Gonna be honest, the drafts in Seattle don't concern me as much as maybe somewhere else. Pete has a LOT of sway in that organization, and he's an old school coach. His fascination with great defense and running the ball may very well have cost them dearly, I know it did the Panthers for years with Marty in charge. Tepper makes me the most nervous, then Fitt, then Rhule.

This is how I view it as well. It's why I struggle with Brown, even though I know he's a good player. Taking 4th tier players in the top 10 can be rough on your team...especially if you miss.
-
Again, show me a 1st round TE that has produced consistently over his first 3 or 4 years in the past decade. The track record is there, if you choose to ignore it...fine, but it's real.

Panthers will "pay any price" for Watson (via Sportsnaut via PFN)

Yikes. -
Understood, but the fact remains...TE is TOUGH to transition to in the NFL and this team isn't even close to "one piece away" from the playoffs...when you get to that point, we can talk S's and TE's in the 1st.
-
I'm not equating where he went to school or the offense that he played in....I'm stating that rookie TE's tend to struggle...and for a while. Not interested in a lower tier position group such at TE or S or OLB (4/3) at the 8 spot...or anywhere in the 1st for that matter.

Please go back and look at how many 1st round TE's make impact early in their careers.

A comprehensive breakdown of the top QBs in the draft.

Thanks Verge. Teddy Bridgewater. Marty Hurney. Ron Rivera. That slip to 8 is going to be painful. -
Very cool.

Could we be sleeping on Mac Jones? Charlie Weiss says YES.

Just tossing it out there, but the super athletically gifted passers typically burst onto the scene a little faster...but the really good passers tend to stick around for a LONG time. Not many people are going to look at Brady, Manning 1 or 2, Rivers, Stafford, etc...and knock them for their inability to scramble or rack up yards...but they were/are starters for 20 years and you can win championships with them. I would much prefer to have a Josh Allen or Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers...those dudes have it all...but I'm not going to bitch if we get a slow footed, but really good passer. Mac Jones isn't my cup of tea, but he could absolutely be a very good starter in the league. -
Tepper said prepare for 5 or more years to right the ship, but then signs off on multiple bad contracts in Teddy, CMC, and Shaq? A backup QB, a RB with 2 years left on his deal, and an off ball LB to a massive contract? How can he look at the roster, hire a "builder" in a coach, then allow the GM to make mistake after mistake after mistake and shoot his shot early. Why didn't we actually build like he said he wanted to? Also, just a year after making those statements, now we are in a RUSH to find a top 10 signal caller while apparently not caring at all about the long term future of the team? I just simply don't understand. Frustrated is the correct feeling maybe. I know many here get excited when things "change"...new coach, new QB, new GM, etc....but until the winning starts, or until I can feel comfortable with how the team is operating, I'm gonna remain pretty damn skeptical.

Keeping Teddy: Sit where we are in the draft, especially if a top LT falls. Take him, and tag or sign Moton, I prefer to sign. Draft centered around the offensive line and secondary. Take a shot at an older MLB, if the money is right. Let Curtis walk, but maybe bring in a decent possession WR or TE. Continue to cut the fat and keep the contracts manageable. In other words, continue to smartly build a football team. Be ready to swing for the fences at QB when the moment arises. I'm not big on giving up multiple 1st for any player....ever...but I would do that for Trevor, but that ain't happening. I wouldn't blow a gasket if we moved a player and a 1st for Wilson, but not two 1's. I'd move two 1's and CMC for Watson. No other QB's are worth a trade up IMO, too risky.

Because we have an owner who couldn't recognize that his new toy was, and had been run by incompetent people for a long time, and he was perfectly complicit in continuing down the same path set before him by the previous owner of said new toy. There was a simple path laid out in front of Tepper, Hurney, and Rhule....none of them could see it, or worse, they thought this roster was a winner or close to it.
-
One says Stafford/Wilson, the other said Fields/Jones. End of the day, intelligence is weighed heavier than arm strength....in my book.
-
Valuing depth now.
-
Neither did Marty. It was just one of those things.
-
Likely because they have a "bigger" cut on their minds. Who is making quite a bit of money that the coaching staff, front office, and owner have not publicly backed this offseason?
-
Agreed. I'm not going to give someone 5 years to clean up a mess...especially when he should have understood the process better after being part of the ownership group of the Steelers. Mistake after mistake after mistake....nah, I'm out until proven otherwise. Even with bringing in a new GM...he still forced said new GM to accept "his" coach. Maybe this trend is the right one, but that's not a recipe that I'd like to start with.
-
Yet another bad signing.....sigh.
-
Ah, so you don't think some vitriol is needed toward this team from a lifelong fan? How many winning seasons have we had in this 25 year journey? This isn't being fickle, it's calling the owner and team out deservingly. Guess you liked what you have seen the last 3 years?
-
Fickle? How long have you been a fan?
-
Minchew.

At this point, I'm not so sure I'm opposed to trading for GM, and just outright cutting Teddy. Really don't want to mortgage the future on a player in this draft not named Trevor. Don't want Teddy starting again and us eeking out 7 wins while pissing off the fans even further. Shame. Shame. Shame.
