'm sure I missed a couple guys in there, but that's the direction I see this franchise going. The only big name FA for those 4 Super Bowls was Burress, and we all know how that turned out, even though they did get over the hump with him. Flame away.
  21. Lot's of agendas in here. Calm down, Cam hasn't signed an extension yet because both he, and DG know it's not the best time to do so. We still aren't in great cap shape, however, we will be next offseason. Cam has very little leverage in this situation, and he and his agent know this. Cam is under contract this season, and we can use the tag for the next two on him. That would put Cam in his 8th season becoming a FA, and if you can't see that this team is headed in a better direction by then, I don't know what to tell you. Next year expect to see Cam signed long term, along with Luke, and probably an extension for KK or Star, depending on performance this year. This team's future looks bright from where I'm sitting.
  22. Name names, and quote cap figures. Then we can have a discussion.
  23. This, this right here, is why you don't chase after the big names in FA.
