  1. There is a reason that the Rams traded Goff...he's good, not great. If they want to keep their jobs for longer than the previous staff there, they may want to look at getting cheaper at the QB position, and getting better long term. If Fields is there, I'll be a little shocked if they don't pull the trigger, or trade back a couple spots.
  2. If you cut him and designate him as a post June 1 cut, his dead cap is halved and charged over the current season, and the next. He would still count for the 30M, but it would be 15M in 22 and 15M in 23...effectively "saving" them 15M on the 22 cap.
  3. Goff costs the same to keep or cut after this season. If they choose, they can lower his cap by 50% next season by designating him as a June 1 cut....so instead of him counting 30M against the cap in 22, he would count 15, "saving" them 15M in cap hit that season...keep in mind the cap is likely to balloon with the new TV deals. Meaning DET could have Fields as the starter in 23' while paying a total of about 20M in starting QB pay. Goff's 15M, and Fields' 5.5-6M cap hit. But sure, stick your flag in the ground.
  4. Agreed. This is just playing nice....kinda like what we did with Cam right before we cut him. Jimmy will be trade bait....then be cut if there are no takers.
  5. Follow the money. If a big armed, athletic, but raw QB were to fall to them, they have Goff as the starter for this year. Rookie gets to learn under Goff, not be rushed to the field, and next season DET can keep or cut Goff depending on how he plays. He costs them the same if he's on the roster or not after this season. They could absolutely be in the game for a "project", and it would be damn smart to be honest. They aren't winning that division for a couple years either way, may as well plan for the future and build it correctly.
  6. Wow. A touch surprising. That said, I really liked Darnold coming out.
  7. I think the Watson train may have sailed. That said, I have no issue with that move as well. Just please, do it right. If they have Slater or Sewell rated as a top 8 player, take them. We need a cornerstone lineman, especially if we move on from Moton next season. Draft IOL in the 2nd or 3rd...try EVERYTHING to try to move Teddy...even if it costs a future 5 to get him off the roster. Snag Minchew or Darnold and see if you can make them into something. Prepare and keep your eyes out for the next buying opportunity. For the first time that I can recall, we are seeing legit starting QB's be moved around the NFL. Back in the day, if you had a Manning, Rivers, Ben, etc...they were there forever....that's not the case any longer. Let's just fuging be prepared, and build the roster well. Hopefully the QB comes to us.
  8. Minchew, not interested in JG, would take Darnold on a flyer, but not a top 100 pick.
  9. I'm with the Panthers on that one. We can't get to two, certainly not 1...so build it correctly, go after the QB next season. We screwed up this go round.
  10. I did want to correct one thing though...someone in this thread said that the QB in Shanny's system has to be athletic, that's simply not true. Some of his best years was with Schaub, Ryan, and Cousins. I wouldn't consider any of them to be more than a decent athlete...at best. Not saying that Jones is the guy, but I bet Shanny thinks he can win with him.
  11. I'm not buying that they are taking Jones, what I'm buying is that the 9ers found out that 1 and 2 were not going to be able to be bought, so they got the next best thing...the option to pick one of the 3 of their choosing. They MAY know who that player is already, but I doubt it. They were buying the opportunity, not the player yet...me thinks. This month, they will do a deep dive and figure out which if the 3 they want to select.
  12. They are going for broke, and I don't blame them. Play in a VERY tough division right now, with all of the other 3 teams either having good or great QB play, and have a roster ready to win now. If they played it safe, the GM and HC would be out of a job in a year or two. McVey doing the exact same thing, going for broke.
  13. Said in another thread. Sam, Jimmy, Teddy, Mac....with Teddy being the leader at the moment in my mind.
  14. I keep on saying it...over and over...get ready for Mac Jones or Teddy B again next season. Sam, Jimmy, Mac, or Teddy are our probable starters at this point I think?
  15. Phins cherishing a T, or trouble with Tua?
  16. Gotta be honest, the best talent evaluators, coaches, and analysts are rarely the best players.
  17. Gonne cost 22 to keep him and 20 to cut him...if we can't move him, and he won't take a pay cut (he won't) then I'm starting to think he stays at this point. I would have preferred Grier/Allen last season and kept Teddy far far away from this team...but Hurney and what not.
  18. Same, even if it means rolling with Teddy again...which at this point I'm thinking that we may do outside of a Hail Mary shot at Wilson/Fields/Whichever Fitt and Rhule have graded higher. Giving up two 1's for anyone not named Trevor scares me pretty good.
  19. If we can't trade up, Sewell could be in the mix...or Slater.
  20. One thing that I still don't understand at the moment is why we pushed more cap space to next season. I REALLY didn't like the restructures, but I would have preferred to take out lump rather than continue to kick the can. Unless there is a trade for an established QB coming our way, I don't understand that move.
  21. I mean...we did go after Stafford and offered up a current year top 10 pick while doing so.
  22. A little confused, but mostly in the TGINM camp. I believe that Tepper is fed up with "building" a winner, and wants us to go about "buying" a winner a bit...but it could work out...or it could fail miserably. I really hope that he and Rhule can exist in the upside down power dynamic, but he's been a part of that style for a long time now. Optimistic.
